Annette Bosworth, Permanently Closed

...says unquestionable authority Google Maps.

There's an odd kerfuffle going on with the fake Senate campaign of Annette Bosworth. Team Bosworth and her mouthpieces claim that I have somehow tied the names of various political figures and her own son to my Lake Herman address. A Saturday press release paid for by the Bosworth Senate campaign alleges that I have thus stolen a minor child's identity and committed mail fraud.

These allegations are false and defamatory. I have e-mailed the Bosworth campaign and requested a formal retraction and an apology from Bosworth personally. Bosworth has not responded.

But if we're going to play this game (yes, we're giving in, walking into the trap Chad and Annette like to set, talking about anything other than the fake campaign, the petition fraud, the direct-mail scam, the raffle scam, the unpaid employees, the violation of non-profit and campaign finance laws), then let's play.

Go to Sioux Falls on Google Maps. Punch in "Annette Bosworth." What comes up this morning?

"Annette Bosworth... Permanently closed."

Boy, if only that were true. But you just can't believe everything you read on the Web, can you?

Mr. H, I enjoy your infatuation with the pretty young Dr. as much as the next man, but googling on her seems to have become in obsession.

As I was composing a reply to this post and thinking about the GOP primary, which I can't vote in because I'm a registered independent, I'm more convinced that we need to do away with parties and have one primary where everyone's name is in the same hat. The top two move on to the general. I guess this is mostly out of frustration that Bosworth has made the Senate race a joke and that Rounds will win the primary, but neither of them has answered for their past "transgressions". I know that nobody is going to question Rounds on EB-5. I know that the National wing of the Democratic party isn't going to bring it up (and it should be an issue because it is a valid concern), I doubt the state wing will bring it up, and the local media won't bring it up.

It's frustrating to this independent that when the general election rolls around, that yet again, I will be forced to choose between the lesser of two evils and the person I felt was the best for the job lost the primary to someone who shouldn't be on the ballot because their own party refuses to acknowledge the 800 pound gorilla in the room (such as EB-5 or selling raffle tickets and then not having the actual raffle or not paying your employees).

Ms. Kathy, you should register as an (R) for the primary and vote Mr. Rhoden. He has your best interests at heart. You can un-register afterwards.

I'm concerned that this could get ugly for you Cory. The Bos/Haber Gang have no morals, and wallow in the politics of lies and distortion. If they perceive that their cash cows are in danger, and apparently they do, I don't see a limit on what they might do.

Cory, as you continue to become better and better, and more influential, attacks from the right may escalate. In the GWB years we saw an effective example of the politics of destroying the truth-teller.

Examples are Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill and Terrorism guy Richard E. White. Both of them exposed Cheney/Bush lies leading toward his "perpetual war," and were personally attacked. While they have survived and are doing well enough, it got awfully ugly.

Not that you, Cory, will have the Big Republican Dogs sicced on you. But I don't think any of us should be too quick to brush off the B/H Gang as limited only to total lunacy. I think there is a very wide streak of cruelty there too.

Just sayin, be careful out there.

The man has no shame. "The integrity of our elections." What an amazing statement.

  6. Roger Cornelius 2014.04.07

    Deb,
I share your concern for Cory. Richard Benda was likely a victim of vicious Republican Party retaliation. The difference is that Cory is not an employee of the government and under their control. I have witnessed a lot of local and national elections and when candidates start attacking the press, it generally backfires and makes them appear petty. Along with the attacks on the press, it opens a candidate to more scrutiny.

Cory has had a tough week with losing the Bosworth petition battle and now having the state attorney general telling him to piss off.

There are a couple things that need to be kept in mind, this is Republican South Dakota, did anybody seriously think that Gant and Jackley would act against a fellow Republican? Of course not, this is part of the continued corruption in our state that Cory talks about and why numerous sources constantly rate South Dakota in the top ten states for crony capitalistic corruption.

While the Bosworth camp rejoices in their apparent "victory", you have to ask yourself if it really is a victory or a continued opportunity for Bosworth/Haber to fleece ignorant donors. If they continue to give, it is their own fault, Cory forewarned them.

It is also likely that more people are googling Bosworth and finding the truth for themselves, there are so many red flags after her name that only a blatant idiot would vote for her. As much as I abhor Republican politics in this state, I don't think there are that many that are that dumb.
Bosworth and company may have won a couple of battles, but she will lose the war and it won't be entirely Cory's fault when she loses, it will be her own.

