Bosworth Lawyer Backed Democrats in House and Senate Races

In political trivia, Democrat Corinna Robinson netted a meager $3,765 in the final two weeks of her Congressional campaign.

Robinson received 6.6% of that couch-cushion change from her Rapid City neighbor Robert Van Norman, who donated $250 on October 17.

That amount really is couch-cushion change for Van Norman. On August 21 and September 11, Van Norman's law firm received $50,000 from the Senate campaign fund of Annette Bosworth to represent the fake and failed GOP primary candidate in her February perjury trial.

We may conclude that Van Norman is a chivalrous gentleman, willing to help damsels in the greatest distress.

While Bosworth was pretending to witness signatures from Hutterites, Van Norman was supporting Rick Weiland for Senate. On March 14, Van Norman sent the Weiland campaign $1,000.

Like you I can only speculate. I speculate that Mr. Van Norman is a lecherous old fellow, and I would buy him a beer if he comes to town just to hear his stories.

  2. larry kurtz 2014.12.04

What's the mystery? When Bosworth realized she had been had by Lederman and Arends she sought counsel from the other camp.

  3. grudznick 2014.12.04

That young Dr. Bos is a sharp cookie, init?

  4. Deb Geelsdottir 2014.12.04

I haven't heard anything about Robert Van Norman for 20+ years. In the 1990s he brought successful lawsuits against child molesters. Therefore, Van Norman has my support.

  5. grudznick 2014.12.04

As I said, Ms. Geelsdottir, I have no doubt the fellow has some pretty good stories.

  6. Bill Fleming 2014.12.04

VanNorman was Bob Newland's attorney when he had his um... problem. Great guy.

  7. larry kurtz 2014.12.04

Related to Bill Walsh if memory serves: right, Bill?

  8. Bill Fleming 2014.12.04

    I don't know if they're related, Larry.

  9. grudznick 2014.12.04

Yes, part of what I meant was the great stories Mr. Van Norman could share. I bet you he's down in Springs right now, bathing in the mineral baths.

Van Norman worked for Newland? Wow! Lawyering gives a guy a chance to meet all sorts of interesting people. :-)

  11. Bill Fleming 2014.12.05

Seems like VanNorman is the only guy so far who can convince The Boz its a good idea to pay her bills ;-)

  12. tara volesky 2014.12.05

Maybe her Republican establishment campaign team will be called as witnesses to explain how they managed her money.

  13. JeniW 2014.12.05

Tara, are you implying that Annette's team embezzled, or re-directed her funds to prevent her from paying toward her debts?

  14. leslie 2014.12.05

as a defense lawyer i represented every swingin druggster and dealer in the area...not so interesting. sad really.

as james taylor said, addiction and abuse are just a big waste of time. as a musician, i played w/ alot of 'em,...it was like working for a carnival...not so glamorous. as a parent and spouse, living with it is like working against someone 180 degrees, 24/7, 365 a year.

why we keep wasting huge, huge money, resources, lives rather than effectively medically treating this disease, instead of legalizing the chief "gate-way" is beyond me? capitalism. keeping the masses quiet?

ft./pierre's legislative bar scene will be a pot bar scene one day. that'll sure help. we can watch D.C. gasp.

    can't wait for MADD&Drugged Drivers (MADD&DD)!!
really mad?! sorry for the early rant.

  15. tara volesky 2014.12.05

JeniW, I guess we'll find out at her jury trial won't we. because she sure as hell doesn't have any money. Maybe Cory can track where all the money went. In fact, I am sure he will be subpoenaed. Ready for prime time Cory. KCPO was possibly willing to televise the trial but people need to call Midco and tell them not to take KCPO off the air. We want to watch the trial.

  16. leslie 2014.12.05

there wont be a trial, but cory would certainly learn a lesson about unnecessarily poking lawyers.

  17. Bill Fleming 2014.12.05

Leslie, I agree with you about drug abuse and the need for effective treatment programs. The best argument I know of for legalizing drugs is to put the horrific, inhuman, corrupt black market for them out of business. Mexico's problems are a case in point. Some countries economies and politics are almost exclusively controlled by the illicit drug trade, and millions of innocents are suffering and dying because of it.

  18. tara volesky 2014.12.05

Agree 100% Bill. Addiction should be treated as a medical problem instead of criminal. Face it together is a wonderful organization started by Kevin Kirby that helps people with addiction problems. Addiction also affects, families, businesses and communities. People should not be stigmatized and thrown in jail for smoking a joint. Nobody got arrested and sent off to some boot camp for smoking pot in the school parking lot during lunch hour when I was in HS.

  19. tara volesky 2014.12.05

Leslie, I don't think Bosworth will settle, even if it is a small fine. She wants people to know the truth. I think all of these people, former employees, Steve Hildebrand, Steve Hickey, Joel Arends, Senator Lederman, Patrick Davis, and Cory Heidelberger need to take the oath and testify in front of a jury.

