Arts Boost Pine Ridge; Native Takes Lead on Central HS Stage

Our Native American neighbors post a couple of positive cultural notes this week:

The Red Cloud Indian School's Heritage Center has received a $110,000 grant from ArtPlace, a collaboration of the federal government and private foundations promoting the arts as a vital tool in community revitalization. National Endowment for the Arts boss Rocco Landesman visited Pine Ridge yesterday to see the work of local artists benefiting from the grant; the chairman leads a panel on "creative placemaking" at the Dahl Arts Center in Rapid City this morning.

Hmm... if Pine Ridge and Rapid City can benefit from creative placemaking, why not Madison? Let's learn more from a similar panel Landesman hosted this summer:

Meanwhile, Rapid City Central student Micah Roubideaux is playing "The Chief" in Cobbler Drama's production of One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest. Roubideaux is the first Native American to play a lead role on the Central stage in nearly twenty years. One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest opens tonight at 7:30 p.m. and runs through Saturday.
