Young Spearfish Actors Contribute to Local Animal Shelter

Last updated on 2013.04.23

This semester, I directed Spearfish Middle School's first theatrical production in decades. (No one remembers when the last one was.) I decided that, along with teaching the kids the basics of good acting, it wouldn't hurt to include a little community service in our objectives.

So I asked the kids if they'd like to use their box office to do some good around town, and where they'd like to do that good. They said sure. We took free-will donations instead of charging admission...

...and the Western Hills Humane Society got $250 to help out with veterinary bills.

Thank you, Spearfish neighbors, for coming out on a couple of snowy nights to see the kids perform and to drop some money in their bucket. And thank you, my 35 gutsy actors, for putting on a show worth seeing!
