The [press] release said Noem, who is up for re-election this year, will visit "Mitchell coffee shops" beginning at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, and will tour the Boyds' Gunstock plant near Mitchell at 1:45 p.m. Thursday [staff, "Noem to Visit Mitchell on Thursday," Mitchell Daily Republic, 2012.01.04].
I guess you can try to stake Noem out at the gunstock plant, though heaven knows if you're hanging around private property like that, someone might mistake you for Occupy Mitchell and start singing Lee Greenwood at you. So instead, you should do the sensible thing and drive around all the places that sell coffee in Mitchell from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. hoping to spot a lady with cowboy boots getting out of an SUV with Hamlin County (#32!) license plates.
But we should be grateful for even this much notice from our incumbent Princess. She hasn't posted any notice of a public meeting on her official website since August 30. It's almost as if she doesn't want to have people show up to ask her questions about her vote to raise your taxes by $1000....
Meanwhile, one Democrat who wants Noem's job, Matt Varilek, says his campaign raised over $103,000 in December.
Perhaps KN plans on getting her coffee at the drive thru.

This is wholly inaccurate. Noem's position was a one year extention which results in an average reduction in SS contribution of $1,000. The two month extention only translates into an $165 reduction.
I get your opposition to KN is visceral but you do have an obligation to have your facts straight.

Like my dad I'm a proud liberal. I was able to talk to Kristi today and had a very nice conversation with her. Unlike the Teabaggers I can have a civil conversation with someone I disagree with on almost every subject. And Sibby I've read your letters to the editor in the Mitchell Daily Republic over the years and I want to thank you on re-enforcing my liberal beliefs.

Looks like the real question is why does Noem's staff feel the need to play games with constituents. "We'll put the plan in the paper and then we'll put the time on the radio." "Don't expect to look in one place for all the information."
The Dakota War Toilet had a posting of State Senator Todd Schlekeway's public meetings where he posted his 4 DATES, TIMES and LOCATION all in one place on one mailing. Like he wanted people to be able to plan to attend. Noem refuses to hold public meetings where anyone with real problems can attend. This is a totall disgrace of constituents.

I agree Mike on the public meetings. the only reason I was able to go to this was because we are slow at work and I got the time off. There were not many people there and the ones who were there were supporters.

The one thing that people like Kristi fear more is insightful questions. After she gets done talking platitudes, ask her what the intended and unintended consequences would be. The one thing that shows how poorly we have been represented is to have her justify her last year in Congress.

I don't know about special notice Corey. there just wasn't very many people there. the few that were there said hi. A lady that works for Noem actually came up to me and ask if I wangted to talk to Kristi. I said sure. (with a smile).

If I'm a Congressman, and I'm back in South Dakota for a visit at the beginning of an election year, I make sure every public appearance I make gives me the chance to shake hands with as many voters as I can, to look 'em in the eye, listen to their concerns, ask a question or two, clap 'em on the shoulder, and say, "I'll keep bustin' my chops for you. I hope you'll keep me on the job." Those people head back to the office or home or the blogs and say, "Hey, he's a real guy. He listened to me." If I'm in a cafe where there just aren't many people, my staff has failed me and wasted my time.
Your right Corey. Can't announce it at night and not name the meeting place until the morning your coming. Not many people will show up. Remember Tom Daschle? He went to every county every year. He would come to Joe's Cafe in Alexandria and just talk to people. no speeches-he just listened. Thanks to the teabaggers those days seem to be gone.

Did the lady with Noem have short blond hair (I think that's Watertown) or reddish brown hair (runs the Sioux Falls office)? The lady who runs the Sioux Falls office has actually always been really nice an competent and seems like a genuine person. The others I've met tend to be uninterested if you don't have the same position on issues as Noem.
I find it offensive that Noem (who I voted for sadly) won't hold public meetings now that she is in office. I don't expect anyone to be rude to her and I would condemn it. What I want is to be able to ask a question about the issues. Voters are passionate but we shouldn't be rude and being passionate and having a different opinion shouldn't be seen as rude.
Noem is not anywhere near the person Thune is. I talk to Thune whenever I see him about. He's usually the last person to leave a room. I don't get the issue Noem has with visiting people. I couldn't speak to Daschle but I've heard that about him before. (Johnson post brain injury hasn't been accessable either - but maybe he can't)
