Booker Deems Thune Most Buff Senator

Posting selfies is not necessarily narcissism. For New Jersey Senator Cory Booker, it's just a fun project to collect photos of himself with every one of his colleagues... and perhaps a way to build cross-partisan comity, just like other social media efforts to bring people of differing views together.

Chek out the love Democrat Booker shares for Republican colleague John Thune with a photo of the two ideological opposites sharing a bench on what looks like the Capitol Subway:

Senator Thune has become a valued colleague and friend who challenges me on issues in constructive ways. He is also hands down in the best shape of all the Senators. 8 years my senior, his work ethic in the Senate gym shames and inspires me to get in better shape. #DudeAreYouSeriouslyLiftingThatMuchWeight [Senator Cory Booker, Instagram post, 2014.07.08]

Talk about shape: Senator Thune, now age 53, has been known to beat a seven-minute-mile pace in long-distance races.

Um ... not that there's something wrong with that?

  2. Loren 2014.07.12

So the gym is where he spends his time when he is not doing a photo-op!

  3. Tim 2014.07.12

Loren, he spends no time doing his job, have to pass the time somehow.

He's gotta be known for something. Yup,all those wasted years in the Senate and he's known as the most buff guy in the greatest deliberative body known to mankind. What is the average IQ of a dumb bell, anyone know?

Doesn't the Speaker of the House smoke?

    I find that unforgivable

  6. mike from iowa 2014.07.12

Boner smokes, drinks and rolls in Cheetos to get that orange look. Last session of Congress there were any number of reports of Boner walking around intoxicated in the halls of Congress.

Ah...The Senate gym, a gift of socialism to buff Republican Senators from the taxpayers. You're welcome, Senator Thune.

  8. Roger Cornelius 2014.07.12

President Obama say to Thune, "Come out of that gym and do something, do stuff".

  9. Tim 2014.07.12

RC, if you think it's bad now, watch what happens if republicans get control of the senate. Two years of nothing but impeachment hearings. The RWNJ's running this state will get their wish.

Where has Dick Wad been hiding in this state thune will soon have his nose you know where.

  11. Douglas Wiken 2014.07.13

Gosh, Thune is buff and some basketball player is returning to Cleveland...or is that the GOP convention.

Much news is just more business about business...and not the people's business.

Here is a funny-business as usual. SOH Boner is suing Obama for acting unilaterally and Texas wingnut A G Gregg A-Butt is gonna sue Obama for not acting unilaterally. A-Butt claims Obama accepted blame for the border crisis but he won't blame wingnut Boner for not allowing immigration bill vote.

  13. Michael B 2014.07.13

There is NOTHING funny about the failure of government to address immigration.

  14. Roger Cornelius 2014.07.13

    Michael B.
You are right, there is NOTHING funny about the failure of government to address immigration.
So why doesn't that Republican elephant get off its big fat ass and work with the president on immigration? Even when the president suggest one the Republicans ideas for immigration reform, they say no.
The Republican Party has absolutely no interest in addressing immigration reform or anything else.

  15. lesliengland 2014.07.13

has the repub party done ANYTHING since clinton's mpeachment?

  16. lesliengland 2014.07.13

well i guess they have. impeaching clinton hampered the missile shots at osama bin ladin by 30 minutes. so 911 occurs under cheny/bush. couple more wars. collapse of world economy. Jan. 2009-repubs, "hey let's obstruct everything!" today- repubs, "hey benghazi, sue obama, outhouse/obama caricature!!!" repubs are very dangerous people.

  17. Michael B 2014.07.14

There is no easy solution to immigration. Period. Exclamation point.

You cannot install guard towers with machine guns all along the border.

What is the most troubling now is the lack of openness about how all of these people are being treated. We were promised transparency. It's not just the reporters that are being blocked from visiting the camps.

  18. mike from iowa 2014.07.14

Rethugs don't dare touch immigration and agree with Obie or the T-baggers will crucify them come election time. These immigrant children are political refugees from messes made by wingnut policies and are to be given asylum as per US and international law. Remember,Cubans only have to reach our land and they are home free. Others have to jump through all kinds of political hoops and will probably be repatriated only to be tortured and/or killed back home.

Senator Thune needs to stay in shape in case the President ever invites him to test his basketball bragging in a winner-take-all one-on-one match to settle the ACA once and for all.
