Home Run Ad: West River Republican “Can’t Vote for Mike Rounds”

Elm Springs rancher Pat Trask boils the case against Mike Rounds into one simple message: Mike Rounds puts big money over the interests of South Dakota.

"I voted for Reagan, Bush, Thune -- but I can't vote for Mike Rounds," says Trask, with all the calm force of a Badlands heat wave.

Even objective reporter David Montgomery has to admit this ad from Mayday PAC is not just "effective" but "quietly devastating." Sure, outside money paid to put the ad on TV, but the words come straight from a South Dakota Republican, a man with a pick-up truck with South Dakota plates and horses grazing along the Cheyenne River, saying the words South Dakota needs to hear: Mike Rounds doesn't deserve your vote.

p.s.: The Displaced Plainsman is throwing in the towel for all Democrats, including Weiland. But Mayday PAC and I ain't heard no fat lady! Share this video, and Get Out The Vote!

  2. John Tsitrian 2014.10.29

I've known the Trasks for many years, even helped Pat brand his calves a few times. Straight-shooters, every one of 'em.

  3. 96Tears 2014.10.29

What JT said. Good folks. Solid reputations. Effective ad. Should have run it a week ago.

  4. owen reitzel 2014.10.29

  5. Jaka 2014.10.29

I know there's a helluvalot more Repubs of the Tsitrian/Trask ilk that aren't voting for Rounds either. Many won't say such,,, it's that dang SD herd mentality.. One only has to thin back to George McGovern/Nixon race---and who SD voted for and who was the proven crook and who gave more after political life to the world??????? 'member folks?
    Thanks Trask, for the gumption!

  6. Jaka 2014.10.29

    'think back' (sorry)

  7. mike from iowa 2014.10.29

Has there been an ex wingnut Potus who has given much of his post-Potusism to charity work? I can't think of a single one.

  8. Barry Smith 2014.10.29

Bet Gordon Howie never thought that Mayday PAC would do an ad for him. :-)

  9. grudznick 2014.10.29

This fellow is a Larouchite. It makes perfect sense he would be with the insaner than most Mr. Howie.

  10. Jenny 2014.10.29

Well, who is the Cowboy voting for then, or is he sitting 'er out?

  11. Jenny 2014.10.29

Good commercial, his accent kind of sounds like one of the ol' MN Norwegian populists!

  12. Jaka 2014.10.29

Jana--don't matter 'who' he's for,,,,who he's against right now means a whole lot more...

  13. Roger Cornelius 2014.10.29

Powers To Be at the Dump Site is saying that this registered Republican is a Commie.

  14. Kate 2014.10.29

A good friend of mine believes herself to be a republican (though can't really explain why except she thinks Nancy Pelosi is evil). But today she voted straight Democratic on the big SD races. She's heard me discuss enough SD political corruption and agreed we could not send Rounds to DC. I hope there are more of these republicans in the state who will vote for the state's best interests rather than the party's.

  15. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.10.29

Kate, thank your friend for those courageous votes. Let's hope you, your friend, and Pat Trask and bring more South Dakota Republicans around... and let's hope the debate that starts on KELO in five minutes brings even more over!

  16. Jenny 2014.10.29

Wow, watch Gordon Howie kick butt again! Go Gordie!

  17. Jenny 2014.10.29

State government corruption is not an issue for Mike Rounds, South Dakotans. Are you hearin' that SD voters?

  18. Jana 2014.10.29

It's not an issue, it's business as usual.

  19. Jana 2014.10.29

Larry brings up gun control...quick quiz for the GOPers out there.

Who has imposed more gun controls? Reagan or Obama?

  20. Jenny 2014.10.29

Mike Rounds does not look into the camera to SD voters. All the other candidates look at the camera. Lack of eye contact is an honesty issue, body language says a lot.

  21. jerry 2014.10.29

Jenny, good catch. He is not even a good insurance salesman it appears. That must have been given to him as well.

  22. Les 2014.10.29

Gordon, shines though Larry will most likely collect from Gordo's shine. RW had a few moments his voice wasn't in a whine and is the overall loser, closing the door on his opportunity. Odd, when it doesn't take much to beat Rounds in so many ways.
    .
Again, this debate paints Gordon as the most qualified senate candidate or debater, your choice.

  23. Roger Cornelius 2014.10.29

Mike Rounds vision for America and South Dakota,

    REPEAL! REPEAL! REPEAL!

