MC at Dakota War College tells me that we Dems and school teachers think money is the only route to happiness. But Rep. Lora Hubbel makes me think Republicans consider money more important to happiness than, oh, say, keeping their Minnehaha County party headquarters in Minnehaha County:
Anyone familiar with Sioux Falls geography knows that anything south of 57th Street is in Lincoln County. And that's where the Minnehaha County Repubs set up shop: 1601 E. 69th St.
Why? "We got a good deal on rent," says Rep. Lora Hubbel, the vice chair. "Basically, it was cheap" [Jonathan Ellis, "GOP HQ in Wrong County," ArgusPoliBlog, 2011.09.06].
Next up: expect the Lake County Republicans to hold their Lincoln Day Dinner at the Carthage Cabaret.
This reminds me of how the state GOP somehow couldn't find a qualified South Dakotan to run their operations and thus turned to Mr. Opportunity from Minnesota to direct the party. (How's that gig going, Tony?) Don't you Republicans understand the concept of buying locally?
I'm guessing this is going to come as a surprise to some of the commercial property owners in Minehaha county that are sitting with empty office space. Heck, some of them are probably even Republicans.
I know you are poking fun at them Cory but it's the same city in both counties. If Brookings, Aberdeen or Rapid were in two counties they also would hold an office in a city over making sure the county line was the qualificatioin.
This is the kind of stuff Ellis chooses to write about rather than talking about Noem refusing to hold town halls where the public is free to ask any question they choose or the fact that she and her husband are hoping to profit from crop insurance subsidies while they try to run an insurance company.
Ellis is a pathetic apologist for Noem and it disgusts me.
In my opinion the MDR is the only paper with reporters to ask a follow up question to Noem, Thune or Johnson.
Ellis is a fine person but he is more interested in being on the elected officials good side than on the bad side.
Who cares!
...a Republcian with affordable vacant office space in Minnehaha County might.
This may be ironic, but it affects no one.
Here's a better issue: Congress not passing a budget. Get fired up about that.
Hope it's going really well for you in Spearfish and that it leads to continued long term employment.
