Tyler Pokes the Bear, Mocks Big-Money Attack Ads

Rep. Kathy Tyler (D-4/Big Stone City) isn't taking the deceptive big-money PAC attacks lying down. She shows Democrats that when the negative ads come, you hit right back:

Rep. Kathy Tyler "Poked the Bear" advertisment, 2014.10.28

Rep. Tyler is referring to the big money a new PAC called "East River Concerned Citizens" is pouring into deceptive ads against her. The radio spots and postcards are less interested in accurately portraying her voting record on abortion (she's actually a bit conservative for my taste) and, from what I hear from sources and glean from who's contributing to ERCC, more interested in retaliating against Tyler for challenging the state's corrupt EB-5 economic development practices.

Certain big-money players have a great stake in South Dakota's endemic corruption (that's the second time this morning I've used that phrase and that link, and for good reason). Democrats like Rep. Kathy Tyler who speak the truth to that power can expect hard negative attacks to take them out. Fortunately, Rep. Tyler is not easily cowed by such attacks. Democrats, follow Kathy's lead. Poke that bear, and don't back down!

Cory, You wrote, "Democrats, follow Kathy's lead. Poke that bear, and don't back down!"

That is the absolute essence of whether we will ever have a two party system of government in this State again, if we ever did at the State level.

  2. Steve Sibson 2014.10.28

"Poke that bear, and don't back down!"

Cory, I use that same approach when you use deception to attack conservatives.

  3. Lanny V Stricherz 2014.10.28

    We've noticed, Steve.

  4. Tim 2014.10.28

Steve, have you ever considered why the people of Mitchell laugh until it hurts any time you run for a public office?

  5. oldguy 2014.10.28

I was really hoping that the statewide election this year we would be electing more Dem's for state and county positions as two party government runs the best when you really do have two parties. It is looking like my hope is not going to happen and makes me wonder if it ever will. SAD!!!

Steve you need to go back to your planet Uranus and build your perfect utopia called SibCity.

I don't know why you even come to this blog since it is like a polar mismatch and hardly anyone takes you seriously. lol

  7. Lynn 2014.10.28

Being raised & schooled Catholic It just ticks me off that the powers behind the EB-5 and other corruption in Pierre send a Catholic hit squad to misrepresent Rep. Tyler's another Catholic's voting record with those behind this portraying themselves as virtuous when their actions are completely different. Oh! I know of one nun who was like a drill sergeant in grade school that would take these boys back to the coat room and inflict some pain! lol

  8. Steve Sibson 2014.10.28

Lanny, thanks for noticing. Looks like there are a couple of grumpy bears who feel poked on this thread.

  9. Bill Fleming 2014.10.28

Yes, Sibby, go back to Uranus and get rid of the Klingons. LOL

  10. mike from iowa 2014.10.28

Sibby,in your case the word is provoked, not poked. Sibson's provoke is the poked version of insanity-you do it over and over and expect anything.

  11. mike from iowa 2014.10.28

There are no conservatives, only more liberals according to prophet Sibbless Macaroni.

  12. Les 2014.10.28

The purists here find no better success in their public acceptance in SD than Sib does. Sarcasm being the lowest form of wit barely rates higher than the groin kickers.

  13. larry kurtz 2014.10.28

Less is more on today than usual.

  14. Les 2014.10.28

Thanks, "Lar". It's well known nither of us is purist in any form and for that most are thankful.

    Les, memorize this:

"Ridicule is the only weapon which can be used against unintelligible propositions. Ideas must be distinct before reason can act upon them."

Lynn, you are proving exactly why no one on the other side of the coin comes to this blog. Do you feel good about yourself when you make statements like this to people? Are you sure you weren't the one bullying others at the christian school and they were just acting back against you?

  17. Roger Cornelius 2014.10.28

Hey Sibson, how are things on the Mount? Write any new commandments today?

  18. Lynn 2014.10.28

Good grief! Sibby, Angelo and now Daniel.

  19. jerry 2014.10.28

Indeed Lynn, Daniel is a little out there for sure. I guess he wants you to notice him with much gnarling and mashing of his teeth. Fellers do that sometime on the playground.

  20. Lynn 2014.10.28

Jerry I just checked the history of Daniel's posts on this blog and they are very similar to Sibby and Angelo posts.

  21. Les 2014.10.28

Ur turn Daniel. Unintelligible by whose standard, Tomaas? Dementia in various forms often prevents reason to act upon an idear.

  22. Les 2014.10.28

Good grief, Lynn. Winning here isn't winning. Results in November.

  23. Steve Sibson 2014.10.28

"Daniel's posts on this blog and they are very similar to Sibby and Angelo posts."

All you liberal posts sound the same too, so what's your point? Typical Neo-Marxism to group people and promote hate between the groups.

