Lederman Lawsuit Attacks Anonymity, Perturbing Powers Policy

Last updated on 2018.06.12

Country club Senator Dan Lederman (R-16/Dakota Dunes) is using his Republican Rushmore PAC to sue whoever is behind the robocalls and other attacks on the South Dakota Republican Party's Legislative leadership.

We are bringing this lawsuit because we think that the South Dakota public deserves better than mudslinging from anonymous people involved in the election process purposely cloaking themselves from public view [Senator Dan Lederman, "Rushmore PAC Is Plaintiff in Robocall Lawsuit," SD Rushmore Political Action Committee, September 19, 2012].

Meanwhile, Lederman pal and blog employee Pat Powers hosts mudslinging by anonymous people cloaking themselves from public view in the comment section of Dakota War College. During Powers's tenure at the Secretary of State's office, he kept his blog on life support with content produced by "Bill Clay," a pseudonymous individual who has, since Powers's resignation from the Secretary of State's office and resumption of blogging by his own name, disappeared from the blogosphere.

I assume that the thrust of the Lederman lawsuit, which Powers celebrates on his blog along with the rest of the GOP Establishment's counterattack, means that Powers will shortly be implementing a new comment policy requiring all of his peanut gallery to put their names to their comments.

And Powers will soon release the identity of the BlogWatchMan and the author of Sobby Online that was taken down the day I testified on Noel Hamiel's blogger defamation legislation. Powers is only is against the anonymous he doesn't know. Typcially mindset we find in the tyrannical RINOs that is running the SDGOP.

A lawyer is like a gun: you carry one around long enough sooner or later you're going to use it.

Phat Phest planned for Chris Christie rant-in.

Daugaard is a coward if he does not publicly lead the charge against the secrecy used to cloak those who bankroll millions in the super pacs. DD, put up or shut up. And when Guv DD initiates action against the phantom phone service and the super pacs, he can harrangue the Attorney General to get up off his lazy butt and clean up the rat's nest in the Secretary of State's office.

PP, DD, Lederman and the rest really have no point of law to work with other than the lack of disclaimer on the robo-calls. Frankly, I share DD's objection to paid political statements that have no disclaimers. But, really, would he make such a stink if the disclaimer-less robocalls were being made against Democrat candidates?

    Didn't think so.

As excited as I was to see PP return to the blog I can't say it's content is worthy of a read 90% of the time. It's all press releases and most of them aren't worth reading.

SDWC is just an arm of he SDGOP Establishment that use anonymity to destroy those they view as enemies. Keloland also played the role of an arm of the SDGOP Establishment last night. They know who butters their bread...Sanford.

Sibby, tell the truth now, mon.
Is your name going to be on any of the indictments?

  8. Bill Fleming 2012.09.20

Are you going to be a witness?

  9. Charlie Hoffman 2012.09.20

Steve for you to say that KELO; which is a subsidiary of CBS, is a pawn of the SDGOP is one of the more insaner things you have ever said. I am careful to be very fair in my words concerning KELO. For he who holds the ink bottle holds true power.

If you know who these Robo-Callers are Steve could you shed some light on their names? Or are you completely in the dark?

Charlie: you defended actions against the Corps over at the War Toilet even though the state has ignored millions of cubic yards of contaminated silt to inculcate the Missouri River system.

Why should anything you say here be taken seriously?

  11. Charlie Hoffman 2012.09.20

Yes Larry , we should read what you write and memorize it and spew it forth upon the streets and the masses !!

    just reporting the future, charlie.

In the spirit of transparency, I just checked the individual donor list to Rushmore PAC. Thirty-eight people donated $200 or more to the PAC in 2011-12. Only twelve of them are from South Dakota, and I think Lederman likely may be counted more than once. Interesting. Why do these out-of-state contributors feel the need for their PAC to get involved in this SD issue? Or is it just a Lederman thing?

