Nelson Challenges Rounds to State Fair Debate

Rep. Stacey Victor Nelson would like Marion Michael Rounds to step back from the New Jersey circuit long enough to have a conversation with him in front of South Dakota voters at the State Fair in Huron:

So far no response from candidate Rounds on whether he'd like to debate his biggest challenger at one of the best South Dakota venues for such political events. Ken Santema would love to see such a debate; how about you, friends and neighbors? Would you like to see Rounds debate Nelson at the State Fair?

Or would you rather see Team Nelson chasing Rounds around the state in chicken suits?

Last year when I went to the fair, NO candidates were available to talk to. They should have spent some of their day at their political headquarters visiting with people.

The last State Fair debate attended had Dauguaard saying our budget was in great shape while the Democratic contender (whose name I cannot remember) thought that all of the state's money woes would be solved by selling our state owned airplanes.

Why not wait until NEXT YEAR and then go hard with a debate schedule starting in March or April? That way the potential candidates can spend their time fleshing out their platforms and we (the voters of SD) won't have to listen to them make promises they can't keep or whining about attacks from the other guy.

Yes, I am cynical. I think most voters are.

why wait? let's see the debate now. What is Rounds afraid of?

Did you go to the same state fair last year as me, Michael Black? Matt Varilek was everywhere around there. If you couldn't find him, you must have been wearing a bag over your head and earplugs.

"The New Jersey circuit" looks like some kind of midget convention to me. I don't know - maybe those guys are dot com millionaires or something.

What in heck is Rounds doing in New Jersey? Did he forget he lives in SD?

I forgot to add, that actually I think it would be much more interesting to see team Nelson chasing Rounds around the state in chicken suits.

Nelson's best strategy: Get the king into the ring.
Rounds' best strategy: Tick, tock. Run down the clock.

Rounds won't show. Nelson can't compete. Neither will say anything with substance. Result? Choose your own answer.

I think Nelson can compete but Rounds wants the entire election to be his coronation. We'll see if voters (and Rounds' opponents) are that dumb.

Bill Fleming offered the best idea.

Nelson doesn't have to play by Mike Rounds' rules and Dickwad Hams' rules. He can hold joint appearances with Weiland and demonstrate to independents, Republicans and Democrats that they will have a real choice on Nov. 4, 2014, with Nelson and Weiland on the general election ballot. Rounds' fear of a real debate will be exposed along with his fat budget spending record and phony conservative happy talk.

Nelson and Weiland can fall for the Rounds rope-a-dope trick, or they can crank up the juice in the 2014 Senate race and invite the public to be part of choosing their new U.S. Senator.
