As I follow the reports on the Lakota blockade of trucks carrying 115-ton oil industry treater vessels across the Pine Ridge reservation yesterday, I see that our friends from TransCanada are taking another backdoor route to win the hearts, minds, and stomachs of South Dakota officials. The South Dakota Association of County Commissioners holds its spring workshop for commissioners and welfare officials in Pierre two weeks from tomorrow.
Dusty Johnson will kick off the show at the Pierre Ramkota with an opening address. The PUC will present a program on siting pipelines. And then at 5 p.m., our county officials will be treated to a social hosted by our friends from Calgary, TransCanada Pipeline:

It's already been a bad week for the Keystone XL pipeline, but the story continues to unfold: turns out the cozy relationship between the State Department and TransCanada extends beyond the one lobbyist known to be a former campaign staffer with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Researchers at the DeSmogBlog have found that several other lobbyists for the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline have close ties to Clinton, and one is known as the "unsung hero" of Obama's successful presidential campaign."Lobbyists with strong ties to Secretary Clinton are spread out over three firms, including one that was the largest single source of funds of any corporate entity to Clinton's 2008 presidential run," DeSmogBlog Executive Director Brendan DeMelle wrote in a memo.

Steve's concerns about the relationship of the Clintons to lobbyists is appropriate.
Of course, he then has to attack all Democrats in nearly the next post.
The real problem with the PUC having anything to do with this is that we need a tough environmental protection agency in SD with real teeth and real tools that should have first analyzed this before it ever got close to the PUC.
Montana would not let Trans Canada hired surveyors in prior to environmental hearing and resulting bonding, etc.
