Holy cow! People are going to pay real money to hear me talk. I'd better work on that speech....
The second TEDx Brookings event—themed "On Fire"—happens Saturday, October 4, at the SDSU Performing Arts Center. Warm-up activities (among other things, yoga!) start at 8 a.m.; speakers go in three sessions, starting with words of welcome at 9:15 and wrapping up at 3:30 p.m. It looks like I'm first out of the chute... because, you know, I'm a morning person!

Just out of curiosity, who's putting on the event? I see on the ticket website that "TedX Brookigns[sic]" is a non-profit, but a quick search of the IRS EO database doesn't show them (spelled correctly or not), nor are they registered as non-profit or charity with the SD Secretary of State's office. Don't mean to pry, mainly just curious.
El Hefe, my friend Scott Meyer is one of the main organizers. He and his brother John founded 9Clouds, which does digital marketing, training, and consulting.

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate the personal touch you have on this blog. I am familiar with 9Clouds and the brothers Meyer and respect the work they do. I just take issue with the fact that TedX Brookings is being touted as a non-profit when I can't find any mention of it. It's probably just a weird quirk of mine from my debate years but I like to find sources for claims like that when they should be readily verifiable. It's really not a big deal, I just don't want people getting the impression that their tickets might be deductible or donations would be.
Herseth-Sandlin has time to do this but no time to help her party in her home state with a few show-ups at campaign events? Really disappointing.
John T., you are entitled to be as disappointed as you want to be, but maybe take two things into consideration, 1. the topic of her presentation is about business not politics. 2. Could it be that her employer has the stipulations that she not be active in politics while she is employed with them? Employers are allowed to have stipulations for, and on, their employees when it comes to being in public.
A former CEO of a non-profit was not allowed to be active in politics beyond being a registered voter and voting. The Board of Directors felt that he needed to stay neutral so as not to risk donors refusing to donate to the organization because they disagree with his political stance.
Employees at at non-profit, particularly those in the management level cannot submit a "letter to the editor" to a local newspaper until it was reviewed first, and that there is no indication anywhere they work for the organization. Plus the letters cannot be to endorse, or be against a candidate for office, or a current office holder. Since I wanted to keep my job, I did not write a letter to the editor about former Gov. Rounds.
3. We have discussed this before. At this time she is, for whatever reason, is not active in the political system. Just because someone has served in an elected office, that does not mean that he/she is required to be active forever. Have you heard or read anything from the Former Mayor Munson since he left office talk/write about the Event Center, the Walmart debates? Are you disappointed because he is no longer active in the topics involving the city?
Jeni is exactly right: until the feds flush Pierre it is a waste of resources to go up against the Governor's Club on their terms.
Stephanie's indifference to her party's declining fortunes is unbecoming. I wish her well at the TedX presentation and am confident that the attendees will be thrilled by it.
I am not sure if Stephanie is even a democrat or even was one in the first place after seeing her behavior in Congress. A blue dog has ticks sometimes so it was probably a good deal that Rick Weiland stepped up to run against the crime boss. I cannot imagine her even having the gumption to bring up the Slaughter House*..er EB-5 to Rounds or pursuing it.
