Iron Eyes: Haber Exploits Indian Children, as Bad as Jackley

Fake Libertarian candidate for attorney general Chad Haber has chosen to exploit American Indian foster children as his primary campaign (fundraising) issue. Even American Indians aren't falling for Haber's latest scam. Chase Iron Eyes, attorney for the Lakota People's Law Project that worked to bring abuses in South Dakota's foster care system to light long before Chad Haber decided he could make money off the issue, says Haber's exploitation of the issue is as bad as any cover-up or corruption of which we might accuse Haber's opponent, Attorney General Marty Jackley:

The articles surrounding the issue recently have tended to focus on Chad Haber and his campaign to unseat Marty Jackley from the Attorney General’s office.

Lakota People’s Law Project believe Jackley and his officers were more interested in covering the tracks of the corrupt DSS than pursuing justice for disempowered and sexually abused children.

The heinousness of this crime cannot be overstated and the fact that it has received little to no press coverage inside or outside of South Dakota is disappointing to say the least.

However, it is equally dismaying to see this unconscionable instance being used as little more than a narrow window of political opportunism by opponents to Jackley who are angling for a high-powered state job.

The Mette case should not be about elections. If Haber is elected, will the illegal practices of the Department of Social Services suddenly cease? Forgive us for our cynicism, but it is doubtful [Chase Iron Eyes, "The Mette Case Is About the Children, Not Elections," that Sioux Falls paper, 2014.08.28].

South Dakota's Lakota people have true allies in the ACLU, the U.S. Department of Justice, and other conscientious actors. They recognize that the attorney general campaign is a sideshow that will do nothing to advance the cause of their children and families.

With this election cycle being the only candidates for AG on the ballot being Jackley and Haber it's too bad we don't have the option to vote none of the above.

I wish Chase Iron Eyes was a resident of South Dakota. Maybe he would make an excellent AG.

  2. JeniW 2014.08.29

I am generally not impressed with many of the Letters to the Editor, but Mr. Iron Eyes is exceptional because of the style and manner that he wrote his letter.

    Very good quality.

  3. Shirley Schwab 2014.08.29

Chase did an excellent job bringing this story back to where the focus must be - and that is on the children.

This story must and will be told but it needs to be done with complete respect to the child sexual abuse victims and it must be told by those who know the facts. Anything less is unacceptable.

It is time that everyone in South Dakota hears the children's story and what criminal acts the State and it's agents committed in their attempt to cover up one of the worst child sexual abuse cases in South Dakota history.

Please be assured the above will happen in the very near future.

The SD Department of Public Safety/Homeland Security is militarized beyond the imaginations of most state residents: ever wonder why? Invasion from Wyoming?

  5. Roger Cornelius 2014.08.29

I am relieved to see Chase's letter and hope that all involved as advocates for ICWA and the children snared in the foster homes money trap will read it.
I have been busy forwarding his letter to as many people as I can to make them aware of Haber's latest money making con.
Chase and Shirley are tireless advocates of Indian children and their collective voices need to be heard.
I ask all on Madville to go on social media and share Cory's report to the public and reach as many people as possible.

  6. Shirley schwab 2014.08.29

    Thank you Roger.

Collectively our voices will be heard.

Although, not related to the Mette case, I have a question regarding children with disabilities who have family who live on the reservations.

Does the reservation provide enough of, and/or useful resources for families who have a child with disabilities in the the family so that the children do not need to leave the reservation to receive the treatment that they need?

Are North American Indian children who have disabilities placed in foster families, or institutional settings off the reservation because there are more resources for children with disabilities off the reservation than what the tribes are able to provide?

I think of the North American Indian children who have FASD who were placed at the Developmental Center in Redfield. I honestly do not know if they are still there or not, hopefully not.

I used to work at the Developmental Center, it was heartbreaking when a North American Indian teenager or young adult asked why she/he could not go home. One individual was so heartbroken thinking that her family did not love her, so that why she was at the Center. I finally told her that she could not go because "I said so." That way she could blame me, be angry at me (which she was,) and not have to think that her family had stopped loving or caring about her.

Are there now enough resources and support systems on the reservations to help children with disabilities and their families?

  8. grudznick 2014.08.29

Jeni, are we worrying about children with disabilities or an entire race of children? I just want to make sure the core of my libbie heart is focused in the right direction.

  9. JeniW 2014.08.29

Either and both, but because the thread is about North American Indian children living in Sioux Dakota, and some had been placed in the care of the Developmental Center, or Children's Care Hospital, that is the basis of my question.

I think too about the children who are taken from their families, what it is it like for them. Do they feel that the family that they love have deserted them?

Just because children are abused, or neglected it does not mean that they do not have emotional attachments to their family members. What was going through the minds of Mette's victims?

A lot of questions, but to keep it narrow, I would like to know if there are more resources and support systems for children with disabilities, and their families who live on the reservations than there was ten years ago so that fewer children with disabilities are taken from their families who live on the reservations?

  10. Tara Volesky 2014.08.30

Can't believe you would vote for Marty Jackley over Chad Haber after what Marty did to Shirley and Brandon. So where is Chad's money coming from? I met Brady Falken's Mom today, who cried for justice for her Son during the 2 debates. Dawn was comfortable staying close to Chad Haber. I talked to her and she seemed very distraught. I did not feel Haber was using Dawn to advance his political career. Somebody needs to talk to Dawn to see if Chad is using her. I really think she is grateful that he is shining a light on her deceased son. Somebody call and talk to her and prove me wrong.

