Brookings Dems Hosting Barth-Varilek House Race Q&A May 23!

The boring, blathering "Bill Clay" fails to launch another meme. Amidst his weekly output (which this week included a mere three posts totaling 152 original words, or the equivalent of what I usually publish before my first bowl of Raisin Bran each morning), the Dakota War College blogger dinged Matt Varilek for not appearing in any candidate forums head-to-head with his opponent Jeff Barth. Living forever in the past, DWC whined, "It appears to me that Matt Varilek is following Tim Johnson's playbook from 2008. No debates."

"Bill Clay" is apparently as good at paying attention as his gal Kristi Noem. Both Barth and Varilek have been making the rounds of Democratic events since winter. Barth and Varilek gave substantial back-to-back speeches at the Meade County Democrats forum on February 10.

And now the Brookings County Democrats are hosting a Q&A with both candidates on Wednesday, May 23, at 7 p.m. at the Brookings Public Library. Esteemed professor emeritus of political science Bob Burns will moderate. Mango Tree Coffee will provide refreshments... though probably not beer for "Bill Clay" to cry in as he struggles to figure out something new to say about the campaign to unseat Kristi Noem.

They've appeared twice together in Brown County.

You must admit that they are particularly pathetic as a duo...

Despite what DWC says they don't do themselves any favors.

No, Mike, I really don't need to admit that, since it's not true. Put either one of them on the stage with Noem, and either can set her spinning.

Barth and Varilek appeared together in Tyndall at a Frank Kloucek soirée way back in January.

Thanks for giving us some publicity. We are excited and honored to host this session. We urge all voters to attend. This ia an opportunity to have your questions answered by the Democratic candidate for U. S. House from South Dakota.

Excited and honored you should be, Mary! An informed electorate thrives on events like the one you Brookings Dems are hosting. An informed electorate will also make Kristi Noem a one-term Congresswoman. Ask hard questions!

Pah. I'm spending three evenings a week in Brookings this summer, and this happens to fall on one of the ones I'm not there! Such is my luck.