  24. leslie 2014.10.28

yer shoe is untied! (runs away)

quit wasting everybody's time. learn how to make your specific point, efficiently, honestly, without discrimination.

  25. Douglas Wiken 2014.10.28

Bill, the quote from Jefferson is really interesting and simply profound in a way. A dishonest writer who cares little for logic and consistency can spin a few words into a conspiracy or some other irrational conclusion in just a few words. Shredding the nonsense rationally can take pages for documentation, etc. Most of the SD GOP ads are in this kind of dishonest irrationality category.

  26. Bill Fleming 2014.10.28

Agreed, Doug. Confusion, obfuscation and distraction are oftentimes a troubled campaign's best friends.

In the trade it is sometimes stated thus: "If you can't dazzle 'em with brilliance, baffle 'em with bullish*t."

Whatever it takes to put them back in control of the argument.

Especially effective when the audience to be influenced is only half-awake.

  27. Steve Sibson 2014.10.28

So Bill, does it make sense to send tar sand oil via train instead of a pipeline?

  28. larry kurtz 2014.10.28

Railbit is far less flammable than dilbit is.

  29. Roger Cornelius 2014.10.28

    Daniel,
There is one thing you can count on, Republicans visit Madville everyday, they may not comment on any threads knowing that their insanity will be taken to task.
Over on the Dump Site anyone challenging the Powers to be is deleted and there are frequent comments about what that liberal Cory has written today.

  30. Roger Cornelius 2014.10.28

If Canada wants to sell tar sands to Communist Chinese, they can find another way.
Anybody supporting Keystone XL knowing that it will in no way help American energy has strong Communist leanings.

  31. Bill Fleming 2014.10.28

What the hell does tar sands have to do with ERCC falsely accusing Tyler on the abortion issue in order to punish her for pushing hard on the EB-5 scandal? Let's talk about that some other time, okay Sibby?

    Focus, brothers, focus.

(This is what always happens. We go off on a tangent and a really good topic turns into a stoopid spitball fight. I apologise for the role I played in the distraction. Mea maxima culpa.)

  32. Steve Sibson 2014.10.28

Bill, you make a funny bear when poked.

  33. Steve Sibson 2014.10.28

"She shows Democrats that when the negative ads come, you hit right back"

Cory, you just put up a post saying Weiland is wrong for asking the negatives to stop. So pick a lane.

  34. larry kurtz 2014.10.28

    crackpot loose on information superhighway.

  35. Bill Fleming 2014.10.28

Steve, that comment doesn't make any sense. Cory is arguing in favor of negative messaging when necessary. Especially in self-defense.

Come on, admit it, you just wanted to use "pick a lane" to see if you could get Kurtz's goat. LOL

  36. Jane 2014.10.28

Steve's fav callout "neo-marxism". EB-5 corruption is simply that. Corruption. Does not have to be partisan. It just so happens that the overtly obvious suspects happened to be running under a particular party. And then that party that those suspected belong to deny wrong doing based on their party position, this became a party based issue. Had that party said, hey these folks may have commited wrong, lets get to the truth. Then let justice prevail.
But i hear you, Tyler poured salt on the wound. Finally, someone had the balls to stand up and speak up.

  37. Rorschach 2014.10.28

That's a great postcard! Hope she's back to poke the bear for another 2 years.

  38. Deb Geelsdottir 2014.10.28

That is a great postcard. I like Tyler better all the time.

Bill, this is not a major quibble, but still . . . "Focus, brothers, focus." Um, hello? Deb, Lynn, Jana, Jenny, JeniW, even Anne Beal!

    "Focus, sisters and brothers, focus."
And I agree totally with your point.

    I'm done.

  39. Bill Fleming 2014.10.29

Ha! Deb, I was just talking to those of us boys who were about to get stuck in the muck punching Sibby's tar baby. But point taken. :-)

  40. Lynn 2014.10.29

Focus! Breath in breath out! Eye of the Tiger! Nov 4th :)

  41. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.10.29

    Amen, brothers and sisters!

And at peril of causing someone great moral insult, I read Sibby's comment at the top and think, "South Dakota politics would be much more interesting, honest, and fun if the major axis of contention ran between Kathy Tyler Democrats and Steve Sibson Republicans."

  42. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.10.29

Deb, I think you are quite clearly a Kathy Tyler Democrat... or is Tyler a Deb Geelsdottir Democrat? Either way, I want more of that attitude in South Dakota politics!

  43. leslie 2014.10.29

IT TAKES A TYLER-see NPR today-"liars' poker" book review-too big to fail financial institutions intentionally too complex to police and prosecute by "independent contractors" gaming the system-what's next?- the housing bubble-what really happened.

sound familiar here in SDGOP-joop bollen??

  44. Deb Geelsdottir 2014.10.29

Either way works for me Cory. I want more of that attitude too.
