Robinson Volunteer Releases Kerry Endorsement… Doesn’t Actually Quote Kerrey

Update 14:28 CDT: Oops. Looks like I got tricked by someone speaking out of turn. The press release that got this post started came from one Kathy Scott, who has told me in earlier communications that she worked for Dakotafest. Scott tells me in the comment section that she doesn't actually work for the Robinson campaign; she has simply donated money and volunteered. So I was incorrect when I said the press release came from the Robinson campaign itself. I apologize to all who were misled by the original headline and text. I have changed the headline to reflect this new information; I preserve the text below so all may understand what the fuss was about... and to remind campaigns to make sure their staff and volunteers understand what information is ready for prime time.

Original Post: A press release from Corinna Robinson's House campaign comes circuitously to my inbox. Former Nebraska Governor and Senator Bob Kerrey says send Robinson to Washington:

Brookings, SD (May 7, 2014) -- Former Presidential Candidate and U.S. Senator Bob Kerry announced today his endorsement of South Dakota Congressional Candidate U.S. Army Maj. Corinna Robinson, (ret). Kerry went into politics after retiring from military service. Like Kerry, Robinson spent 25 years in military service and plans to return to public service if the voters of South Dakota allow her. She is currently a favorite among veterans who have felt overlooked by the current administration’s lack of movement with stalled benefits and a backlog of claims.

Kerry is a former member of the elite Navy SEAL Team, a highly decorated Vietnam veteran who earned the Congressional Medal of Honor – America’s highest military honor. Kerry’s political career includes Governor of Kansas and U.S. Senator.

“In the months ahead, I look forward to speaking with many of my supporters who can assist with my campaign agenda that includes better education, growth in our business infrastructure and a way to strengthen our families,” says Robinson.

As Governor of Nebraska, Kerry focused on fiscal responsibility and worked to increase education and job skills. Robinson has championed the need to bring more technology companies into the state. She also wonders why the Keystone XL Pipeline has gained more attention than rural connectivity, connections that would have a lasting effect on the education of South Dakota’s youth.

Robinson has also been endorsed by South Dakota Senator Tim Johnson and former Congresswoman Stephanie Herseth Sandlin. To learn more about Corinna Robinson or to donate visit onto CorinnaforSD.com. To volunteer or speak to media relations, contact Leslie Wimes at (561) 200-0580 [Corinna Robinson campaign, press release, 2014.05.07].

I am pleased to see that Robinson takes another shot at the Keystone XL pipeline, noting that we could be investing our resources in much safer and more beneficial ways (when's the last time you heard of rural broadband exploding or polluting an aquifer?).

But let me play Pat Powers and write the impending snark for him:

  1. The press release spells Bob Kerrey's name wrong.
  2. The release fails to offer any direct quote from Kerrey telling us why he supports Robinson.
  3. The release is dated May 7. It didn't hit my inbox until May 14. And if it hit anyone else's inbox, it didn't get their attention enough to print (which might have something to do with not having a direct quote from Kerrey).
  4. The person in charge of media relations, Leslie Wimes, is in Florida. I like to believe that, with a phone, a computer, and good signal, you can manage just about any modern operation from anywhere (see also the Bosworth petition challenge), but this Florida organizer is a new addition to the campaign, so we can expect a Powers post about outsiders and staff churn in the Robinson office.
  5. The release criticizes the "current administration" for its "lack of movement with stalled benefits and a backlog of claims." Wait a minute: is Robinson running against Kristi Noem or Barack Obama? "Administration" means the Executive Branch, not the obstructionist poser in Congress. Pat will like that line, but I don't. Let's focus the message!

Update 10:57 MDT: Team Robinson sends an updated press release, correcting the spelling of Kerrey's name and the location of his governorship (Nebraska, not Kansas). Strangely, the release still carries no direct quote from Senator Kerrey. The release does delete mention of Wimes and replaces the Florida number with the South Dakota campaign number. Memo to staff: if a press release is a rough draft, don't stamp it "For Immediate Release" and send it to the press.

    Governor of Kansas?

  2. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.05.14

Oh my—and there's that. The text above is copied verbatim from the release sent to me.

