Some Aberdeen landlord is getting a pretty good deal. We taxpayers are paying rent on office space for Congresswoman Kristi Noem on Main Street (just a couple blocks from the Red Rooster! talk about location!). Yet the poor sap who drew the short straw and has to drive from Noem's main office in Watertown only wears and tears the Aberdeen office for one eighth of the workweek:
Office hours from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday.
I invite my readers to discuss how availability five hours a week and "We apologize for any inconvenience" effectively summarize Kristi Noem's view of how government should work.
What's the big deal with this one? This is not wasteful government spending. The feds waste more money by the second in Washington than the whole year of rent in Aberdeeen.
You're right, Michael. I think Noem should be spending a lot more money and time getting in touch with her constituents in Aberdeen and the rest of South Dakota.
Being open and accessible only five hours a week is about right (unless you're a rich donor or lobbyist, of course; then you have Kristi's ear).
However, "We apologize for any inconvenience" doesn't fit. If government doesn't work, Kristi doesn't care. In fact, that's her goal (inasmuch as she has any goals other than using her position to make herself wealthy).
Makes you kind of wonder why she even has an office in Aberdeen.
What I'm told by people in Aberdeen is that Noem never goes there (thune goes there a lot more) and that her staff is totally unorganized in that part of the state.
I am reminded of Thorstein Veblen's (famous American Economist) office hours. he was so unhelpful and so incomprehensible to many of his students, that his office hours gradually shrunk down to 4:00pm-4:05 pm on Thursdays. Perhaps we will see a reduction in hours after a bit at Ms. Noem's office.
Noem has the GIMP party TEA addendum for reference. What can her office add to the NO, NO, NO of the party so disconnected from reality?
*GIMP: Goofy Irrelevant Mythology Party.
Bonus points to Mike for the Thorstein Veblen reference.
