Noem Dust Bill to Cost Taxpayers $10 Million

I prefer not to let my blogging be molded by party headquarters, but the South Dakota Dems notice that, in the unlikely event of its enactment, Congresswoman Kristi Noem's smokescreen anti-EPA dust bill will cost taxpayers $10 million.

But don't take Ben Nesselhuf's word for it. Ask the Congressional Budget Office, which scored Noem's silly bill Tuesday:

CBO estimates that implementing this legislation would cost $10 million over the 2012-2016 period, assuming appropriation of the necessary funds. Such funding would cover EPA's costs to carry out changes to certain existing emission control standards, and activities to study the need and feasibility of modifying EPA's national monitoring network for PM [Congressional Budget Office, cost estimate for HR 1633, 2011.12.06].

Now when I want to spend money on some government initiative, I'm a covetous socialist. But when Kristi Noem wants to spend the money fighting imaginary regulations that give her nice talking points, that's fine, right? She can burn up more money we don't have on her political smokescreens, on federal crop subsidies to keep her farm alive under the pretense of national security, on federal crop insurance to keep her husband in business, because she's Kristi Noem.

Ah, the princess mentality continues....

Looks like just another Mentality Initiated Legislative Funding queen to me.

Our darling Congresswoman is also giving the commencement speech at USD for winter graduation. I know having a college degree is not a prerequisite (see Steve Jobs, for example) but I wonder what the former Snow Queen could possibly say to inspire these college grads.

Here's my own short list. I'm guessing that there's a few out there that can add to this list.

"If you're looking for that orange glow tan, skip Cosmo and go straight to John Boehner for tanning tips and tricks"

"You need to grab your ag subsidies now before the damn Democrats put them on the table to embarrass us."

"If you think substance is more important than style you have wasted a lot of money on education. Just ask Stephanie."

Special shout out to English majors "Forget that novel you wanted to write and the teaching job that doesn't exist, the real money is in bumper stickers"

"Do you like my cowboy boots? I got them on a fundraising trip to California."

"Since I'm still interning on your dime, can any of you tell me what the best slacker classes are online?"

"If any of your profs told you that trickle down economics doesn't work, they were lying."

"I know there are no jobs out there, but if you adopt our Republican style frugality, that minimum wage part time job will get you by just fine."

"It would be good advice to shop for really cheap health insurance because I'm repealing Obamacare and you can kiss mommy and daddy's insurance good bye. On the plus side that gives you the opportunity to take on another part time minimum wage job...see I'm a job creator."

Anyone care to bet that there won't be an original thought?

My guess is she "borrows" some motivational quotes and bumper sticker quality wisdom and then strings them together putting the real meat of her speech in how she segues from one to the next. Kind of like her campaign.

    Jana--hilarious!

Noem is wasting so much time. I agree the EPA needs to back off on somethings but she should focus on something worth talking about.

    Brutal, Jana! And absolutely honest.

And Mike, as you need to remind you Republican friends, even if there are places where we need to get the EPA to back off, Noem is wasting time here on an area where the EPA has already backed off, where it said time and time again it wasn't encroaching.

I agree with you Cory. What a waste! Noem is a joke amongst a lot of Republicans in this state. Joshua Shields isn't helping her cause either.

Funny, some things about a person never change. The hair, the skin, the eyes might evolve over the years, but the smile remains eternal! Couldn't help but notice this fact with Kristi; I also took advantage of this absolute principle to identify the high-school graduation photo of a friend who's approaching age 70!

As for the dust bill and regulations, I haven't a clue as to why our elected officials worry about that stuff when half the world's economy hovers on the brink of ruin. I guess they find it easier to play little fiddles than put out big fires. I reckon they'll find it easy to lose their jobs next November, too.
