Madison Aerostar Employees Get $1800 Bonus Checks

Last updated on 2011.03.11

How's that for a shot in the economic arm? About 70 workers reporting to the Madison facility on Thursday got $1800 profit-sharing checks from the company. Division VP/GM Lon Stroschien says Aerostar will also start reimbursing employees for membership dues at the Madison Community Center. Only catch: you've got to go work out at least eight times a month... and hey! If the boss is paying, why not!

Employees are getting these perks thanks to you and me and Uncle Sam: Aerostar manufactures the new T-11 parachutes for the United States Army. Hmm... Congresswoman Noem might have a hard time convincing those 7 workers that big government spending is bad for the economy.

Some quick math: 70 checks for $1800 adds up to $126,000. I'd love to see the uptick in receipts at Jubilee, Campbell's, and the Four Corners this week. And just think: the Forward Madison donors could have spent their $2.3 million on similar bonuses for nearly 1300 area workers over the last five years. Pumping that capital into direct bonuses for workers probably would have produced more tangible benefits for the local economy than anything the Lake Area Improvement Corporation has wasted that money on.

Lon Stroschein as Division GM/VP? Is that the same Lon Stroschein that ran in-state outreach for Daschle's last race?

    [CAH: Yes!]

I fondly remember the days of bonuses in the private sector. The joy of taking that envelope home to my wife and 3 small children knowing that I had been rewarded for a job well done. Quite different being a public sector employee...but I do have the memories...as Miley Cyrus would say, "I think it's pretty cool." CAH - I may be the first person on your blog to quote Miley :-)

[CAH: Well, certainly the first person with a doctorate to do so.]