  15. Steve Sibson 2012.09.20

"For he who holds the ink bottle holds true power. "

Charlie, thanks for proving my point. Kelo needs Sanford's advertising revenue and the Sanford regime runs the SDGOP. There are SDGOP planks regarding public/private partnerships that also support my premise Charlie. I tried to fix that during the convention's platform committee, but lobbyists like Joel Arends would not have it. It was about protecting their corrupted system. Now they are going after the whistle blowers.

Dave, it is OK for the SDGOP Establishment to use out-of-state interests, but not the citizens of South Dakota. There are two sets of rules, if not they have the legislature change it so that there are two sets of rules. In ethics the liberals call it moral relativism.

Charlie – Bless your soul, but the quote you’ve attempted is actually, “Never get into an argument with a man who buys his ink by the barrel.” Newspaper legend (and elderly racist) H.L. Menken is the source. I went back to check I did not misquote him, and found some other gems (of many) on politics and American quirkiness:

“Democracy is the art and science of running the circus from the monkey cage.”

“Giving every man a vote has no more made men wise and free than Christianity has made them good.”

“We must respect the other fellow's religion, but only in the sense and to the extent that we respect his theory that his wife is beautiful and his children smart.”

I thought of Kristi Noem’s and Boehner’s caucus with this one: “Suppose two-thirds of the members of the national House of Representatives were dumped into the Washington garbage incinerator tomorrow, what would we lose to offset our gain of their salaries and the salaries of their parasites?”

And I know how Steve hates to be left out: “A cynic is a man who, when he smells flowers, looks around for a coffin.” [I kid because I love! :-o ]

    I kid because I love!

That one is from Todd Epp

  19. Dougal 2012.09.20

    Just sayin'.

  20. Bill Fleming 2012.09.20

(....remind me to always be very polite to Dougal, Cory. LOL)

  21. Charlie Hoffman 2012.09.20

Dougal I know and it would have been OK had we been talking about a Newspaper; but this was cornering a television station so generalities were used in making a statement. Sibby and his crew must really hate everyone who thinks differently then they do. No dialogue, no friendly discussion, no objective reasoning whatsoever.

"" How is it that every father-in-law has the dumbest son-in-law who somehow sires the smartest grandkids on the planet?""

((Flemdog-I get your message and I'm working on being very civil~~:)

  22. Steve Sibson 2012.09.20

Charlie, Pat Powers provided the tip that the media was in bed with the SDGOP Establishment on this issue early on yesterday. You need to set down the Kool Aid. Keloland even promoted the budget lie put on by Daugaard in 2011 to justify cutting the graduate subsidy to veterans. Don't tell me Keloland came up with that half-truth at best propaganda on their own.

  23. Charlie Hoffman 2012.09.20

Steve lets compare notes from facts sometime; your place or mine buddy.
This Anti-Veteran crap is really getting old!!!

  24. Justin 2012.09.20

Boy that attempt at civility lasted a long time before issuing another veiled threat at physical violence.

I don't see any reason you can't present facts to dispute Steve's claim right here.

  25. Jana 2012.09.20

Charlie, at least they haven't jumped on John Thune's vote against the Veterans Jobs Corps Act...that up until this week had bipartisan support, even being written by several GOP Senators.

  26. Steve Sibson 2012.09.20

Yeah Charlie, why not here. How much was the graduate subsidy, and what was the actual spending in 2012 versus 2011? And 2010?

  27. caheidelberger Post author | 2012.09.20

Dave, where'd you find that donors list for Rushmore PAC?

  28. mike 2012.09.20

Notice how Sibby ignores Hoffman's question about who is behind these attacks...

  29. mike 2012.09.20

Jana, After looking at those numbers I laughed when I saw $5,000 to King and $500 to Noem. Not to mention Lederman just invited Rounds to his LDD and Noem wasn't there to speak.

That is incredible to see Lederman dropping the money outside of SD.
