Church and state collide, as happy warrior Rep. Rev. Steve Hickey bucks Capitol tradition with a mirthful meld of theology and political optimism:
It's tradition we all wear black today in the Capitol in memory of our bills that have died. I'm not wearing black. My bills all rise again [Rep. Rev. Steve Hickey, Facebook/Twitter post, 2014.02.25].
I guess we Democrats haven't cornered the market on optimism. Carry on, Rep. Hickey!
Steve Hickey is one of about three legislators with whom having a
bowlglass of wine might be fun.Go. Steve. Go!
Oh yeah, Tim Bekalka or Begalka...wondering about your emotional maturity to lash out at Steve so publicly. We here on the blogs are just citizens looking for a voice, you on the other hand should be held to a higher degree of comity and decorum.
Of course I'm just guessing that Pastor Steve is saying "bring it" this deserves a public debate outside of Pierre. To that I repeat...Go. Steve. Go!
Say, isn't it the bad guys who wear black?
And in other news, Begalka spits on Ronald Reagan's 11th commandment.
Oh my! Over at the Interested Party blog, one of our own gives a little more than the Dakota Ministry of Truth on the little rift over dumping the GOP leadership...
Petty Pat sums it up with "Their attacking the cool girl clique...OMG...we must do something!"
And in other news, Chuck Hagel has said there will be another round of base closings in 2017. As South Dakota has a dark vein of anti gay sentiment, do you think that will help or hurt our chances in a military that now respects and recognizes same sex marriage?
Ms. Jana, you should know that i'm nuttier than a free-range fruitcake.
I don't think I'm alone in seeing through that minor imperfection.
I think it would serve a higher purpose if they wore tinfoil dunce caps for wasting taxpayer's monies even bringing so many of these unworkable rags to the public's attention.
Tourism better create more Black Hills jobs if Ellsworth goes away. I can almost feel, hear, and smell the gnashing of teeth west of Kadoka if/when that happens. And it could happen given that we do not play well with DC. Shame on us and shame on the South Dakota Republicans. It is OK to be high and mighty in your party meetings, but it just does not play well across the country.
I have to say this....we lost our Senate Majority Leader in 2004. The man who replaced him is about as effective as a "fart in a wind storm" If we lose EAB, only the people of SD have to blame. Think about this next election and what additional sacrifices we will endure with out a strong voice.
Jana,
You're right, Chuck Hagel is signaling base cut backs, I suspect South Dakota is putting together its dog and pony show to stop the EAFB closing as we talk.
As I recall, we came precariously close to losing Ellswoth the last time around. Kevin is correct, South Dakota arrogance and expectations of federal money will some day slap them in the face.
