Keystone XL Comments Close Tonight! Read Up, Speak Up!

Last call for comments on Keystone XL! The U.S. State Department is taking public comment on TransCanada's proposed tar sands oil pipeline until midnight tonight. Click here to submit your comment online.

As you submit those final comments, consider the following items:

  1. The New York Times has picked up on the story that the final Keystone XL environmental impact study was produced by Cardno Entrix, a private consulting firm with financial ties to TransCanada, "flouting the intent of a federal law meant to ensure an impartial environmental analysis of major projects."
  2. Diana Frost of Norman, Oklahoma, recounts favoritism toward pipeline proponents at the State Department's public hearing on Keystone XL in Norman, Oklahoma, last Friday. No wonder: those hearings were run by Cardio Entrix.
  3. The Center for Biological Diversity has pictures that show TransCanada is already mowing long strips along the proposed pipeline route.
  4. NPR this morning discusses the inflated job claims TransCanada and its shills make. Yes, inflated: Keystone XL may kill more jobs than it creates.
  5. As Bill Clinton points out, Solyndra be darned, the green-jobs sector has produced job growth at twice the rate of the rest of the economy.
  6. The promise of using Canadian oil inclines Governor Dennis Daugaard to support construction of the Hyperion oil refinery in Union County. But remember: Keystone XL won't bring one drop of oil to South Dakota, and what oil we do have will cost more.
  7. And Denny, Lester Brown will tell you we don't need that oil.
  8. Update 11:04 CDT: TransCanada CEO Russ Girling absolutely denies the "ludicrous" suggestion that TransCanada is building Keystone XL for export. Keep that comment on file....