  3. Jerry 2014.05.14

Kansas and Nebraska are neighbors so that means that......

  4. mike from iowa 2014.05.14

Speaking of the actual governor of Kansas, the state is facing a large deficit due to tax cuts for the wealthy.Never saw that one coming. He-he.

  5. Kathy Scott 2014.05.14

MEOW. This probably was an earlier draft. I thought you liked Corinna. She must have done something that made you mad enough to go after her like this. Details, please.

  6. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.05.14

Corinna and I had a perfectly pleasant conversation in Brookings last month. Someone on her staff let her down with sloppy work. It's nothing personal. No cats are meowing, at least not in my yard.

  7. Mark 2014.05.14

I thought it was a draft copy, too. In any case, poor staff work, but hardly the end of the world error. Laugh. Don't make such a simple and avoidable mistake again, and get on with the campaign.. As for the criticism of the current administration, I disagree w/ your point in that Robinson is taking on bipartisan issue about the terrible track record of the VA, which the President should address. This is consistent w/ good policy and good politics. And one that a good Democrat (and former Republican) Bob Kerrey would indeed endorse.

  8. Kathy Scott 2014.05.14

Hmmm...wonder why you're the only person who got a draft? Looks like everyone else posted something different.

  9. Kathy Scott 2014.05.14

I guess someone doesn't trust you with the real stuff. I guess I understand why.

  10. Kathy Scott 2014.05.14

Maybe Corinna said, 'Hey run that by my friend Cory and see what he thinks of the draft' and instead of looking at it, you posted it and eviscerated it.

  11. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.05.14

Hey, Kathy, I'm not a mind reader. Folks send me press releases, with no other text, I assume they are press releases. By the way, what is your official position with the campaign?

  12. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.05.14

Now Mark, you make a good point. If the President is dropping the ball, and Robinson is willing to call him on that, she could score points with veterans and other voters who may have an anti-Obama streak. But every time she mentions Obama's failings, I want to hear them paired with Noem's.

  13. Kathy Scott 2014.05.14

How about changing the release at the top with the right release now that you have an update? Say what you want about the release draft, etc. it's an incredible message that Kerrey has endorsed her. Pretty sure an endorsement is a "direct quote."

PS. I think you should see someone about your obvious love for Pat Powers. I can't tell if your post is criticizing Corinna or trying to get Pat's attention. I rarely get to use sycophant in a sentence so thank you for that.

  14. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.05.14

Hey, Kathy, how about you edit your own blog? I've noted the edited version in the update at the bottom. But I won't revise history for you. And I'm still looking for the statement directly from Kerrey.

  15. Nick Nemec 2014.05.14

Kathy Scott, I'll assume you are a staff person for Corrina, I'm a donor to her campaign. One piece of advice, stop commenting. You're coming across as crazy and it doesn't reflect well on the campaign. Cory is on your side, don't drive him away. One of the best things about Cory is that he is an honest broker not a rubber stamp or a yes man. In politics supporters who have the courage to tell you the truth are rare and invaluable.

  16. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.05.14

Thanks, Nick. And Kathy... "maybe"? Unlike Pat, I generally don't blog on maybes.

  17. Kathy Scott 2014.05.14

Nick, I am a donor and volunteer. I have to say I'm not happy with the 'crazy' comment especially since it's usually reserved when women "comment too much." I'm the founder of MeandMy1000girlfriends.com, one of top women's blogs in the country. I've never met Corinna, I got involved when I saw Pat Power's post calling a combat vet a carpetbagger.

  18. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.05.14

No, Kathy, I think when Nick uses the word "crazy," he means "detached from reality," as in calling me a male organ and trying to dismiss my criticism of your sloppy work as sexist. I'll check with my feminist wife on this when she gets home from work, but I'm pretty sure you don't want to go there, and we don't want to continue this conversation in the petty, personal, and misguided direction you're taking it.

  19. Kathy Scott 2014.05.14

Cory, sloppy work doesn't justify going after Corinna.

