Occupy Rapid City Making Signs Oct 13 & 14, Gathering Downtown Saturday Noon

The protests against Wall Street plutocracy are spreading to Rapid City this weekend. Occupy Rapid City invites the creative and cranky to come help make signs at Shelter #3, Canyon Lake Park, in Rapid City Thursday and Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. The group then plans a demonstration for high noon on Saturday in the vicinity of the new Main Street Square in Rapid City.

With no official event permit (such free speech and assembly are still controlled by The Man), protesters will defy Pastor Hickey's expectations by not so much occupying downtown Rapid as meandering peaceably around it in innocuous groups of less than ten, carefully avoiding creating any obstruction to streets, sidewalks, or business entrances. Organizers urge participants to "be respectful" of the Bierbörse taking place downtown.

Respectful? Come on, I can think of a lot folks who are mad at the system who can also muster much more than respect for good stout beer. Even Martin Luther appreciated the value of local brew in the midst of upsetting the powers that be.

Update 20:28 MDT: And Barb, Ed, Bob, and other local Teabaggers, before you head down to pick any fights with the Occupants, check out the Venn diagram Leo finds showing the potential Sibbyesque confluence of the two seemingly opposite movements' agendae.

Re: appreciating The Brew, our church organist informs us that J. S. Bach would sneak out of church during the sermon to go to the pub, then return in time to finish playing the organ for the rest of the service.
