Lowe Campaigns in Sioux Falls, Shows Obama and Clinton in Photo Album

Last updated on 2013.12.10

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Joe Lowe reports an enjoyable Saturday evening with a few dozen enthusiastic Democrats in Sioux Falls. Speeches were made, huzzahs were huzzahed, and checks were written. Yum!

Pictures like these may inspire even more Democrats to write some checks:

Joe Lowe talks fire prevention with then-Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton in 2008

Joe Lowe talks Native American policy with then-Presidential candidate Barack Obama in Rapid City in 2008.

Lowe says candidate Obama gave him 15 minutes on that fine spring afternoon in Rapid City to talk about Native American issues. Lowe obviously isn't afraid to grill the famous and powerful on important South Dakota issues. He's also clearly not afraid to stand next to top Democrats.

Cue the Republican attack machine in four... three... two....

Preditcable Update 2013.12.10 08:22 CST: Dakota War College goes ape over these photos... and borrows the entire Obama photo and my text without seeking permission... the sort of action DWC has previously labeled plagiarism.

Never in state history have Republicans put themselves in such a position of leading their election ticket with such a collection of crooked, incompetent and/or lazy candidates! Gant/Krebs Part Deux, Rounds, NOem and Rounds/Daugaard Part Deux. What a team!

"Hillary, if you wear this hat paid for with SD taxpayer dollars you won't ignite at the stake."

"Barack, you want to order the Smoke Jumper Stout at the Firehouse, not the wimpy Rubia Creamosa."

  3. Jerry 2013.12.09

Wow! This feller may have a go of clearing the deadwood out of corrupt South Dakota politics. No wonder new republicans are wetting their pants. Geesh, when voters figure out how they have been fleeced by this bunch of freeloaders, they might just throw them out.

  4. Oldguy 2013.12.09

He even looks like a Governor!!!!!!

  5. Roger Cornelius 2013.12.09

    grudz,

Please provide us with a receipt of how Hillary's hat was paid for with SD taxpayer dollars.

When are you going to understand grudz, when taxes are paid into the federal government, they are no longer your taxpayer dollars, they are the goverments. All that is left for you to do about it is WHINE!

  6. Lora 2013.12.09

Please vet this guy...he used to be a Republican I am told

  7. interested party 2013.12.09

Lora used to be sane, i'm told.

  8. grudznick 2013.12.09

Mr. Cornelius. I appreciate and understand your whining, but look at that hat that Mr. Lowe handed Hillary as a gift. Then call the Legislatures and ask them for all the receipts that Mr. Lowe spent on things like hats during that time period.

You may want me to do that for you but I will not. Take your whining to the legislatures and demand an open and transparent government. Maybe this Mr. Lowe fellow isn't so transparent after all. I don't know, I haven't asked. You'll need to.

  9. grudznick 2013.12.09

As did you and I, Larry. As did you and I.

  10. Roger Cornelius 2013.12.09

    grudz,

I will not do your research for you, you made the claim about Hillary's hat being paid for by SD taxpayer dollars, now back it with proof.

    If you can't, I'll understand!

This state Republican Party has squandered and or stolen millions of dollars in taxpayer money and grudz is whining about the cost of a hat.

  11. grudznick 2013.12.09

You entertain me, Mr. Cornelius. You may continue.

    *Grudz waves his scepter magnanimously*

  13. Roger Cornelius 2013.12.09

    Continue grudz?

I'm waiting for the back up yours words with proof!!

    You can't, huh?

    Your turn grudz.

  14. Robert Klein 2013.12.09

Senator Obama spends 15 minutes talking Indian policy with a white guy? When he has access to thousands of Native Americans? This doesn't smell quite right.

  15. Roger Cornelius 2013.12.09

Smells okay to me. If Mr. Lowe can advocate for Native Americans with the future President, more power to him and thank you Mr. Lowe.

  16. grudznick 2013.12.09

Lowe wasn't advocating for American Indians. He was asking for money and trying to get a free lunch at the Firehouse Brewing Company on the government dime.

*"*""When are you going to understand grudz, when taxes are paid into the federal government, they are no longer your taxpayer dollars, they are the goverments. .
Kinda like giving to them big TV evangelists Roger. Wonder if God ever gets mad about all those fancy hairdo's and diamond rings and whines, just a little?
    .
Joe better figure out what he is going to say before he's on camera, impromptu he aint.

  18. Roger Cornelius 2013.12.09

How do you know that grudz?

  19. Roger Cornelius 2013.12.09

    grudz,

    Where's that receipt?

  20. Kevin Weiland 2013.12.09

Lora, Joe Lowe is the real deal. I have known him for 14 years, I understand why he came to South Dakota as a Republican and I have seen him evolve as he saw, first hand, the pitfalls of this one party state.

  21. caheidelberger Post author | 2013.12.10

Oldguy, what makes a guy look like a governor?

  22. caheidelberger Post author | 2013.12.10

Lora, I defer to Kevin on Joe's real-dealishness. But hey, if he needed vetting, shouldn't you be happy to see a former Republican infiltrating our ranks to wreak chaos upon us? ;-)

Robert, consider it from this angle: a white guy gets 15 minutes to talk to Barack Obama, and the white guy chooses to talk about Native American issues. Might that speak well of the white guy?

  23. Robert Klein 2013.12.10

Could be, CAH. Call me skeptical. He could have been talking about da Bears! Who's gonna know?

  24. caheidelberger Post author | 2013.12.10

I welcome skepticism from all corners. I'm sure Lowe will tell us more about that conversation on the campaign trail. (And dang, I suppose talking about the Bears might win him more votes than talking about the Indians... ;-) )

  25. Roger Cornelius 2013.12.10

    Les,

Discussing the disappearance of anywhere between $60-$100 million in missing GOED/EB-5 funds can hardly be considered whining.

grudz complaining about who and how paid for a gift to Hillary is whining. The two are not comparable.
