Madison Central Reverses Error, Allows Three Rutland Bus Stops

Once in a while, the Madison Central School Board admits that it was wrong. That happened this week, when they admitted that the busing plan Rutland advocated for its Madison open-enrollers was the best plan after all. This admission comes only after Madison Central used threats and lawyers to demand Rutland limit itself to just one Madison bus stop, then acquiesced to force Rutland to use only two bus stops.

The Madison Central School Board is finally listening to the Rutland School Board's long-standing and consistent position that more bus stops increase student safety. This position was clear to Madison residents as well as Rutland. Now if we could just get the school board to renounce an absurd law and admit that local school districts should have no authority over who travels on public streets, we'd really be making progress.

This law was a step backward and totally inconsiderate of what is in the best interest of the children.

    Totally agree with Stace.
