Howie and Heidelberger Talk EB-5

Speaking of EB-5, Gordon Howie gave me the chance to offer a primer on the EB-5 scandal on his Internet-TV program last week.

Voters, there you have the basics of why EB-5 matters in this election.

    And there you have it!!!

  2. Roger Cornelius 2014.04.28

I've always believed in less is more, Cory just did that with a clear and concise presentation.

There are a few candidates out there that could take a lesson from him.

  3. Lanny V Stricherz 2014.04.28

Wow, all I can say is Wow, Cory. I wonder if you can shorten that up even more, and we can then see how many folks who were willing to chip in to challenge Dr Bosworth's petitions, (by the way was there a lot of extra expense in that, that you have not told us about) would now be willing to chip in for a paid commercial by you on the subject of EB-5?

  4. Lanny V Stricherz 2014.04.28

I should have said that I am sure that Lawrence and Shiller would give us a heckuva deal on it. LOL.

Lanny, I assume an ad buy is out of the reach of our readers here, and I'm not inclined to enrich the corporate media with our efforts. But let's look at it this way: the video is out there. Gordon has shared it on YouTube. Any interested Senate challenger (and every Senate challenger should be interested) could check with Gordon on licensing issues and incorporate key passages in an ad.

And while we wait for someone with deep pockets for an ad buy, we can forward that video to all of our friends on Facebook. Spread the word!

  6. Lanny V Stricherz 2014.04.28

Now that is what I call thinking outside the box, Cory. You did not answer my other question though. Did you have added expense from you challenge of Dr Bosworth's petitions?

  7. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.04.28

(Oh, yeah! Sorry about that omission, Lanny. The only real major expense for the petition challenge was acquiring copies of petition sheets from the Secretary of State, who for some reason charges a dollar per copy instead of simply posting the petitions online, just like campaign finance documents, for all citizens to see and review for free. The people-hours put into the project may have been in the hundreds, but they were all unpaid volunteer hours. I'm confident the dollar figure required for a mainstream TV ad would be much higher than the dollar figure associated with the petition challenge... contrary to the absurd charges from Annette Bosworth that the effort must have been bankrolled by the "entrenched powers". ;-) )

Well put it this way Mr Kurtz, If there isn't there should be and the first requisite should be to put your freaking party hat behind you and be an American first. These clowns represent everybody in the world but our country. And they represent the other people in the world in a way that kills them. How's that democracy thing working out for Iraq? Libya? Egypt? Croatia? Bosnia?

  9. Roger Cornelius 2014.04.28

    Cory,

Don't you think Daugaard should have been mentioned in those who profited from EB-5?

Daugaard reportedly has a $2 million campaign war chest, I'd like to know who his contributors are.

Bob Ellis invokes the frog and the scorpion about now, Mr. Stricherz.

  11. grudznick 2014.04.28

I don't understand what the young Dr. Bos had to do with EB5ing.

Mr. Cornelius, I think people have posted links to Gov. Daugaard's donor lists before and will again whenever these sort of lists are added to.

larry, would you tell us about frog again? I like the way you tell it better.

Roger, Jonathan Ellis's report yesterday about the letter Daugaard wrote to promote Bollen's attempt to get EB-5 money for the already completed Iberdrola Buffalo Ridge II wind farm shows Daugaard was involved, but it does not show that Daugaard benefited from the program the way Bollen, Benda, Sveen, and likely Rounds did. Remember, Daugaard was the one to cancel the SDRC Inc. contract. It is possible that Daugaard was not actively corrupt on EB-5, just inattentive (which is still a real problem).

Toot toot! A quick review of Gordon's Liberty Today shows that at the moment, his interview with me on EB-5 is the most-viewed video he's posted this month.

  14. grudznick 2014.04.28

That is a good thing, Mr. H. I bet you are smashing the movies Mr. Howie made with Mr. Verchio. You are a more animated fellow and probably draw more eyeballs.

  15. Disgusted Dakotan 2014.04.28

It is good to see the Left and Right cooperating to fight the corruption of the political opportunists of the moderate middle of the GOP.

  16. grudznick 2014.04.28

You want to hunt elephants, DD, you have go to where the elephants live. Right der in da middle of the GOP.

  17. Bree S. 2014.04.28

You mean RINOs, Grudz. The middle of the elephant herd is all RINOs. You'll only find elephants on the "fringe" of the herd, alas.

  18. Lanny V Stricherz 2014.04.28

Great post grudz, I am still laughing.

  19. Lanny V Stricherz 2014.04.28

Cory, I love the EB-5 part I. I think he is probably serious about having you back to talk more about it. I sent the link to over 70 people and one already commented back, that he was not aware that your blog exists and that he too is pretty upset about EB-5. I had another one respond, and he could do it, that if you get 20 people to put in 500 bucks each, you should be able to buy some TV time for a 20 minute session on EB-5. He said that he would kick in 500.

  20. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.04.28

Lanny: really? Willing donors? Wow! You have the right friends! So let's talk turkey with them. If they think this issue matters, and if they think material like what Gordon provides in the above video would help voters understand the issue and would influence them to vote appropriately, then get me a firm number on TV time cost, help me find some donors, and let's buy a segment at 6:30 Central, right after the KELO news. (Does that price your friend has in mind apply to KELO time, or is that just KDLT time?)

  21. Deb Geelsdottir 2014.04.28

Very well done Cory. My offer of cash assistance still stands, $50. Perhaps more later.

  22. Lanny V Stricherz 2014.04.29

My friend is not willing to say which station, he was not sure, so you will need to check on the prices, unless you want me to do it. I am so about derailing Rounds Daugaard, that I will pledge the second 500 even though I cannot afford it, if you can line up the rest of the money through the blog.

  23. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.04.29

Heck, Lanny -- I guess I have some phone calls to make. Keep looking for rich friends; I'll contact the TV stations (worth checking with the Rapid City market?). I'll also try to get all those "entrenched powers" to send me another million or two. ;-)

  24. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.04.29

Deb, thank you for your offer, too! But let's remember: Heidepriem bought big 30-minute blocks for his political ads in 2010, and that didn't help him beat Daugaard. Would we get out money's worth from buying a one-off TV ad, or can we use any resources more efficiently to promote the message online... and perhaps on radio and in the newspapers?

  25. Hubba 2014.04.29

Are we now looking for donors for a big project to benefit South Dakota?
That smells kind of EB-5y to me!

  26. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.04.29

One big difference, Hubba: I won't be collecting a $50K commission.

  27. Deb Geelsdottir 2014.04.29

Can I collect a $50 mil commission then?

  28. Deb Geelsdottir 2014.04.29

We w-i-l-l have $50 mil to spare, right?

  29. Deb Geelsdottir 2014.04.29

We w-i-l-l have $50 mil to spare, right?

  30. Deb Geelsdottir 2014.04.29

Oh damn. $50 thousand, not $50 million. Well then, I'm not interested.
