The South Dakota House GOP leadership kicked Rep. Stace Nelson (R-19/Fulton) and Rep. Lance Russell (R-30/Hot Springs) out of their caucus last session. Nelson incurred their wrath for making Secretary of Agriculture Walt Bones look ignorant and for challenging ethical missteps by the leadership. Russell got booted purportedly for not attending meetings enough, but he also backed Nelson's ethics charge.
Apparently the GOP leadership wants to at least create the appearance of kissing and making up. House Majority Leader Rep. David Lust (R-34/Rapid City) has sent Nelson and Russell letters inviting them to attend the party caucus in Pierre Saturday.
All parties are keeping quiet... sort of... per Lust's request that the letter contents be kept confidential. But surely they'll have a few words about Rep. Russell's continuing charges that Lust and the leadership play all sorts of inappropriate and petty power games. And Rep. Nelson shows no signs of puckering up:
“There was no reconciliation,” Nelson said of the letter from Lust. “There was some things he put in the letter that were inappropriate, that did not do anything to further matters” [David Montgomery, "Old GOP Flare-Up in House Eases Up," that Sioux Falls paper, 2012.11.14].
Oh, to be at caucus tomorrow. Play nicely, kids!
Did Russell break the law again by violating the terms of his censure?

Russell's district is on the Hate Map for children raped as brides of old white men. Where is AG Jackley anyway?

Where is Brendan Johnson on Jackley's failures?
Larry, you should probably be a little more worried about the child abuse going on in your own backyard.
My backyard is the Santa Domingo Pueblo: a sovereign nation. I'll petition the White House.
Interesting. I have family in Santa Fe. Fine, then replace "in your own backyard" with "on the Reservations in South Dakota."
Counties in a 51st State carved from the occupied Great Sioux Nation and Turtle Island: Hoka Hey!
Remember when Stace Nelson said he is Pro-life®? He's lying:

And this is what I get on PP's establishment site:

Yes Bill. You meet with Republicans – and a member of House Republican leadership tells me I should listen to you. Do gems of wisdom fall from your lips? Why does a Republican in leadership in a very conservative district want me to listen to a political activist whose Political Compass shows he leans strongly to the left? What are you exactly – moderate Anarcho-Socialist? Lol. And I have to listen to Troy’s asinine nonsense about there being no such thing as a RINO. Does the “big tent” Republican Party cover Anarcho-Socialism? Do we cast our nets that far? And you guys pick a master of radical political theory from my home state to run in my district. All of the Establishment puts their weight behind this reformist – I find that a horrifying development in the SD Republican Party. According to my Political Compass you could consider me socially moderate and not an overly strong fiscal conservative – and I’m disgusted with the direction of our party. Something must change. Republican leadership should not be listening to words of wisdom from Anarcho-Socialists who like to call themselves “moderate” and “pro-life” when clearly they are not.
I have a feeling its not going to go through LOL.
There ya have it, BS: delete your cookies, restart your computer and try again. Vary your name a little in the appropriate box.
Yeah, don't you hate that when you get 'moderated' over there, Bree? Not to worry. Happens to the best of us.
use the word, "homosexual" somewhere and watch Bob Ellis show up, too.
Ha Ha Larry you must be used to "moderation" from PP. I have a feeling he would lean strongly Authoritarian on the Political Compass.
PP doesn't have a pot or a window: poor schmuck is up to his areolae.
'I have a feeling he would lean strongly Authoritarian on the Political Compass.'
LOL. Ya think?
Bill don't pretend like you get moderated on PP's site. I'm not that dumb.
Sure I do. I've kinda learned the ropes there though, so it doesn't happen as often as it used to. BTW, you're not dumb, obviously. Just a little paranoid sometimes.
I will say on PP's behalf though, that I got bumped a lot more on Mt. Blogmore than I ever did on the War College.
Well, I'm glad you haven't wormed your way in everywhere Bill. Makes me feel a little better about the Republican Establishment in SD. Maybe they're not vetting their picks. Maybe. Nothing against you personally, but I detest Socialism as an economic model - I consider it a complete failure historically. Democrats need to start running some Blue Dogs in conservative districts. The balance of power in the legislature is unacceptable. Things would run better with a little competition.
President Jefferson was a flaming Liberal, BS; Hamilton was the whack job fascist: the rest should have been herstory.
Ha! Funny. The times I got bumped on Blogmore had nothing to do with my political disposition, Bree. It has to do with their being a PG-rated blog, and some of the things I wrote were a little too spicy for their editors. We all had to watch our language over there. It was a language thing and a civility thing. They try not to let people get too mean. I'm okay with that, actually.
Jefferson was for limited government and local control Larry. Hamilton was a federalist, I wouldn't consider him a fascist. And if women ran the world the U.N. would get redecorated attractively. Otherwise everything else would be the same.
Bree, I will take your words that "if women ran the world the U.N. would get redecorated attractively" as further proof of the GOP's total lack of respect for women ;-)
PUC caving to utilities as rate increases sweep South Dakota: you saps.
