I have now been to the top of all three "jewels" in the crown of "Queen City" Spearfish. First Lookout Mountain to the east last month, much closer to my front door than it was to Ezra Kind's before he wrote his last:
Then Spearfish Peak to the south a couple weekends ago:
Then Crow Peak (Paha Karitukateyapi, Lakota for "the place where the Crow were killed") to the west this morning, with a nice bike ride up Higgins Gulch and a brisk uphill trek up three miles of trail:
So I guess my stay in Spearfish really is all downhill from here. We've got our snowshoes: bring on winter!
But did you buy your season pass - the sale price is only good for 1 more day?
Season pass? For what? BHNF is still free in the winter, isn't it?
Nice shots, Cory, and a clear day to boot; great to see you getting the lay of the land.
That bowl to the north at the end of your video is filling in nicely with forbs after a lightning struck fire cleared the pine out that side of the mountain restoring it to look more like it did when the Crow were killed. If only the rest of the peak were as healthy....
Nice! I loved going up Crow Peak for a great view of the surrounding area. I was often tempted to go up and camp, but never did. Enjoy!