  24. Roger Cornelius 2014.10.29

How many times was Mike Rounds called a liar during the debate, should have been a drinking game.

  25. Jane 2014.10.29

    Mr Trask, Well said!
SD EB-5 abuse Should matter to the citizens of SD.

  26. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.10.29

Jaka, all those Republicans you know who are skittish about saying they'll vote against Rounds—they don't have to say it; they just have to do it. Just vote for the same honesty that Mr. Trask treats us with an expects from his elected officials.

  27. Taunia 2014.10.29

Wow!! Pat Trask?? Holy turnover!! There are...what...100 voting age Trasks/offspring in rural, eastern Pennington County? Influential and well thought of family.

Damn! Noem campaigner Teddy Hustead has to be sh*tting his pants! (Sorry, no other words applied here.) That huge a voter turnover in Teddy's/Wall Drug's own neighborhood is a big sign that all is not well for Republicans, even in rural-red-as-hell SD.

    Oh. Wow. How exciting.

This would have been incredible for Corinna Robinson had that campaign ever really saw daylight. Damn shame for her.

I am in love with the Weiland campaign. I'd have paid to work for that campaign. Totally salivating.

  28. lesliengland 2014.10.29

GEE, TOTALLY SALIVATING, BATMAN! love it.

Les. i have no idea where you are, from your spasmodic posts (meaning leaning dem. at times, then hard right rudder!) but to call rick the clear loser means you are either uninformed about the rounds misstatements, or you a judging on style.

And rick's style is fine. He was thinking, before speaking. not a single misstatement. integrity.

not like rounds or pressler. canned bumpersticker sentiments meaning nothing. as the clear winner rick asked South Dakota to pay attention to the true mike rounds speaking to us tonight. not a pretty picture. embarrassing.

if rounds wins, we are adrift in a state of fools. the only thing he's got is paid ads that misinform voters. maybe thats o.k. with you. not me. i have loved ones i care about.

  29. lesliengland 2014.10.30

Western SD dems- everyone of us must do everything possible this week to forward the ground game. GET OUT THE VOTE!

  30. JeniW 2014.10.30

Don't forget that you can vote early by going to the County Auditor's Office.

  31. lesliengland 2014.10.30

Pat's gotta be going for howie which helps us; on the right to life issue as he may not trust pressler. or am i wrong? is this evidence of the weird reid/pressler conspiracy which i can't buy??

worked with pat a little years ago against Homestake's water monopoly on Elk Creek and the rest of the northern hills. you are welcome grudz.

  32. Dave 2014.10.30

I'm a rancher too and retired from the Army. Weiland and Trask will support the EPA taking over my water rights for my stock dam. They will raise my taxes again. They will destroy Medicare as we know it. They will support closing Ellsworth AFB. Fact check: Senator Ted Kennedy and Congressman Tom Daschle, who Weiland was a Senior Staff Assistant, authored EB-5 in 1990. The truth will set you free!

  33. Bill Fleming 2014.10.30

Don't you just love it when these anti-socialist conservatives fight to defend socialist programs, but don't want to come up with the money to pay for them?

Dave, please point us to your evidence that supports your claim that either Weiland or Trask want to close EAFB. I haven't heard either of them say anything of the sort.

The truth will set you free too, Dave. But It might also piss you off first. Rounds is lying through his teeth, and you are reading straight off his talking point cheat sheet.

  34. lesliengland 2014.10.30

Dave, it is not the EB5 program that doesn't work, it works brilliantly.

It is the fraudulent implementation of all that free cash coming in so fast, that SDGOP completely mismanaged resulting in bilking the public, investors, a very public death of a governor's staffer, and a cover-up at every station in south dakota republican government.

are you a god ole' boy, too, defending your GOP brothers and sisters? a single legislative subpeona would have done the trick in exposing what appears to be a very big fraud on you and the rest of us, BEFORE A CRITICAL NATIONAL ELECTION. that is pretty big fraud.

  35. lesliengland 2014.10.30

    "good". sorry for the typo.

  36. Jane 2014.10.30

Dave, the #1 issue is the abuse of EB-5 by greedy individuals. The #2 issue is the coverup so #1.
Doesn't matter who authored it. This is an example of how your interest will be represented, basically zero. And actually you too will End up paying for their greed. How? by raised taxes, another example. By being surrounded with failed economic ecosystem.
Clowns that like to call people commie or neo-Marxist because they don't align to your way of thinking, there is a Confucius saying, speak carefully as the word you use is a reflection of yourself.

