LAIC to Pitch Fleecing Madison Again at Monday City Commission Meeting

Last updated on 2012.01.17

Brace yourselves: Dwaine Chapel will mumble more dispassionate gobbledygook to the Madison City Commission Monday night in the ongoing effort to redistribute wealth from Madison's taxpayers to Madison's business elites. The LAIC exec comes before the commission to pitch Forward Madison II.

The commission agenda doesn't say anything more about Chapel's impending pitch than the one sentence in the paper does. But rest assured, fellow citizens, that big Roman "Two" means twice the excitement:

  • Dwaine Chapel will promise twice the results of the original Forward Madison. Double of nothing is still nothing, and delivering nothing is right up the LAIC's alley.
  • Chapel may have to work twice as hard to get taxpayers to throw their cash his way. The city commission balked at an earlier request for an extra year of funding for Forward Madison. If Dennis Daugaard's thesis that "spending more money for no better results" seeps down to Madison's leaders, the commission may finally demand performance benchmarks from its hapless LAIC, as I have been advocating ever since it became clear no one was holding the LAIC accountable for its use of Forward Madison money.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day be darned, the Madison City Commission meets at 5:30 p.m. Monday at City Hall. Chapel is listed near the top of the agenda, so come early, and bring your questions. I'm sure Mr. Chapel and your elected commissioners will be happy to answer your questions about Forward Madison II. Maybe Chapel will even share with you a copy of his presentation... and if you snag that, do please forward me a copy! I stand ready to serve the public by translating Mr. Chapel's presentation into common English.

Details from tonight's presentation is online at http://www.madisonet.com

Looks like they are saying "job retention" instead of "job creation".

Also looks like they are using many of my arguments for retail development and attracting businesses that appeal to and utilixe DSU graduates. I think our group has made a difference and changed the focus.

From the report, it looks like Dwaine hired a consulting group to "justify" Forward 1. Hillarious!

    Can't wait for Thursday!

Thursday? Is that the LAIC annual meeting?

Thanks for the update, Ashley! If you snagged one of those brochures, I'd love to see a copy! Maybe put a scan up on the MadisonSD Facebook page!