  7. grudznick 2014.04.07

It won't be Mr. H's fault at all. His obsessions with the young Dr. will, if anything, increase the number of people who vote for her.

She'll still lose and lose huger than ever seen except for Mr. Nelson who will lose even huger.

  8. Lynn G. 2014.04.07

Roger and Deb I agree. The Bosworth campaign will simply dig themselves deeper and deeper the longer they are allowed to continue their various schemes. That white over worn and over played doctor coat may eventually be replaced with an orange jumpsuit. Actually maybe a few orange jumpsuits. It's just a matter of time.

There are bigger fish to fry.

  9. Roger Cornelius 2014.04.07

Come on grudz, you know better than that

South Dakota has a plethora of laws which purport to protect the integrity of public business, but they either provide no way to enforce them or give state officials the discretion to enforce them or not, as demonstrated by one of the statutes regarding the duties of the attorney general: (2) When requested by the Governor or either branch of the Legislature, or whenever in his judgment the welfare of the state demands, to appear for the state and prosecute or defend, in any court or before any officer, any cause or matter, civil or criminal, in which the state may be a party or interested.

If a citizen files a complaint alleging wrong doing in some process, the AG has the power to investigate and take action.

This shielding of Bosworth from scrutiny and having to answer for any of her strange activities is part of the South Dakota GOP’s enforcement of what has become its fundamental purpose: to establish and protect the right to be corrupt.

On a professional level, Bosworth has had a history of reprimands and hearings with the Medical Board, including accusations against its members of the same nature she has made against Cory. She was ordered to seek psychiatric guidance. Her nonpayment of money owed medical staff members is a matter of record. And then her many scams with raffles and other political enterprises, including the way her nominating petitions were handled, will be ignored and dismissed because she falls under the protection of the right-to-be-corrupt rules of the state GOP.

This all fits in with the bilking of taxpayers for the Northern Beef Packers scheme, the bilking of EB-5 investors, who will not get their visa or any return on their money, because they don’t qualify as humans under the GOP definitions. But most South Dakotans will never face the fact of what kind of place their state has become

The response you got was typical Bosworth/Haber. I used to think Bosworth was a smart, compassionate and honest doctor who just wanted to help people, and who would always treat people well. I no longer think any of that anymore. Too many unpaid employees leaving for ethical reasons. Too many venders not being paid. Too many scams (raffles anyone?) They aren't a good Christian couple trying to do Gods will, but are con artists using religion to get people to trust them so they can exploit them later. Sad that anyone buys into that.

Hey, Kathy! Don't forget: in the general, you'll have at least three evils to choose from, as Pressler will also be on the Senate ballot.

  13. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.04.08

Deb, I appreciate your concern. I now face a candidate who believes the best use of her thousands of campaign dollars is to attack me personally. I could well face worse. Am I naïve to believe that truth will win out and that such attacks will harm the attacker more than they will harm me?

  14. mike from iowa 2014.04.08

If the state is aware of criminal activities and does nothing about it,they are in a conspiracy of silence with the evil doers. If the public knows and refuses to act accordingly, they become silent conspirators,as well. Someone who has national connections needs to get this sordid non-sense going viral. It is well known you can't shame rethuglicans, but maybe ordinary people will find the heart necessary to throw the bums out. It has been my experience that Libs have the decency to get elected BEFORE they become crooked. Wingnuts-not so much.

  15. student 2014.04.08

Recently, at the university I am at there was a cheating scandal. Not only were the cheaters thrown out of the program but the students who knew about it and remained quiet as well. Complacency is creating the social norm of dishonesty.

  16. Bree S. 2014.04.08

Good idea Mike. I wonder if the national press would be interested in Jackley announcing his candidacy and Rushmore PAC announcing a Rounds fundraiser for Jackley the same afternoon as the Bosworth nondecision.

  17. mike from iowa 2014.04.08

Bree S. I'm guessing MSNBC would be interested. Mainstream Media might not for fear of being labeled liberal.

  18. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.04.08

Bree, I agree the Arends-PAC-Jackley-Bosworth circle deserves to be drawn. MSNBC would enjoy that story. The Daily Show would have even more fun with it.

  19. Deb Geelsdottir 2014.04.08

Are you "naïve" Cory? Perhaps a little, but so am I. For me I label it idealism. I can't help it.

You aren't running for anything so you don't have that concern. My worry is that Bos/Hab lack morals. I think they'll say anything, do anything, including the most outrageous attacks they can imagine. We've already seen how blatantly they have lied about employees. How personally and viciously will they attack you? I don't see any limits that the ordinary person would feel.