  20. David Newquist 2014.05.14

Criticizing such a grossly incompetent "news release" is not an attack on Ms. Robinson, but it does call into question her judgment about how her campaign is best represented. As a veteran of some intense campaigns, I can attest that savvy candidates take great precautions about letting work like this happen. Campaign directors who let it happen would be very quickly replaced.

But of more concern is that kind of accusations being made in this thread are what is driving so many people away from interest in politics and support of the party. Cory's critique is shrewd and knowledgeable. The inane accusations do a disservice to Ms. Robinson.

  21. John Tsitrian 2014.05.14

Oh, jeez. I saw Ms. Scott's tweet before she pulled it. Pretty low class stuff. Certainly doesn't reflect well on Corinna. Having raised a few bucks for her at my house, I'd be pretty dismayed if Robinson identified with a supporter like this.

  22. Deb Geelsdottir 2014.05.14

As one who is definitely feminist, and definitely supports women, I think Kathy Scott is heading in the wrong direction. I haven't read any attacks on Corinna Robinson anywhere in Cory's several posts regarding her on this blog. I've read valid criticism, such as this post.

Cory is trusted to the high level he has reached precisely because he is willing to critique without a partisan filter. I don't want to see that change.

Last, I wouldn't say Ms. Scott seems crazy, but she does come across as highly, blindly partisan. For me, that Is Not a Positive Attribute.

  23. Kathy Scott 2014.05.14

Deb, thank you for your comment. I don't actually call myself a feminist. I simply am "blindly partisan" for women, but mostly veterans. I have done work with children who have lost a parent in the last decade.Cory and I have been in touch on several occasions. I've even given him suggestions on postings, which may be why he wanted to set me straight. He knew the email came from me, with an "FYI." I'm not on staff with Corinna and it certainly wasn't in an official capacity, which is why my heart sank when he posted it. He knew it came from me so why act like he didn't know? You call him high-minded without a partisan filter and yet he was quick to bring in prejudicial links from Pat Power's blog. Again, the entire debacle begin with a simple FYI of a release I had seen last week that I thought he would appreciate. It's fortunate that no one commenting has every trusted in someone so blindly or made a mistake that so many have decided is reason to question someone's character. Corinna needs a lot of help. I hope those of you who are donors will also be volunteers.

  24. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.05.14

Yes, Kathy, you made a significant mistake, releasing campaign documents to the press that you were not authorized to release. Your error really doesn't require any more description or decoration.

  25. grudznick 2014.05.14

Kathy sent a campaign document to the press? I have a hard time believing that.

  26. Kathy Scott 2014.05.14

Cory, you're not the press. You're a blogger. There's a huge difference. If you WERE the press, you would have verified it and got a quote. Not one press person would have printed this document without authentication from staff ever. Second, I have NO Campaign documents. I live in Atlanta. I've never met Corinna. I don't work for the campaign. If you were a journalist, you probably could be sued for printing something that you attributed to a campaign. You know me. Seriously. What's going on and what's the agenda here?

  27. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.05.14

So we're going to keep at it? O.K.

No campaign documents? So what, you just fabricated a document that said "Corinna Robinson for South Dakota" at the top to masquerade as an official campaign document?

Not the press? Baloney. I exercise my First Amendment rights daily with my handy little press, disseminating information to the public. You know that. That's why you sent me those earlier stories. But golly, if I can't believe a press release when I receive it from you, I guess it's a good thing I didn't jump on that other story you wanted me to run about Kristi Noem and Dakotafest, since I probably couldn't take your word on that one either.

"what's the agenda here?" Oh, I don't know... reporting news and opinion? Promoting civil discussion? Holding politicians accountable for errors?

"could be sued" Really? By whom? You? Corinna? Expound on the guiding jurisprudence for us. Explain who got libeled with malicious intent and deliberately false information. Explain who slandered anyone... before the 1000 Girlfriends Twitter account started taking personal shots at me, saying I hate women and somehow implicating the august South Dakota Magazine in... just what, again?

And "1000 Girlfriends"? Gee, you'd think at least one of them could proofread.

  28. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.05.14

Yeah, someone should probably intervene. I'm not in a crap-taking mood.

  29. Kathy Scott 2014.05.14

    What made that document official?

