Returning Favor, Old Pal Huckabee Endorses Rounds for Senate

Last updated on 2013.07.16

Fox News commentator Mike Huckabee urges South Dakotans to step up to the Mike in the 2014 Senate race:

My long time friend, Mike Rounds, is exactly what we need in the United States Senate.... His experience as governor of the great state of South Dakota, dedication to tackling the federal debt, strengthening and honoring our military, border security, as well as his strong support of faith, family, life and freedom – makes my endorsement a great pleasure. We live in crucial days for our nation. America needs men with the rock solid values and problem-solving common sense of Mike Rounds. I’m proud to call him a friend. I ask my friends in South Dakota and around the nation to rally behind Mike [Mike Huckabee, endorsement of Rounds for Senate, 2013.05.03].

The endorsement is unsurprising: Rounds signed on early to Huckabee's 2008 presidential campaign and was Huckabee's national steering committee chairman. One can argue Huckabee is just scratching Rounds's back back (I invite creative readers to find a way to express that idea without putting back and back back to back). But the fact that Rounds and Huckabee are pals in the first place gives Rounds some ammo in his fight against the conservative insurgents who say Rounds is not Norquist or Dobson or Birch enough to be a true Republican.

Of course, our conservative friends will recycle their hyperbole (oops! already done!) that when it comes to taking government money and raising taxes, Huckabee, like Rounds, smells kind of liberal. (Huckabee also talks like a Marxist.)

a way to express that idea without putting back and back back to back---
"reciprocating scratch backs"? "returning scratch backs"?

They are fondling each other's hidden agendas.

You mean each other's wicks, Barry?

But will it offset Ted Nugent's pending endorsement of Kristi Noem in the primary?

Rounds "steered" Hubcappee's 2008 Presidential run into the ditch, and Huckbabee wants to return the favor.

Those two are cut from the same cloth. Both using state planes for personal trips. Both reveling in the posh nature of governor's mansions (Rounds building a new one, Huckabee stealing the furniture donated to the existing one).

They are different in one category though. Rounds filled SD prisons with nonviolent offenders, but Huckabee emptied his prisons of violent offenders (pardoning or commuting sentences for over 1,000 criminals including 12 murderers - one of whom then murdered and raped 2 women, and another one of whom later killed 4 police officers).

I posted some place today that Huckabee's endorsement of Rounds is just one more reason that I won't vote for Rounds.

Ted Nugent is going to do what to Kristi Noem?
    Pending endorsement?

It sounds like the same old position with less gratification.

I can see now where I misconstrued what was going on. Never mind.

I wonder who G. Gordon Liddy and Oliver North will endorse?

I appreciate that, Joan! Now, will that endorsement have that effect on anyone thinking about voting for Rounds in the primary?

Liddy and North take Door #2. 70% chance Stace Nelson offers that door.
