“Down with Public Education!” Brought to You by Public Education

More irony! I know we're not wholly responsible for the content of keyword-based ads that Google and other online advertisers attach to our blog psots. But I enjoyed opening my RSS Reader, clicking on Mr. Woodring's call for scrapping public education, and seeing this ad tacked to the bottom:

Constant Conservative blog post against public education, sponsored by public universityAnti-public education propaganda, brought to you by South Dakota's public university system.

Don't sweat it, Michael: My Google Ads bring me my share of goofy juxtapositions as well. For instance, today I find the Heritage Foundation advertising their "Dirty Spending Secrets" website. I wonder what the Heritage folks would thank of Madison's sales tax kickback....

Plus, Google Ads carry no refutatory weight. The fact that your author bases his argument on an assumption of indoctrination by public educators does. Believe me: if we teachers were half as good at indoctrination as opponents of public education say we are, we'd be more interested in indoctrinating kids into doing their homework. Then we'd brainwash our school boards into paying us doctor's wages. Funny that hasn't happened yet.
