Hats off, gentlemen: Madison businessman and former State Representative Dale Kringen died Friday. Among other achievements, Kringen represented District 8 in Pierre for two terms, from 1993 through 1996 (back when District 8 was Lake, Moody, and a slice of Minnehaha County). Kringen also served the state as director of South Dakota Job Service from 1979 to 1983.
I met Dale in 1992. I know his wife Kitty and her daughter Anne well and offer my condolences.
Politically, Dale epitomized the Chamber of Commerce Republican... and did so in a way that allows me to use that term positively. I don't recall Dale getting exercised over the culture war. He didn't want theocracy or libertarian anarchy; he just wanted to keep government on a reasonable leash so honest businessmen could make some money. He was a reasonable Republican, the kind of which we could use more.
Rev. George Parmeter will lead a memorial service at the Dakota Prairie Playhouse here in Madison on Thursday, June 23, at 3 p.m. Governor Dennis Daugaard has asked for half-mast respects that day.
Hi Cory!! I just received your nice card and note of sympathy. I have been gone for a couple of weeks, visiting Annie and Tom in Michigan, so I am just now catching up with my mail. What a nice tribute to Dale. He would feel very honored to be remembered so kindly by you. Thank you for your kind words and taking the time to write them. Kitty
