After watching the Sioux Falls cracker barrels twice, it was clear the attitude from the legislators responses was that the voters didn't understand and weren't worthy of their time.

Their comments on public voting on critical issues facing the state were centered on rude phone calls and not their stance on people having a voice in their governance.

Many were either too ill informed or lacked courage on issues that they deferred heir time to others rather than admit their own failings as lawmakers.

Some just didn't show up...Arch? Seriously...you can't meet with the people you promised to represent?

South Dakota Newspaper Association...please, for the love of God, take control over these sessions and hold them to high journalistic standards.

Legislators...please for the love of God, don't let the echo chamber of Pierre make you deaf to the voices of the people you allegedly represent.

One more thing legislators...who's ass should you be kissing? If your first thought isn't the people you represent, then just tell us who you are really representing and who's opinion you respect enough to dictate your actions.

    Be honest for a change.

I watched the first part of the Cracker Barrel in the Argus. I'm not really surprised that no one brought up teacher pay, since that's not really an issue with 'pubs and the only dem there that I knew of was Paula Hawks. It's a bunch of grumpy old crotchety white men that are obsessed with religious freedom and the 2nd Amendment. Honestly, I really think SD voters could elect a better bunch of legislators. Sen Deb Peters and Hawks spoke intelligently, and I even give some credit to Hickey, but the rest of them were lecturing the people about pro-life and gun rights. The same old issues every year.

Jenny, what's gone wrong with Sioux Falls? Our largest city should be a bastion of liberal sensibility; instead, we get those guns-and-fetuses Tea Party radicals. Here in Aberdeen, the questioners went brought up tuition freeze, death penalty, SB 166 (Brown's anti-initiative bill, raising signature reqs), gas tax (former legislator Duane Sutton asked if we could go for 3-cent hikes in gas tax instead of 2-cent), Wollmann's veteran definition bill, HJR 1002 (the T-Rex finder pardon), school district pensions and capital outlay, and, in our only bit of Tea Party paranoia, genetic testing.

That's a good bit of the problem Jenny, religious freedom, gun rights and pro-life really aren't issues, they have all been resolved decades ago by the constitution or the courts, these are the distractions republican politicians use to keep those peoples minds off of the real issues. SD voters fall for it hook, line and sinker every time.

Jenny of you changed ole Ernie's accent and a few other of those white guys you'd think we were in ole Miss in 1962. I was looking for Boss Hogg.

At least with the Aberdeen Crackerbarrel the public could ask the legislators directly and followup if need be for clarification from watching the videos.

Cory, maybe Aberdeen is that liberal cesspool republicans are always warning us about? Now, if we could just get them to vote that way. ;-)