  30. grudznick 2014.05.14

Are there pictures of these 1000 girlfriends somewhere?

  31. Rhino Lynn 2014.05.14

Kathy I appreciate the comments you have made trying to help Corinna elsewhere when she was attacked and in just helping educate voters about her. Mistakes happen by all of us. Lets move forward and help Corinna.

  32. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.05.14

Grudz, someone other than you. You need to just stand back.

  33. Roger Cornelius 2014.05.14

A professional well organized political campaign apologizes for their mistakes and hope the issue will go away.
It breaks one of the campaign commandments to let the mistake degenerate into blaming and naming calling.

If the media is mistaken in publishing a press release they will correct it.

If the campaign makes the mistake, they should apologize and hope to hell the issue goes away.

  34. Les 2014.05.14

"""Keystone XL Pipeline has gained more attention than rural connectivity, connections that would have a lasting effect on the education of South Dakota’s youth.""""
    .
Isn't this the group who wishes to destroy rural connectivity so they can have unlimited access to anything and everything which they believe is wholly preserved for them through so called net neutrality?

  35. Jaka 2014.05.14

Kathy Scott, you are doing a great disservice to one of the best journalistic services available in this state.........!
Are you a wannabe controlling woman who wants to see everyone 'cow down' to you or are you going to be someone who helps elect Corinna who surely doesn't strike me (I've met/talked w/her and was greatly impressed)--as someone who would condone your blog posts!!!! Come on--Cory does more for progressive politics in this state in 100 words than you can do in 10,000 the way you talk!!!!

  36. Jerry 2014.05.14

I once heard an old rodeo rider say that "sometimes first and second both pay the same". What he said is true to the conversation with you and Kathy Scott, not worth the effort. Maybe she will just buck out and leave the arena, one can certainly hope.

  37. Kathy Scott 2014.05.14

Jerry, spoken like a true gentleman. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, "Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity." What I like most about your post Jerry is that you act as if I don't have a right to be here or offer my opinion. You call yourselves progressives and act like a barroom men smoking cigars and rubbing your bellies. grudznick, Roger Cornelius and the women posting have offered fair minded comments. The others have been acting acting like school boys trying to throw me off the playground. LAST TIME: I am not Corinna's staff. I am not Corinna's staffer. Cory and I have shared emails. I forwarded him an old document (I'm sure you people share documents with each other) that I had. Yes I help when I can. I am not a staffer. I sent that to Cory today like I have sent MANY other things and for some reason he acted like he got it from a ghost and questioned Corinna's character. Very uncool. So if one more of you men want to act like I don't have a right (JERRY) to be in this arena when Cory posted about me, then go ahead. "The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is." -Winston Churchill

    Anne,

If you actually bothered to read the thread and the comments, you'd know it was Kathy that made the mistake not Ms. Robinson.

  41. Anne 2014.05.14

Roger, I was not referring to Ms. Robinson, but to Ms. Scott. The malicious mentality, the nasty d

  43. Anne 2014.05.14

That's denigrations. I'm working from a borrowed Dell that has a flighty cursor.

  44. Douglas Wiken 2014.05.14

With friends like Kathy Scott, Robinson doesn't need any enemies.

I do not understand candidates of any sex being so reluctant to pay attention to the ideas and concerns of the people they expect to contribute to their campaigns and vote for them.

  45. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.05.14

Jerry, sensible advice. Larry, even more sensible. Anne, drat that dastardly Dell and its deviating delineator!

The Dems have co opted Boz into the GOP primary subversion if it wasn't there already. Couldn't stop eating so now eating their own? Adios Señorita Corinna, how quickly they had you hanging out to dry.

Y'all can disagree with Kathy all you want. But leave out any anti-woman cracks, and there have been a couple very near.

    Grudz, you are incorrigible.

    But cute about it.

