Hildebrand: Low Unemployment, High Free/Reduced Lunch… Wages Too Low!

What's more newsworthy than Republican U.S. Senate candidate Annette Bosworth's attempt to portray Democratic campaign mastermind and possible Sioux Falls mayoral candidate Steven Hildebrand as a faithless filthy capitalist? Hildebrand's one-line assessment of the greatest flaw in Sioux Falls' economy... and perhaps South Dakota's:

When a community has 3% unemployment and yet 1/2 of all school kids qualify for free or reduced lunches, it means wages are too low [Steven Hildebrand, Facebook post, 2013.11.08].

In 2011, the most recent full data I have casually handy, 95.2% of South Dakota's workers had jobs. 41% of kids needed help paying for their lunch.

Good question, Steve: If darn near everyone is working, why does anyone need a subsidy for his or her kids' lunches?

Excellent point Steve. Bosworth better not say too much. She has her own problems coming down the pipeline

Following that same line of thinking, the SNAP program, nationally, would not have near the use, that it has, if the legislature had passed a meaningful jobs bill four or so years ago, rather than refusing to so that they would forestall any recovery from the 2008 collapse of the economy, so that the President would not be reelected in 2012. In addition, if those same folks had jobs and meaningful employment, they would have been and would be paying taxes and the deficit would not be so out of control, that we may never recover. This stuff ain't rocket science folks if this high school graduate can figure it out, so what is wrong with our politicians?

If we cut employment so maybe 10% were unemployed, then took the 7% newly unemployed people's old money and gave it to the still employed part of the group with their kids getting subsidies, then we'd only have 10% of kids getting subsidies.

    Problem solved, the libbie way.

Hey grudznick, What are you doing over here on Madville? Can't find anything out about EB-5, or the uranium deal, or the Bosworth raffle scandal over on War College?
