Memo to DENR: Your Rolodex Is Six Years Overdue for an Update

The Madison City Commission agenda for Monday's meeting includes a nice letter from the South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources announcing Madison's wastewater treatment plant has received an award for running so well. "Only 81 facilities in the state received this award," says natural resources engineering director Kelli D. Buscher. "[Y]ou should be proud of your efforts to protect the natural resources of South Dakota."

Alas, whoever updates the DENR's contact database isn't operating quite as well:

Lettter from SD-DENR to City of Madison, April 25, 2011

DENR addresses this April 25, 2011 letter to Mayor Royce Hueners. The venerable Mayor Hueners left office and this earthly plane in 2005.

But he's still here with us in spirit.

    Cory-
In my dealings with DENR, EPA, DOT, etc, etc, etc...it is not their responsibility to constantly update contact names in their data bases, or Rolodexes. They all have websites that will allow for changes to be made in the contact information for cities, counties, businesses, or individuals. In this case, I would think someone from the city should contact the folks in Pierre and let them know of the name change.