  20. JeniW 2014.12.05

People do not necessarily have to be addicts for recreational drug use to cause a heap of damage.

Someone who is drunk or buzzed the for the first time can just as easily beat the crap out of someone as someone who is addicted, or injure or kill someone in a vehicle crash.

  21. tara volesky 2014.12.05

I think alcohol is worse than marijuana. Alcohol can bring out your demons and like, JeniW said cause a person to beat the crap out of someone or kill someone in a vehicle crash, where as pot usually makes you happy and hungry.

  22. JeniW 2014.12.05

I would not sing praises for pot either. Pot made my brother dopey, stupid, and added to his being overweight. He even admitted that it affected his short-term memory, and judgement.

  23. Bill Fleming 2014.12.05

LOL, don't even get me started on what the "worst drug" and "addiction" is.
Once upon a time, the European continent became addicted to sugar, and it was such a profound hook, it started the African slave trade. We are still reeling from the consequences and are rapidly becoming an obese nation with rampant metabolic disorder, diabetes, and heart disease. And what's even more wild? ... almost none of us even know we're addicts. ;-)

  24. tara volesky 2014.12.05

If you have addiction tendencies, almost anything can be bad for you, especially sugar.

  25. JeniW 2014.12.05

Since we know that recreational drugs, including sugar, caffeine, nicotine, pot, meth, etc. do so much damage, why in the world are we condoning and encouraging their use?

Before women were allowed to consume alcohol, they were able to use mail order drugs to reduce pain for recreational use.

  26. tara volesky 2014.12.05

Then move to Utah, join the LDS church and you will have other problems. Porn and suicide.

  27. JeniW 2014.12.05

No, Tara, that does not cut it. Telling me to move to Utah is an insult.

My mother was a member of the LDS church, and I know very well about their beliefs and restrictions. I choice not to join the LDS because like the Catholics, women are not "good enough."

What I have been, and am, protesting is the encouraging and condoning the use of any kind of recreational drug, but very little effort is used to discourage the use of recreational drugs.

There is that commercial to discourage tobacco use that goes something like, "the tobacco industry does not care if your teeth turn yellow, or that you stink..." Why not have commercials that go something like "the alcohol industry does not care if you damage your liver, or say and do stupid things..." or "the food industry does not care if you become fat, or damage your heart from eating fried food.....

  28. Bill Fleming 2014.12.05

JeniW as you no doubt suspect, when it comes to addiction, "addiction" is its own "why." It's like the Gollum's ring. "The precious. We wants it. We needs it. Can't let those Hobbitses takes it from us." Plus, yeah, capitalism... there's that. :-)

Pretty far off topic, now... sorry for the distraction, Cory.

...actually, maybe not. According to Kurtz, if the Dems put legalizing the hemp family species on the platform, they would get a big uptick in the youth vote. Plus, who knows, maybe even some additional and signifcant financial support.

  29. tara volesky 2014.12.05

JeniW, you missed my point. All I am saying is addiction does not discriminate. I used the Mormons as an example because there church is against addictive substances, but Christian organizations are no more immune than anybody else. Lighten up girl. I am very well acquainted with the Mormons, had to take 14 hours of religion. My alma mater is BYU...........go Cougars!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As a women, they treated me with great respect. Not all Mormons are like you think they are. Sorry you feel that way, but I never felt that I was not good enough. It would be hard to live the Mormon words of wisdom, that is why from my previous post I should have stated...if you live in Utah instead of... move to Utah. I have always had a problem with political correctness. Sorry if I offended you.

I am not sure I see the benefit of pointing out Van Norman's contributions to Democrat candidates, simply because he has accepted a non-Democrat as a client. Doing so could discourage other attorneys from contributing to Democrat candidates in the future by the implicit threat that they might be publicly considered hypocrites if they accept a high profile non-Democrat as a client.

And this implication makes about as much sense as an implication that leslie was a hypocrite because he represented people charged with drug crimes even though he apparently agrees with the laws criminalizing the use of drugs.

  31. tara volesky 2014.12.05

Van Norman needs to be commended. If the democrats were smart they would get behind him for fighting for the little guy and social and economic justice. I predict the AG is going to end up with egg on his face. It is beyond me how severely timid and scared the Democrat party has become. How many hundreds of thousands of dollars has the AG office spent over the last 5 years trying to destroy a nonconforming DR? They like to throw our money are knocking out people who speak out.

  32. lesliengland 2014.12.05

well stated bcb, same reason we didn't have a taker for the AG's race, I would assume. dangerous for one's career in a state whose lawyers like to have their bread buttered.

apparently is a funny word, though.