  48. WestRiver 2014.05.15

I, being a woman, Christian, AND a Republican can say that I appreciate everything Cory reports on. He does sometimes have to rely on others for some of the material he uses and he should be able to believe whoever sends him the material is giving him honest-to-goodness stuff that he can report on. As far as being the Press, I sincerely believe that he should not just be a blogger but a published journalist. Ok, I will take that last comment back because if he were under the employ of say the Argus Leader or KELO TV then he'd be stifled and being told he had to allow Bosworth the space to scam with yet another fake money-grabbing non-profit. But I digress. Thank you Cory for all you do, the truth you tell, the light you shed and for being the most polite, helpful, well-meaning person to someone who shares both politically and religiously (can you use that term with an atheist?) almost opposite views of yours. Although you may convince me to be liberal :)

  49. WestRiver 2014.05.15

    la-la-la-la-la-la-la just kidding Cory!

  50. David Newquist 2014.05.15

I was able to take only cursory notice of the postings here yesterday, but as a supporter of Corinna Robinson and one who worked on press matters in campaigns, I was a bit alarmed by the so-called press release because it was so deficient in basic journalistic factors. I wondered if this release had any knowledge or authorization from the Robinson campaign and if she and her staff should be given the opportunity to deny its authorization and legitimacy to represent the campaign.

Then there is the matter of Bob Kerrey, who is Executive Chairman of the Minerva Institute for Research and Scholarship based in San Francisco. Although he comments on politics as he did in the Guardian in March, saying that Obama won only because he "sucked less than Romney." I find it difficult to understand if he is acquainted with Robinson and why a person in his position would offer an endorsement. He, too, needs opportunity to affirm his endorsement or disassociate himself from that press release.

As most readers of my blog know, I am dismayed at how the Internet, which initially seemed like a huge breakthrough in the dissemination and discussion of information, has become more a medium of subversion and perversion of information. It is so rife with fraudulent and specious representations by the ignorant and malicious that it has lost its value as a communication medium among those who care about the integrity of the language and the authenticity of information.

  51. Douglas Wiken 2014.05.15

It appears that women have very slightly thinner skin than males. Of course, males have to have thicker skins to resist the attacks on "white male privilege" by those with slightly thinner skin.

  52. Rhino Lynn 2014.05.15

Yesterday when I read what I thought was initially a press release I noticed right away someone didn't proof read it before sending it out. I remember Bob Kerrey and his history. That reflects on the campaign and the hard work everyone is putting into it.

Last night I checked out the 1000 girlfriends website and when I read what and who she was tweeting such as Annette Bosworth and Kristi Noem. I was shocked! Is she really trying to help Corinna's campaign or hurt it? What I read yesterday looked to me she was trying to drive away support. It really went out of control with the attacks.

  53. Rhino Lynn 2014.05.15

Kathy Scott's tweet history is what I found the most disturbing.

  54. Kathy Scott 2014.05.15

Rhino Lynn, Would you please do me the favor of posting your real name so that I can check out your history and critique you. I would like to measure you up against Bosworth and Noem. I will use my software to get your IP address and post it on my blog or you can provide it for me. Your choice.

Mr. Newquist, You are a professor of Biology, not Journalism.

Douglas Wiken, You are an avowed racist so I find your presence her interesting.

I find it interesting that each of you have enjoyed going after me. Please allow me the same "fun."

Each of you has your own secret and yet your hold yourself up as people of principle and character.

  55. larry kurtz 2014.05.15

    I hate ethanol.

  56. larry kurtz 2014.05.15

Since Major Robinson doesn't have a prayer in the US House race when she start sounding like a real Democrat? She has nothing to lose.

  57. Rhino Lynn 2014.05.15

Kathy please look at the big picture and what hopefully your original intentions were. Then look at what you have posted on this blog, tweeted and elsewhere.

Are your actions helping or hurting Corinna's chances to win the election?

I am very impressed with what she has achieved in her military career with her enlistment rising thru the ranks becoming an NCO and later an officer. She helped raise a family, continued her education and had a great deal of responsibility afterwards in her position helping to protect the Pentagon. She brings a great deal of experience and capability to this election far more than her opponent.

She is a clear underdog going up against a well established good ole boy network in the state and is no match for the resources they have in getting the voters to know just who Corinna is and what she has to offer. This side-drama doesn't help and is just a distraction.

So I ask you again. Are you trying to help or hurt Corinna's chances in the election?

