Casting about for "fives", the Rapid City Journal this morning posts a list of five music festivals within 15 hours of the Hills. Underground Music Showcase in Denver, WE Fest in Detroit Lakes... yeah, yeah, yeah.
How about a musical 15 minutes from downtown Rapid City? Dr. Kevin Weiland prescribes Rickstock, a festival he's hosting at his place on Lofty Pines Road in the suburban utopia of Piedmont. Musicians will jam on stage from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, August 16. Dr. Weiland says various public interest groups like the Clean Water Alliance and Dakota Rural Action are planning to have booths at Rickstock, so you can get entertained and educated.
Price of admission is a measly nine-dollar donation to Kevin's brother Rick—you know, the guy running for U.S. Senate! With some persuading, Rick may take the stage and deliver amped-up rock versions of his campaign-trail hits. (With additional persuading, maybe we can get Kevin to run for Senator Thune's seat in 2016 and give South Dakota two Weilands in Washington!)
I'll publish more details as they become available, but as it is, Rickstock sounds so fun that I may even be there.
So why drive all the way to Minnesota for crappy country music and mosquito bites? Head to Piedmont for a wild Weiland weekend! Rickstock! August 16! Whoo-hoo!
Update 10:11 MDT: Rick will be playing, along with a host of other great local bands. Rickstock organizer Kevin Weiland sends out this tentative musical roster:
- Singer/songwriter Michael Johnson
- Kenny Putnam
- Groove Daddy
- Michael Reardon
- Scott Grote
- Bob Fahey
- Rick's Take It Back Band!
This sounds like fun, I'm in!
Cory, Kevin is my doctor and he recommended your Madville to me! He is a great guy and this should be a wonderful event.
I would go if I could get a ride and they let me in for free. There is complimentary beer and sausages, right?
grudz,
You offered to buy me breakfast for three weeks if I donated to Democrats that were fighting President Obama's impeachment.
Instead of buying me breakfast, use the money for cab fare and a ticket to Rickstock.
How about coming into the computer age and fix a live stream for those of us that live "way east river." It would be a cheap but fective campaign tool.
Home grown music, with musicians that I already like, and the chance to hear someone actually speak and not hide from the public.
$9 buck, Mr. Dithmer.
I know my friend Mr. C. is just joshin' with me because he knows I can get a cab but would never ever fork over any of my grudznick cash to go to libbie causes.
They should make it be on the internet tv for free because that is what the socialists would do. Drug test the welfare recipients and libbiefest attendees!
Is the Mocheal Johnson the real one, of Bluer than Blue fame?
Yes, Lee. My good friend, Kenny Putnam got him here because he is true "bluer than blue"
Bluer than Blue?! Holy cow, there's Rick's new campaign theme song, for turning South Dakota blue! (Or is it Pressler's? :-) )
I'm excited about this because I'll be in the Hills that weekend! Woo-hoo! I'd love to meet all the Madizens there, even Grudz.
Cory, how can we meet one another there? How about a Madville Times booth? I'm also wondering if there will be a super duper best time to be there. For instance, when Rick is speaking, playing, etc. It sounds like there isn't a schedule like that. Is it more impromptu?
How about a secret Madizen hand shake or code/password? Googly eyes glasses? Face paint?
Humm, I like the googly eyes, we might be mistaken for teabaggers with the facepaint.
If you can spell, you will never be mistaken for teabaggers.
Cory, what is a fitting Madville symbol? A sail? I'm just thinking about something in particular that would help us Madizens spot each other. Maybe we can all carry oars! Or wear one of those captain hats? Or ring a ship's bell? Or, or, or . . . . . . .
Deb, maybe the mouse giving the hawk the finger right before he gets snatched for dinner. Caption could read "The Last Great Act of Defiance". I seen that on a T-shirt someplace.

Tim-from a Teabagger with their compliments. They just cannot spell.
