Michele Bachmann Steals Madville Times Line on Cain’s Devilish Plan

A couple weeks ago, I pointed out the obvious symbolism in Herman Cain's 9-9-9 tax plan. Turn the numbers upside down, and you get a clear signal to fundies that Cain is the Anti-Christ, right? Ha ha ha! What fun! Now back to serious policy discussion...

...but wait. Michele Bachmann took the joke seriously and included it in her debate response to Cain's tax plan:

"When you take the 9-9-9 plan and you turn it upside down," she said with a smile, "I think the devil's in the details" [Beth Marlowe, "Michele Bachmann on 9-9-9 Plan: 'Devil's in the Details,'" Washington Post: PostPolitics Election 2012, 2011.10.11].

Oh my. It makes me queasy to know I can think like Michele Bachmann. It makes me queasier to think that she thinks there are other voters who think like her... and that she is right about that.

    Spooky.

  2. LK 2011.10.12

Apparantly the plan is magically delicious like Lucky Charms--you know full of rainbows, hearts, and clovers--the magical, mystical, Druid like things. It may not be Satanic, but it be from Hogwarts or some other mystical place.
    From http://www.redstate.com/erick/2011/10/11/the-bloomberg-washington-post-debate/

"Herman Cain proved himself a bit of an unstable number two. He is starting to get the tough questions on his 999 plan and his responses sound like they were crafted in the land of unicorns and rainbows — the people will just keep 999 from being changed and we’ll magically alter the structure of the constitution to prevent it from being repealed except by a 2/3′s vote. Um . . . okay!?"

Should read "it may be from Hogwarts"

  4. Bill Fleming 2011.10.12

Suppose Bachmann will be doing her "I'm not a witch, I'm you...."
ad sometime soon, Cory? Around Halloween maybe?

Suppose Bachmann will be doing her “I’m not a witch, I’m you….”
ad sometime soon, Cory? Around Halloween maybe?

That ad didn't work for Christine O'Donnell. Do you think Bachmann would have better luck with it? If she runs it, should she wear a pointed hat?

  6. Steve Sibson 2011.10.12

    Bill,

Why are you not all over Bachman and Cory for being "Judgemental"?

  7. Bill Fleming 2011.10.12

LK, yeah, you're right. Maybe she should go with "Sure I'm a witch, a GOOD witch, and a fairy godmother and stuff..." And maybe get a nice (white) sparkly wand or something. Might at least get her through the GOP primary. Hey, she's gotta do something. She's fading fast.

Do you have a wand yet, Sibby? A cape maybe?
What ARE you doing for Halloween, man?

  9. Bill Fleming 2011.10.12

...maybe Sibby and I can get one of those sticks that Moses's buddy Aaron had that can make water come out of rocks, and turn into a snake.

  10. Steve Sibson 2011.10.12

    Bill,

Why are you not all over Bachman and Cory for being “Judgemental”?

Remember yesterday regarding sluggards who covet.

Bachmann's ad text is more likely to be, "I'm not the devil... but Herman Cain is!" Also expect her to sneak up behind Cain at the next debate and raise two fingers behind his head. Bunny ears... or devil horns?!

  12. Bill Fleming 2011.10.12

Yes! I think you have her pegged, Cory.
Are you channelling her? Or she, you?

  13. caheidelberger Post author | 2011.10.12

Perhaps it's just my enlightened sense of empathy at work, helping me see the world through others' eyes. Or maybe it's just my inner wingnut, bound and gagged by Dennis Kucinich but still alive in the attic, waiting to break out wreak havoc. >-)

  14. Steve Sibson 2011.10.12

'Bachmann’s ad text is more likely to be, “I’m not the devil… but Herman Cain is!”'

Bill, Cory just proved my point on judging, and you are in agreement. Hypocrisy?

And what do you mean by "channelling"?

  15. caheidelberger Post author | 2011.10.12

Steve, for the record, I have no problem with judging the merits of public figures and policies.

  16. Steve Sibson 2011.10.12

Cory, my question is with Bill not you. I already know you judge, that is my point with Bill.

  17. Steve Sibson 2011.10.12

I just received a copy of Walter Martin's, The Kingdom of the Cults". Page 412:

"The New Age movement embraces what has been termed "monistic pantheism," all is one and all is God. Since the movement believes man is divine, as Satan once promised he would be in Eden (Genesis 3:5), the next great event of the dawn of the millenial kingdom. In the Aquarian era, peace, proserity, love, and satisfaction are all within the grasp of those who are willling to exchange biblical revelation for Hindu speculation and the Prince of Life for the Prince of Darkness."

There can be little doubt tha the Aquarian Conspiracy, the rise of the New age Cult, and the Bible have on common denominator: The Bible prophessies that at the end of the ages, false prophets, christs, and teachers will proliferate. proclaiming, "Look, here is the christ!" or "There he is!" (Mathew 24:23 NIV) In the words of the living Christ, "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing" (Luke 4:21)."

This made me think of Bill and Cory, since they seem to have found their common theism...New Age.

  18. caheidelberger Post author | 2011.10.12

Well, Steve, I can't really respond. You accuse me of being part of a conspiracy that doesn't exist fomented by a devil that doesn't exist. You ascribe my every word and deed and political proposal to creeds I either reject or ignore. I guess I'm just an unwitting dupe...

...but I still think I'm funnier, saner, and better for society than Michele Bachmann. :-P

  19. Stan Gibilisco 2011.10.12

Bachmann's right. The details of that 9-9-9 plan really does harbor some demons. Google on the phrase "9-9-9 plan" and learn all about it: The bad, the worse, and the hideous.

It's a gimmick from a guy who really knows how to sell stuff, even stuff that's not good for you like fat, salt, and starch. In fact, I'd say that'd be a good alternative name for his plan, which we might thereby symbolize "F-S-S."

It'll never fly anyhow, just like the fair tax -- which, by the way, Cain wants to implement in the end, if I'm reading him right. Well, Cain and Bachmann share one thing in common: Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

I'm for Romney all the way now.

  20. caheidelberger Post author | 2011.10.13

I'm with you there, Stan. Cain appears to have chosen arbitrary numbers to sound snappy rather than applying real policy analysis to formulating this tax plan. The marketing worked in getting attention, but now that attention will undo him. He didn't think past the snappy name to prepare himself for tough analysis. The media will keep trying to manufacture some drama with the surging candidate of the month... and Romney will march predictably on to the nomination.

  21. caheidelberger Post author | 2011.10.13

Steve, if I understand the context, Bill was speaking very specifically of the judgment God makes of our individual worth (and from what I've heard, we're all pretty worthless). Bill is welcome to correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you're playing fast and loose with the word judge and straining the point.

  22. Steve Sibson 2011.10.13

    "I’m just an unwitting dupe…"

"I’m for Romney all the way now."

    "I’m with you there, Stan."

    Cory,

Read "Romney Christian or Cultist?", written by a former Mormon and see how you and most everyone else is being duped into jumping on the back of the beast...the real devil. And it is Bill who is "playing fast and loose with the word judge". How are we to protect to weak form the sicked if we don't first determine, what is wicked? Again, read this for one answer:

Cory, yes, mostly I'm pointing to the fact that Sibby doesn't seem to follow his own rules.

And it does get a little annoying when he presumes you and I adhere to the same dogma he does.

Most of the time he's playing solitaire while you and are out looking at sunsets and doing breathing exercises. Then he accuses us of cheating at a game we're not even playing while dealing himself a few cards off the bottom of the deck.

But then, that's Sibby. Gotta love him.