  58. kathy scott 2014.05.15

    Rhino Lynn,

This is about me, not Corinna. Read my blog post today. Stop associating me with Corinna. I knew Cory before Corinna. This is not about her it's about he and I.

    Kathy

  59. larry kurtz 2014.05.15

Kathy appears to be a Bosworth apologist: curious why she chose to hijack this thread.

  60. larry kurtz 2014.05.15

Care to weigh in on Israel's war crimes record, Kathy?

  61. Joe K 2014.05.15

  62. Roger Cornelius 2014.05.15

    Kathy Scott,

I plan to vote for Major Robinson, it is likely that most of the people on Madville will do likewise.

Will please quit arguing with us. If you want to work for Major Robinson, do that. What you are doing here is petty and uncalled for.

Major Robinson has many talents and is intellectual, please start posting her qualities and why she is more qualified for congress than Noem.

Noem has a garbage can full of issues that can be exploited and shared with South Dakotans.

  63. kathy scott 2014.05.15

So was someone going to tell me that Pat Powers and Cory were together? Yes, this story is entertaining. But Roger, no I don't, can't and could never again work for Corinna.

Corys and Pats living together, real wrath of God stuff. Pat, I didn’t know you and Cory had a rapprochement! Talk about burying the lead!

  64. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.05.15

Investigating my commenters is something I would expect from Pat Powers and the SDGOP, not a real Corinna Robinson supporter, present or past. Such investigations also have no bearing whatsoever on the topic under discussion here.

  65. Les 2014.05.16

"""""" But leave out any anti-woman cracks,""""""" Crack of the day.

  66. Deb Geelsdottir 2014.05.17

I think Kathy Scott is a plant trying to damage Robinson's campaign.

  67. lesliengland 2014.05.17

what a dangerous place to post. what unfortunate consequences for corrina. what a waste of time for all of us here. uncle, quack, meow, publicist, journalist, fired, oh my!??

  68. grudznick 2014.05.17

This young Kathy Scott person seems insaner than most, even if she does have 1,000 girlfriends. I think this whole thing is something Sibby and my common friend Bob cooked up. I heard him talking about a similar prank once and expect him to bounce in here any time and doff his hat and say he tricked you all.

  69. Jerry 2014.05.17

Kathy Scott does not have 1000 girlfriends or even 100, in fact, she has none. Who in their right mind (thanks grudsnick for your description of how mentally challenged Kathy Scott is), would want to associate in person with this idiot. Okay, damnit, I do. I have a weakness for the psychotic along with the sociopaths, call me Kathy Scott, I will let you buy dinner and some wine and later, if your lucky, we can count the freckles on your back. I must warn you that even if you are nuts, I am okay with that as long as you pick up the tab and I see that you tip nicely. Can you hold your liquor??

  70. Deb Geelsdottir 2014.05.17

    Hahahaha! Excellent Jerry!
I'm told that Scott (?) is now attacking me on her website. I haven't been there and I'm not going. I'll just agree with my best buddy Grudz, who has added her to his "Insaner than Most" list.

  71. Roger Cornelius 2014.05.17

After reading comments here, I checked out the me and my 1,000 girlfriends website, it became immediately clear that Kathy Scott is self-absorbed. It is also clear that she is easily offended with someone taking an opposing view.
I can somewhat understand her attacks on Cory, being that he is a man, but her attacks on our dear Christian friend Deb is confusing.
Deb lends support to Kathy and yet Kathy needs to attack her with with a whole blog.
In the above comments Kathy states that she is a donor and volunteer for Corinna, but in follow-up comments disavows in relationship with her. Which is it Kathy? If you aren't involved with Corinna's campaign, when did that relationship end. Did Corinna terminate your services or return your financial donation.
It is time for a statement from Corrina and to shut this insanity down.

