Rep. Stricherz Digs Web Openness, Starts Legislative Blog

Last updated on 2011.01.19

My own District 8 Senator Russell Olson still won't let me follow his Majority Leader Twitter feed. Fine. Poop on him. Who needs 140-character doses of GOP spin when I can get full blog interactivity from District 8's other Republican legislator, Representative Patricia Stricherz?

Yes, my Winfred neighbor has launched her own legislative blog, Voice for the People. Rep. Stricherz opens with a reaction to Governor Daugaard's budget proposal. It's not great prose, but a free blog beats Senator Olson's bloated PDF updates.

Rep. Stricherz includes in this first post from Pierre an invitation to all citizens to (I really am quoting her) "post questions, comments or insults." I won't exhort anyone to toss insults, but I certainly encourage my fellow District 8 citizens to take advantage of Rep. Stricherz's new experiment in an ongoing crackerbarrel. I also hope Rep. Stricherz finds the blog is a great way to keep local voters informed more frequently than the normal weekly (and non-interactive) updates we get in the newspaper.

You know, if anyone else is worried about the cost of Governor Daugaard's trip around the state to convince us his budget proposal isn't social hari-kari, maybe that anyone could persuade the governor to start a blog instead. Lots cheaper, and easier for everyone to access than a few brief visits to various Chambers of Commerce. Just don't let Senator Olson moderate the comment section; he'll probably block me there, too. ;-)
