Bill Dithmer gets a promotion today for gracing the comment section with his poetical take on Thursday's Rapid City debate between Rep. Stace Nelson, Annette Bosworth, and Annette's cardboard cut-out of Marion Michael Rounds:
He was standing in the background
Was that worry on his face
Or was it constipation
You know, the sour look of distasteHe didn't move, he didn't speak
No words ever came
It didn't matter what was said
He always looked the sameHe looked to be all business
In an insurance man kind of way
But there was no reassurance
That all would be OKWell Stace said this, and Bos said that
But the crowd they wanted more
He just stood there with his arms crossed
I guess looking at the doorNow he never said one damn thing
But that's something I might like
And you have to admit as politicians go
There never was a man like Cardboard MikeThe Blindman

Thank you, Bill. Your versical ruminations are one more example of how Madville Times readers build the best blog comment section in the South Dakota blogosphere.
yo, bill: peace, love...hope.
That was all kinds of awesome, Blindman!
Very good Bill. Thank you
Maybe the sites poet? Cory, your comment about this being the best comment section of any blog in South Dakota is so true. That is one of the reasons I post here. Posters may get nasty with each other, and defend positions with no real fact or basis in reality, but I have noticed that those who get nastiest with each also agree with each other at times.
Posters here are more like each other than they would care to admit, and no doubt many here will say I'm nuts for thinking this. Thanks Cory and to everyone who posts here on a regular or irregular basis.
Well done Blindman. Your poetry speaks the truth.
Madville is absolutely the best blog, no doubt about it.
It appears to me that I have been black balled by the Rapid City Journal's comment section in both their editorials and news stories. My comments to the Journal are consistent with what I post here.
The Blindman has indedeed out done himself, way big congratulations!!!
Simply thanks to Bill for his thoughtful poems and prose.
It is a thing of beauty. Blindman, will you remember us when you're on stage picking up your Pulitzer?
Tim Poe, may he rest in peace, once upon a time was a Democratic candidate for SD Attorney General. As for campaigning, he said he golfed his way across SD.
He did plant a fir however, it was Poetree.
The part about the AG race is true, the tree part is humbug.
You are quite the poet Bill! Its a great piece and could be well worn by many. I will save it for the do nothings that continue to allow our great state and union to slide.
I'd like to hear more about your Poetree, Doug!
Thank you everyone. I'll admit now that I'm not a poet but that my passion is and has always been song writing and telling stories. Like Jenny said in another thread here, I used to spend a lot of time on a bar stool with an acoustic guitar doing just that.
Having said those things, I find it interesting that late night TV is driven by the funny stuff that happens in politics every single day. A poem, a satirical caricature in writing about a political campaign might not be that far out of my strike zone.
Who knows I might give it another try sometime.
The Blindman
Bill, these kind commenters make clear that your creativity is welcome on the blog.