  72. kathy scott 2014.05.17

    Roger,

I doubt this will shut this down, but here are your answers. I helped Corinna. I got her Bob Kerrey. I recently paid for her to meet with another substantial democratic leader. From the start I helped her because I respect her as a soldier and I didn't like what Powers was doing to her. When Cory choose to post that draft and set Corinna up, I sent an email to Corinna apologizing and I copied Cory. At that point I told her that I would no longer work on her campaign. He can tell you the exact date. As for your Christian friend, her post this morning stirring the pot once more about me is hardly Christian. So in answer to your question, what I would be able to provide for Corinna financial and in terms of connections I will not do. Cory was disloyal to a friend and apparently wanted to drive me away. In the end that is what it boils down to. With friends like me...you might say, you have no idea what kind of friend I am. I would never have printed a draft release and questioned my friend's ability to govern. And I definitely wouldn't have linked other negative stories about Corinna in my post.

  73. Deb Geelsdottir 2014.05.17

    "Turn out the lights,
    the party's over."

  74. Jerry 2014.05.18

Oh no, a confession..and the song lyrics I love so much, how appropriate and yet somehow, how vindictive. Crazy town meets freckle count, here we come, this is gonna be easier than I thought!!

  75. Jenny 2014.05.18

This is just sad. Come on, people, aren't we better than this? I would have been perturbed also if Cory had done this to me. Move on, though, don't dwell on it Kathy. Your anger and hurt by keeping this going is not going to heal yourself. We've all been hurt by people we thought were friends, family members, etc. Unfortunately we're all still going to get hurt and humiliated as we walk through life. Move on everyone, and remember we have all has been pained at some point in life.

  76. Jerry 2014.05.18

Oh Jenny, your so sweet and you sound so convincing too. Oh, and Jenny, no, we are not better than this. That is what makes us so damn human. Cory did nothing wrong here as a blogger, stop with the accusations.

  77. Jenny 2014.05.18

You are right, Jerry. We are just humans, but I also have a right to my own opinion. If I was Cory I wouldn't have post the draft release in the first place, and I'm NOT accusing Cory of anything, so calm down.

  78. Jerry 2014.05.18

Sorry Jenny, it is just that I understand your English written words of "I would have been perturbed also if Cory had done this to me." You must forgive me for making the connection that Cory had done something wrong. Now, so we are clear, you do have a right to your opinions, of course you do. It is those pesky facts that always seem to get in the way of a good argument.

  79. Jenny 2014.05.18

But I will accuse Cory of overly obsessing on the crazy doctor and her husband when he could be after going Rounds.

  80. Jenny 2014.05.18

    going after Rounds (I meant).

  81. Jenny 2014.05.18

And speaking of properly written English words, Jerry, it would be 'you're' so sweet, not 'your so sweet. That darn English language, so many rules to remember.

  82. Jerry 2014.05.18

Well, sometimes in the big picture of things, you tend to realize that by "going after" someone, means that you are in second place. As we are speaking of opinions, here is mine. The "crazy" doctor may have broken the law and perjured herself with her ongoing mess of a campaign. It is up to citizens like Cory to "whistleblow" these issues or to provide a platform in which that can be done. As we do not have a law enforcement agency here in South Dakota to pursue this kind of law breaking, it is up to the citizens to expose it through any means necessary. In this case, exposing the doctor does in fact expose the ex governor.

  83. Jerry 2014.05.18

Thanks mom, for keeping me on my proper English prose.

  84. Les 2014.05.18

The crazy doctor here was the seven course meal Jer. Corinna was the desert. Ah, tasty she was. SD Dems, opportunity money just can't buy.

  85. Lanny V Stricherz 2014.05.18

Before watching the debate, which incidentally will be rebroadcast on SD Public TV this afternoon, I believe at 1:00 CDT, I would have agreed with you about, Cory wasting time on Bosworth. But again, in the debate, she is the only one who was able to differentiate herself from the crowd, and be a thorn in the side to Rounds. I won't vote for her but then I am not the average, church going voter, who might buy into some of the propaganda she peddles. Think that she doesn't appeal to the average person, then explain how in the world she is second place in the area of fundraising?

  86. Jerry 2014.05.18

You are correct Les, you cannot buy SD Dems. Not for sale, but that is not a bad thing. Meanwhile, republicans are still trying to pimp Benghazi and now, here you are, pimping this. I am surprised that Benghazi horse has not entered the race here yet. If these are such a big deal, why am I laughing?

