Jenna Haggar Lies to Support Anti-Drug Bill Already Guaranteed Passage

Rep. Jenna Haggar, "I"-15/Sioux Falls
Jenna Haggar, Mistress of Deception

Rep. Jenna Haggar must think she's James O'Keefe. She's got the lying down... now she just has to remember to shoot her own video and edit out the parts that show she's lying.

According to John Hult, the Sioux Falls legislator made the following statement while testifying to the House Judiciary Committee in support of SB 23, a bill banning all sorts of hallucinogenic substances:

"This is the product I was able to purchase yesterday.... One was $8, the other was $21. I was not asked to show my ID. Like I said, the samples were from the local smoke shops in Sioux Falls" [Rep. Jenna Haggar, quoted in John Hult, "Video: Incense bill OK'd Despite Video of Lawmaker's Purchase," that Sioux Falls paper, 2012.02.16].

However, Roll With It tobacco shop owner Chris Johnson rolls the video tape from his in-store camera showing Rep. Haggar's incognito shopping trip to his establishment Sunday and shows that his staff asked Rep. Haggar for ID and advised her not to consume the stuff.

Jenna, Jenna, Jenna. SB 23 was an easy bill to pass. There was only one vote against it in the whole Legislature. You didn't need to lie to win some crucial swing vote.

Alas, lying seems all too easy and excusable as a means to Jenna Haggar's ends.

She reminds me of a Kristi Noem type. Get by flirting with old men and legislators but underneath she's as calculating and out for herself as Noem.

There's no such thing as principles to these two.

So there is no penalty for outright lying during testimony?

Why doesn't the War Toilet abuse Haggar? And,why would a shop owner ask a woman who looks 50 for her id anyway?

    ooo... cold shot, Larry.

I have suggested to legislators and AG office that they go after designer drug mislabeling with penalties on the purveyors and makers rather than the buyers. That would seem to not require proving the chemical composition, etc and coming up with a new illegal pharm. list every session.

Jenna. A twit. Or did I mis-spell that?

Jenna Hagger, register as a Republican. You are not Independent. In fact, you have no independent thought at all. Be truthful to yourself, you are a Republican.

Freddie, there is no such thing as "independent" in American politics: non-partisan, maybe; the label should be abandoned.

Any candidate who becomes associated with the Independence Party very quickly loses his/her independence.

(very funny, Bob and Bill: good thing ip is above verbal hijinx like yours...)

Yes, Larry... a very good thing, indeed.

  10. Freddie J 2012.02.17

Point taken, Larry. But Haggar should show her true colors and register as a Republican, not Independent.

You guys are right: her "independence" is pretense. I hate pretense.

Curt, good question! There may be the penalty of public opinion, but I don't think legislative committee testimony is taken under oath, so I don't think there's a legal penalty. Is there anything in the House Rules about such conduct?
