The Ad About American Farmers That Italian Carmaker Chrysler Should Have Made

Following up on the mythology of the notorious Dodge Super Bowl ad, an eager reader submits this "Pablo Harvey" remake, which more realistically portrays America's farmers:

And don't forget: Dodge is a Chrysler product. Chrysler's majority-owner is Fiat, an Italian company. And to compete with Ford and General Motors, Chrysler will resume production of Jeep vehicles in China, including, most likely, the Jeep Patriot™.

The dig on Chrysler building Jeeps in China. Gratuitous, in my opinion.

Foreign car makers build millions of their cars in the US these days for sale in the North American market. Likewise, it makes financial sense for a car maker to build cars in China for the Chinese market. As Chrysler has stated, they are not going to be building Jeeps in China and shipping them to the US. For Chrysler, this change can be categorized as "expansion" rather than "outsourcing."

And I like this video, just as I liked the other one.

It's not so much a dig on Chrysler, R, as a dig on the faux patriotism the company tries to manipulate into increased purchases. Open the hood on any car, and you'll find global spaghetti. Five of the ten automobiles with the highest percentage of American-made parts are Toyotas and Hondas. Our cars are like our agriculture: the diverse, global reality doesn't match the marketing myth.