  87. Les 2014.05.18

Reading comprehension much Jer? Sorry, mom.

  88. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.05.18

Lanny, an important caveat: Bosworth appeals to the average uninformed person, not the average South Dakotan. The vast majority of her money comes from the prefab slogans pasted on Base Connect's letters and postcards sent to vulnerable, gullible retirees out of state. Bosworth does not break single digits in South Dakota on June 3.

I'm trying to figure out the value in pushing this story further. Kathy Scott erred in distributing the press release. I erred in attributing it to the campaign and not to one irresponsible volunteer apparently unauthorized to distribute such material. If you're really working for Corinna Robinson's best interests, do you trumpet this story and wage an unseemly and mostly useless campaign of creepy personal threats and counterfactual assertions of conspiracy against the bloggers who mention it? Or, having explained the situation and expressed your disapproval directly to the parties concerned, do you let the story drop and get back to real campaigning, including making sure that you get the Kerrey endorsement for Robinson into the press as the headline of the week?

Who benefits from pushing this story further? Not Corinna Robinson. At that point, as Jenny says, we should all move on to bigger fish, right?

  89. Lanny V Stricherz 2014.05.18

By the first part of your comment, Cory, are you implying that the average South Dakota voter is informed? If that is so, that makes things even worse than I thought they were/are.

  90. Roger Cornelius 2014.05.18

Is Cory the only blogger or media person that received this email?

  91. Jerry 2014.05.18

The road goes on forevah with this. Someone please put a tent over this circus and do it now...

  92. Lanny V Stricherz 2014.05.18

When I left Thursday morning, to go fishing, there was a note on it comments closed. I thought that's good, so was surprised yesterday when I came back to see about 25 new comments on it, and of course a lot more since.

  93. grudznick 2014.05.18

This strange young woman seems to think she was friends with Mr. H and has an odd fixation on him. She probably thought she was doing him some kind of favor instead of setting him up to look silly when the media got the real press release. Then she went insaner on him when he felt she tricked him. She is like some sort of groupie for Mr. H. A spurned groupie, and those can be some odd ducks.

  94. grudznick 2014.05.18

Mr. Stricherz, how was your fishing?

  95. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.05.18

Lanny... you saw a "Closed" sign on this post? Odd... I don't think I put one up... though I'm tempted.

  96. Lanny V Stricherz 2014.05.18

The first night my two (younger) buddies got their limit of walleyes and I got skunked. The second night, one of them got his limit the other got 1 and I again got skunked. I am lucky to be alive though, as I climbed back up the rocks to the road, I lost my balance and went over backwards down the rocks and only hit my tailbone and behind, not my back or head. Although my behind hurts, I think my pride is hurt more, by both the fall and being skunked two nights in a row.

  97. Lanny V Stricherz 2014.05.18

Not positive Cory, but it was just before I left to go fishing and I thought that is what I read.

  98. Lanny V Stricherz 2014.05.18

Well, it is official, I am losing my mind, since if you didn't delete it Cory, and I would presume that you are the only one who could have, I went back and checked and it would have had to been between West River at .09 on 5-15 and David N @ 10:23 and it ain't there.

  99. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.05.18

Sorry, fellas: we're having a little sockpuppet outbreak here. I will be deleting comments from fake commenters and responses to them, to avoid cluttering the discussion.

  100. Deb Geelsdottir 2014.05.18

"Sock puppet outbreak." Good one. This entire post and every comment has been one of the strangest experiences I've had in Madville. Thanks all.

  101. grudznick 2014.05.18

Ms. Geelsdottir, you have yet to experience a breakfast with my friend Bill and my good friend Bill. That is an experience.

  102. Lanny V Stricherz 2014.05.18

grudz is your friend Bill and your good friend Bill, kind of like "this is my brother, Darrell and this is my other brother Darrell."?

  103. Deb Geelsdottir 2014.05.18

I have no doubt Grudz, no doubt. If you are there . . . . And I have met Mr. Bill, though only briefly several years ago. I don't know about your Other Friend Bill. How many Other Friend Bills are there? Is Lanny right about them?
