Governor Daugaard Makes Subtle Appeal for Lake-Blog Support

Remember way back in June, right after his unexpectedly big primary victory, when candidate Dennis Daugaard just wanted to "go to the lake"?

From the looks of the promptly updated state website, Governor Dennis Daugaard is still there (see header; click to embiggen!):

I suppose a snarkier blogger might liken this opening banner to hanging a Gone Fishin' sign on the first day at work. But not I. As a lake resident, I wouldn't mind seeing Daugaard rebrand South Dakota as the new Land o' Lakes. Maybe it's the opening shot in a concerted renaissance of the great South Dakota--Minnesota feud! Bring it on!

By the way: permit me to plagiarize South Dakota Magazine and ask, Whereizzit? Who can name that lake? Is it Madison? Poinsett? Where's Denny's favorite fishing spot? (No prize but praise and the satisfaction of that curious itch!)

I also note with interest that Daugaard's designers go Rockwell---not Norman, but font. Check out those punchy slab serifs... but oooh, that bold shadowed text on the menu and H3 headings doesn't read well.

South Dakota will never replace Minnesota as the "Land of Lakes." Maybe we can call ourselves the "Land of Open Spaces," though.
