Hix-DiSanto Says SDGOP “Out of Touch” with South Dakota

Here's our Sunday syllogism, courtesy of word salad gourmet and Republican candidate for District 35 House Lynne Hix-DiSanto:

  1. Hix-DiSanto tells the Rapid City Journal that "Government is out of touch with its people."
  2. South Dakota government, including the Legislative branch in which Hix-DiSanto seeks a seat, is dominated by Republicans and has been for decades.
  3. Hix-DiSanto must believes that her South Dakota Republican Party is out of touch with South Dakotans.
  4. Ergo, Hix-DiSanto is telling voters to vote for Democrats.

Thank you for that endorsement, Lynne! Carry on!

The SDGOP thrives at staying out of touch. If voters fully realized how behave in office they'd throw the bums out. Democrats need to do more education of South Dakota voters. They've got a growing body of evidence for the next few elections.

I seriously do not understand what Lynne is trying to say. If she says the gov't is out of touch with its people. and she is running to be part of a group out of touch with the "people" why is she doing that?
She claims to be deeply involved in the education of SD youth, however two weeks ago there was an article about teachers' pay nationwide. SD had the distinction of having the lowest teacher pay in the nation. I asked her what she thought of that and waited for 48 yrs for a replay, Nada. I asked again and was more forceful this time, esp since during that time lapse she had posted items about teenagers rolling their eyes at parents, things about dieting and photos of herself in various poses. This time she got one of her minions to reply, telling me that I was full of feminist rhetoric that SD women were not interested in. Also that SD women were not having a problem with less pay for more work. Lynne stayed out of the fracas, but I found it droll that one of her minions said California should break off of the West Coast and free float toward North Korea, and could be broken into pcs. and sold to the North Koreans to help pay the debt off that we incurred. Never mind that we are a state that gives a good deal more money to the feds thant we receive back, and SD is one of the biggest recipients of Fed money. Oh those pesky little facts, oh those pesky things like knowledge. Lastly Lynne never had anything to do with the outdoors till she married her current husband, who is an avid outdoorsman.

    Beverly,

It sounds like Lynne is saying anything to just get elected or when it comes to true action to back up those words meaning nothing will be done or if something does happen it is simply symbolic without any real far reaching and long term impact. Jeez! Sure sounds like at least one other SDGOP candidate for the legislature touting how they can represent all including Democrats.

All image and slogans, right, Beverly? Just like the modeling business she runs....

Mr. Heidlberger, as usual is taking Lynne's comments completely out of context. When Lynne says government is out of touch with the people she is referring to the Federal Government. Secondly, I've known Lynne for years and I have never heard her tell anyone to vote for a democrat, that is a blatant lie(which is pretty normal for this website) and a complete misrepresentation. Lynne is a Republican in the purest sense of the word and will work in Pierre to support and represent her constituents and the constitution of the State of South Dakota and the United States of America.

Want to list some examples sanityseeker?

Sanityseeker, do you know what a syllogism is? To refute Cory you have to follow his logic chain and see if you can find any weakness in it as he builds the argument to its inescapable rational conclusion. If you can't then you must accept the veracity of his proposition. What Cory's doing is called reasoning. Give it a shot! You might just find the sanity you're seeking.

  9. sanityseeker 2014.11.02

The weakness lies in the assumption that she meant the SDGOP which she never mentioned in the entire interview Heidlberger is talking about. His whole logic chain relies upon that assumption.

    "SanitySeeker":

    (1) Check your e-mail. If you're going to use my name, I at least get to know yours.

    (2) I don't assume she meant the SDGOP. She said the word "government." I start my syllogism with that statement and quote it accurately.

    (3) Context: I quote the candidate in the context of responses to questions about her run for Legislature. It is logical to assume that she is talking about the government she is attempting to become a part of, not some other entity.

    (4) What Bill said.

    (5) What Owen said. (Indeed, if you're going to call me a liar, you'd better be ready to give examples. This blog post is not an example.)

  12. Deb Geelsdottir 2014.11.02

To be fair, my sisters and brothers of Madville, Sanityseeker defines himself as "seeking" sanity. He doesn't say he "has" it.

  13. Bill Fleming 2014.11.03

Interesting dodge. Sanityseeker assumes falsely that Cory thinks the generic word 'government' means the SDGOP, and proceeds to discount his reasoned argument from that ridiculously absurd premise, even going so far as to call him a liar.

Sanityseeker, you lose straight out of the gate. If Lynne didn't really believe that government is out of touch with it's people we have to assume that Cory's whole reasoning chain starts with a lie. Lynne's lie.

That leaves us with two possible conclusions.

    1. Lynne was lying.
    2. If Lynne wasn't lying, she was recommending voting for the democrats.

Interestingly, if, as you suggest, Lynne was actually lying about Government being out of touch in the context of her own race, that's really all we need to know about her, isn't it.

Why would we want to vote for a liar who doesn't trust government? Seems like that would be the best way to get a 'government that is out of touch with its people'.

At best then, Lynne's proposition is a self-fulfilling prophesy.

  14. Bill Fleming 2014.11.03

Summing up... electing people who don't believe in government to run the government is irrational. It's the equivalent of going into a vegan restaurant and ordering a pork chop. Or appointing an atheist Pope. All you'll ever get out of it is disappointment. Why this isn't obvious is one of the great abiding mysteries of a South Dakota politics.

Hee hee, Deb! I'll be happy to provide our new friend (who needs to check her/his e-mail) with all the sanity she/he can handle. My hand is out, wide open, for the friend who would take it!
