Goose, Meet Gander: Missouri Legislators Propose Vasectomy Restrictions

As South Dakota forces women to submit to 72-hour waiting periods and state-mandated propaganda from uncertified "counselors" before obtaining abortions, and as conservatives hyperventilate that requiring health care providers to provide basic health care is really a war on religion, I note with satisfaction HB 1853, introduced in the Missouri House of Representatives by Rep. Stacey Newman:

  1. As used in this section, "vasectomy" means a surgical procedure performed on males in which the vas deferens are cut, tied, cauterized, or otherwise interrupted in such a manner that the semen no longer contains sperm and conception cannot occur.
  2. No vasectomy is authorized or shall be performed in violation of this section. In determining whether a vasectomy is necessary, no regard shall be made to the desire of a man to father children, his economic situation, his age, the number of children he is currently responsible for, or any danger to his wife or partner in the event a child is conceived. A vasectomy shall only be performed to avert the death of the man or avert serious risk of substantial and irreversible physical impairment of a major bodily function of the man. No such condition shall be deemed to exist if it is based on a diagnosis or claim of a mental or emotional condition of the man or that the man will purposefully engage in conduct which he intends to result in his death or in substantial and irreversible physical impairment of a major bodily function.
  3. No vasectomy is authorized or shall be performed unless the vasectomy is performed in a licensed hospital, a licensed ambulatory surgical center, or other health facility licensed by the department of health and senior services.
  4. A vasectomy shall only be performed by a physician licensed under chapter 334.
  5. Any person who performs a vasectomy or any person permitting a vasectomy to be performed on him in violation of this section is guilty of a felony and upon a finding of guilt, shall be sentenced to community service of not less than one thousand forty hours in the field of service to needy families, caring for or counseling abused and neglected children or wayward teens, or performing service to inmates in a jail or correctional institution.

The sponsors of the bill are all women. The male Speaker of the Missouri House has not scheduled HB 1853 for a hearing.

I fully support this bill, although penectomies, inguinal orchiectomies, oophorectomies, tubal ligation, and hysterectomies should be included as well.

This post causes ads to be interesting....if you are looking for "tubal reversal".

Still thinking that they need to add the transpenile invasive ultrasound mandate to the bill along with a 72 hour waiting period and meeting with a "certified" counselor.

So do we know if there is any government money being used to subsidize this procedure?

Oh my. This conversation is making me very uncomfortable. There are just too many people in this country talking about naughty parts!

Are you serious? I'm sure you guys didn't make fun of Hal Wick's bill to require every person to own a gun.

However, I am not averse to require any elective medical procedure (especially if it is non-reversible) to have a second opinion and a waiting period.

    Good for you Troy.

Now when the pickets are set up and people are chanting at you and you are wondering if some idiot is going to blow the place up...let us know how you feel. Oh wait....false equivalency. There's no group organized to humiliate and regulate men.

The Ohio bill made me LOL. As did Troy's response. And Larry, there are lots of "studies" *Proving* all kinds of terrible effects if women, those poor witless ninnies, are *allowed* to manage their own health.

This was one of the funniest quotes from the Ohio legislator:

"We must advocate for the traditional family, protect the sanctity of procreation, and ensure that all men using PDE-5 inhibitors are healthy, stable, and educated about their options — including celibacy as a viable life choice. "

Just as with women, we know such legislation is necessary because men are often so emotional that they just can't think right. So we need to take care of them and keep them safe from themselves.

    Jana, great comments!

Emotional men... indeed! Which gender most often forsakes reason for emotion to commit crime and become the majority population in our penal system? (Hey, just the term penal system ought to tell us something.)

Why not include procedures that tie women's tubes? Or is the intent gender discrimination?

this interested party has recently been eating eggs that are often fertilized: there's about a one-micron diameter dot in the yolk.

    Good tho.
