SB 43 Writes Health Care Reform into SD Law

Last updated on 2011.01.09

As we wait for John Boehner and the GOP to decide it's o.k. to resume yelling about socialism and the "total destruction of our constitutional republic" that they must undo by repealing health insurance reform, the South Dakota Legislature faces Senate Bill 43, which would write into South Dakota law two of the improvements Kristi Noem et al. would annul:

  • Letting young people up to age 26 hang on to health coverage under their parents' policies.
  • Eliminating pre-existing condition exclusions and lmits for anyone under 19.

Go ahead, Kristi. Vote to take those benefits away.

Far from Pierre, Representative Noem is already racking up hard-to-explain votes. In complete contradiction of the openness and accountability the GOP majority wants to promote, Noem's fourth vote allows her and her Republican colleagues to keep secret whether they are accepting government health care while taking coverage away from millions of regular Americans.

Some faithful Republicans have declared they will reject federal health benefits, even at possibly significant personal sacrifice. Still no word from Noem on whether she'll join her fellow freshmen in intellectual consistency. Come clean, Kristi: are we paying for your family's health care or not?

p.s.: Rep. Kristi Noem's website appears to use Drupal. Drupal?! Cool! But isn't that the same socialist open-source software the Obama White House is using?
