Colorado Tech: Are You In? Not Any More in Sioux Falls

Colorado Technical "University" is still advertising that classes start on its Sioux Falls campus in five weeks.

But if you're a new student, scratch that:

Students attending Colorado Technical University in Sioux Falls found out Wednesday the school is closing its doors. CTU cites the economy and lower enrollment as their reasons for closing [Jilanne Doom, "Colorado Tech in Sioux Falls Closing," SDPB.org, 2012.11.29].

(Editorial note: If I'm in charge of the newsroom, Ms. Doom gets all business closing stories.)

Funny: CT"U" touts the "'livability' and healthy economy" of Sioux Falls, not mention South Dakota's "breathtaking natural wonders." The only reason I can imagine the economy is hurting CT"U" is that there are enough good jobs and affordable training opportunities at real schools that people don't feel desperate enough to throw their money away at the local diploma.

Colorado Tech says it will stick around through September 2016 to squeeze money out of its current customers. But even if they closed totally right now, Sioux Falls wouldn't much notice:

Sioux Falls Chief of Planning and Zoning Jeffrey Schmitt... says Sioux Falls employment numbers should not be affected too greatly by CTU closing, since most faculty members are part-time [Doom, 2012.11.29].

Hmm... a "university" that insults teachers can't spring the dough to maintain full-time faculty? That certainly makes an impression.
