TransCanada: Leaks Prove Pipeline Safe!

There are faces only a mother can love. Then there are statements only a corporate Newspeaker can believe:

"We've demonstrated we have built a very safe pipeline system because we haven't had a leak on our pipeline," says Terry Cunha, a spokesperson for TransCanada. Apparently "oil releases" at pump stations mean the pipeline is safe [Emma Pullman, "TransCanada Says Their Eleventh Leak Proves Keystone Is Safe," DeSmogBlog, 2011.05.31].

Wow. Failure is success. Black is white.

Another analyst likens TransCanada's pumping station leaks to "new car issues." Pullman much more aptly summarizes TransCanada's leaky record:

I hardly think we can liken environmentally devastating oil spills to car problems. But if my car leaked eleven times in one year, you'd better believe I'd get a refund [Pullman, 2011].

Remember: when Keystone XL wrecks the Ogallala Aquifer, it will be hard to get a refund on the Great Plains' greatest water supply. Maybe we'd better let Pierre and Dakota Dunes flood and save up all that water....

Wow, that doublespeak is something. Does TransCanada's spokestool have enough of a soul left that he's able to cast a shadow or get a reflection in a mirror?

Do we South Dakotans let TransCanada poop all over us for the same reason that we Americans let the Chinese poop all over us?

What reason is that, Stan: that we need the money? Quite possibly (although didn't we just learn that South Dakota is richer than we think?).
