Democrat Henry Sinkie Seeking Democratic Nomination for U.S. Senate

Ladies and gentlemen, open your imaginations for just a moment, and meet your next United States Senator from South Dakota:

Henry "Joe" Sinkie, Democrat for U.S. Senate
Henry "Joe" Sinkie, Democrat for U.S. Senate

Dang! I thought for a moment that that was my friend Dan Snethen from Colome, or that maybe Rick Weiland had decided to stop shaving and rendezvous up to do the rest of his every-town-in-South-Dakota tour by wagon train.

But no! It's Henry J. Sinkie, owner of the Derby Elk Resort hidden away north of Hill City. An eager reader snapped this pic of Mr. Sinkie seeking signatures for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate at the Black Hills Stock Show in Rapid City on Saturday, February 1. Another reader reports that this Hill City Democrat is the brother of conservative self-employed preacher George Sinkie of Mitchell... which suggests candidate Sinkie can't count on the brotherly support that boosts Rick Weiland.

Candidate Sinkie was distributing flyers with the following text:

FARMER/RANCHER

50 years experience working, owning and operating farms and ranches in both Eastern and Western South Dakota.

SMALL BUSINESS OWNER/OPERATOR

27 years working for and operating small agricultural and resort businesses in South Dakota.

GOVERNMENT EXPERIENCE

7 years as Mid-Dakota Rural Water System Director and 7 years with Buffalo County Highway Department, including 2 years as County Highway Superintendent.

---------------------------------------------

Henry "Joe" Sinkie grew up in Buffalo County, SD and now lives in Hill City, SD. Having connections to both Eastern and Western, SD he will be working and representing ALL of South Dakota.

Issues

Represent South Dakota
Term Limits
Spend 75% of the time in SD
ALL local SD staff
Direct Electronic voting by SD voters on all Major issues

The only issue of great import to South Dakotans listed here (there may be more; my copy of his flyer was cut off as shown above) is direct electronic voting. Perhaps Mr. Sinkie is borrowing from his Black Hills neighbor B. Thomas Marking, who during his 2010 Indy campaign for House advocated online referenda to guide his decision-making in office.

I appreciate statements in favor of more public participation. I also appreciate darn good beards in politics. I look forward to hearing how Sinkie stacks up against Rick Weiland on plutocracy, health care, and campaign finance (both policy and skills)

Mike Verchio is a far bigger threat to South Dakota: should we call Sinkie and urge him to run for the legislature instead, Cory?

  2. Rick 2014.02.03

    The next Dean Sinclair.

    Go Henry!

I think Sinkie might have more fun in the state legislature. Not a bad idea, Larry! Do you know the guy?

Hey, why not? If Mr. Sinkie feels compelled, this is the year! I told the man sitting next to me on the plane this afternoon that I might enter the race (jokingly - no political experience nor desire nor desire to live in DC required so I'm in!)! Everyone else is but this guy has "desire" on me. His heart is probably in the right place!