  37. Les 2014.10.30

"""""Dave, it is not the EB5 program that doesn't work, it works brilliantly."""""". So am I to assume you lean Repub, lengland? I can see value across the aisle and when that stops, you have what we have in DC, and in SD Dems inability to elect anyone with their purist political attitudes.

  38. leslie 2014.10.30

I have seen no evidence of republicans working across the aisle in national politics.

after the bruising the repubs have administered across the board with their conspiracy of obstruction since 2009 began, they choose "villain" after "villain" en mass, in orchestration so complete, I have missed the bipartisanism we all know we need.

now its evil harry reid sitting on all those valuable house passed bills which will require us to debunk the bilge one by one , when time is critical. i'll give you one thing as a liberal democrat, you guys can strategize this nation to its grave.

I recognize the money raising ability of EB5. In the hands of honest and regulated administration, it is a valuable thing. why would you not stand up against crooks of whatever color?

  39. Les 2014.10.30

    Reading comprehension much leslie?

  40. Roger Cornelius 2014.10.30

Interesting how les is blaming Democrats for not keeping the lid on the cookie jar, Democrats are apparently to blame for Mike Rounds crony capitalism corruption for not being able to win local and state elections.

  41. Les 2014.10.30

    Reading comprehension much Roger?

  42. Les 2014.10.30

You have picked up the lies and innuendos quite well, Roger Rabbbit.

  43. Roger Cornelius 2014.10.30

My reading comprehension skills are fine thank you. How are yours?
les, I couldn't count the number of times Rounds was called out for lying during the debate, can you?
Am I to assume that the FBI reporting that EB-5 is an active investigation or innuendo?
Is Tidemann not issuing subpoenas and shutting down an investigation of Rounds a lie or innuendo?
Are the two specific Rounds lies about EB-5 a lie or innuendo?
Which party is responsible for the missing $140 million immigration fees Rounds allowed Bollen to walk away with?
Is asking why a beef plant that received over $167 million in investments and Governor Rounds Future Fund grants could not stay operational a lie or innuendo?
It must be Larry Lucas' fault for not being at the GOAC hearing to second Susan Wismer's attempt to issue subpoenas, even though if there was a second, the Republicans owned by Rounds would have defeated the motion anyway, is that a lie or innuendo?

  44. Bill Fleming 2014.10.30

LOL, Les writes a dog turd, argle-bargle sentence that no one on the planet could parse and then tries to go upside everybody's head because they can't figure out what the heck the functionally illiterate old fart is talking about.

    :-)

  45. jerry 2014.10.30

Good one Bill Fleming, good one. A dog turd, argle-bargle sentence is one that has escaped me. I can clearly see it now and it does leave me head scratching. Clearly code for something only Les is in on.

  46. Les 2014.10.31

my response included a piece from lenlgand, roger. the comment was not intended for you, co dependent, much?

  47. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.10.31

Dave, Weiland worked to keep Ellsworth AFB open. He will continue to keep that vital government jobs program open for Rapid City.

The EPA/water regs fuss is fabricated. The "waters of the USA" proposals actually give the EPA authority over less territory than it had under Reagan.

I can't tell if Rick Weiland will raise your taxes without knowing your income, and I don't want to snoop. Rick will lift the income cap on Social Security tax, strengthening the system.

Weiland won't destroy Medicare; he'll bring more healthy premium-payers into the system, extending its life even further than the ACA already has.

And EB-5? Congress and President George H.W. Bush did not intend in 1990 for Mike Rounds to hand his cronies easy money as a reward for breaking the law. Let's focus on real South Dakota issues. If you want honest conservative principles, you vote for Gordon Howie. If you want reliable representation for South Dakota, you vote for Rick Weiland. Under no honest paradigm do you vote for Mike Rounds.

  48. Les 2014.10.31

functionally illiterate feels good to me......theother side of that coin here is the disfunctional illiterate. time for this functional to get out and carry the water for the disfunctional here.

  49. Roger Cornelius 2014.10.31

    les,
I wasn't aware that you were in the madville cop that regulates who responds to what comment. You'll have to hook up with Cory and have blog rules explained to you.

  50. Roger Cornelius 2014.10.31

In the mean time les, you haven't answered my questions, Republican co-dependent?

  51. Douglas Wiken 2014.10.31

Photo of Mike Rounds. "Would you buy a used car from this man?" Rounds makes Nixon look like a saint.

Or, "Would you buy a used talking point from this man?"
