Mayor Receives Complaints about Country Club “Economic Development” Loan

Mayor Gene Hexom submits his monthly Mayor's Report to the Madison City Commission Monday night. His report includes some classic Madison euphemism:

Madison Mayor's Report November 2011
Madison Mayor's Report November 2011

"Economic development loan"—hmm... could the Mayor be referring to the zero-interest quarter-million dollar loan the private Madison Country Club has requested from Madison's taxpayers? The redistribution to the rich that Commissioner Nick Abraham calls "criminal" but that Commissioner Karen Lembcke seems to think is a wonderful idea? The subsidy that 87% of my readers oppose?

No wonder Mayor Hexom doesn't use the word "country club" in his report.

I suppose it's possible there is some other "economic development" loan that's drawn public attention and criticism over the past few weeks. If so, if the mayor's report really isn't referencing the country club loan, I welcome those in the know to tell me which other handouts have raised two citizens' hackles. And I would also say to my neighbors that if you haven't contacted the mayor to express your feelings about handing your tax dollars to the country club crowd, you really ought to do so.