  11. Lynn 2014.08.30

Tara there is no way I'd vote for Chad Haber and wouldn't be surprised if he is charged after the election. I believe his run for AG is just another money making scheme while using victims which is terrible.

  12. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.08.30

Tara, listen to Iron Eyes. He speaks with authority on this issue. Haber is an exploiter, as bad as Jackley. Haber is using the Mette children, Schwab and Taliaferrro, Dawn van Ballegooyen (whose story Mr. Kurtz and that Sioux Falls paper highlighted longer before Haber needed it as a political prop), and everyone else.

Voting for Haber is not a moral option. That leaves those of us who have regularly, consistently, and sternly criticized Jackley in a quandary. At the top, Lynn wishes we could at least add our own option. We can vote "None of the Above" by leaving it blank. We can protest the paucity of choices by writing in a name: South Dakota does not count write-ins, but SDAR 05:02:16:17.01 says that a write-in on the AG line does not invalidate the rest of the ballot. Either a blank or a write-in would depress the vote total for AG and demonstrate the public's dissastisfaction with a choice between a bad AG and an unqualified huckster.

However, leaving the AG line blank or writing in another name and spoiling that portion of our ballots would artificially inflate Haber's vote percentage and the marketing lies he would inevitably use to claim political credibility afterward. Given the turnout from the 2010 election, in which about 300,000 people marked a choice in the Jackley–Volesky AG race, the 10,000 votes that he will get from the inattentive and easily duped would add up to 3.3% for Haber. If we get 100,000 Democrats to leave the Jackley–Haber line blank this year, Haber's margin-of-error 10,000 votes would suddenly add up to 6.7%, making him the largest Libertarian vote-getter by percentage in South Dakota history. That's a small victory for a man who, after this race, will have no credibility or fundraising power left, but I am willing at this point to argue that denying Haber even that win is useful. South Dakotans should reject Haber's exploitative mockery of the political system as firmly as possible. Marty Jackley will win this election; the only practical effect of adding our votes to Jackley's column is to call Haber out, to say to the world, "Chad Haber is this bad; no one should trust him."

We will fix Jackley's wagon by other means. Shutting Haber down hard is worth doing. Vote for Marty Jackley.

  13. JeniW 2014.08.30

I do not like Jackley, and I do not like Chad, due to both of their behaviors.

Chad needs to provide more of what he would bring to the table other than the exposing of Jackley's corruption. Life will go on after Jackley is exposed, and that is what Chad needs to share with us what he skills and talents he would bring to the office.

I could not find a web-site for Chad. All I could see was a Face Book account (which is void of information,) and articles about him.

IMO, Chad needs to get his gear into gear. That is not to say I will vote for him or Jackley, but if Chad wants to win the election, he needs to get it together soon He should not wait until the last moment like he did for changing his voter registration status to start an active campaign.

  14. Barry Smith 2014.08.30

Vote for Marty Jackley- a message approved by Democrats against Marty Jackley.
A unique and disgusting situation, but maybe a lesson on making sure that the slate is full even if the prospects seem hopeless and no resources can be afforded on a campaign.

  15. JeniW 2014.08.30

Barry, how would you force people to campaign for office?

Should I, as a Democrat, offered to campaign for the office of AG, even just as a token candidate?

If I were to campaign as a token candidate would you be there to stop the crap that would no doubt be thrown against me?

  16. Barry Smith 2014.08.30

JeniW--- Chad knows that he has a snowballs chance of winning. He is not going to spend money on this campaign, he is going to make money on it.

  17. JeniW 2014.08.30

I agree Barry, I responded to your comment in what I thought you meant by it.

If you did not mean that a Democrat should be a token candidate for the AG office, I apologize for not understanding your message correctly,

  18. Lynn 2014.08.30

Supposedly Jackley is being set up to be anointed or run for Governor in 2018. Dems can't do anything this election cycle but we can the next regarding Jackley unless something happens in the meantime with this supposed Federal investigation going on.

  19. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.08.30

JeniW, Jackley's corruption has already been exposed. Haber has added no value on that front.

Note that the Facebook page follows his wife's model: repost some memes (and Chad doesn't do this nearly as well as Annette did), and put up a link to harvest contacts for fundraising letters. We'll see a website or two pop up, and Chad and Annette will order their clinic and non-profit employees to lick some envelopes and make some phone calls for the campaign, but we will see no real campaigning in South Dakota or the building of any real grassroots effort. Chad will quietly send out thousands of letters to out-of-state donors begging for money and counting on 1% of them to provide the return on investment that will allow him to buy groceries without doing any real work.

Barry, you're right: the situation is disgusting. My laggardly party has left me in that fix. I don't like it at all, and I may yet swing back to advocating leaving the AG blank. But the only utility I see left in this race is to minimize the percentage Haber receives to further reduce his fundraising capability in the future. Money is his only power, and we must eliminate his power to do evil.

  20. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.08.30

Lynn, how about this justification: we vote to keep Jackley in office so that when the levee breaks (ICWA, NBP/EB-5...), it breaks on him and reduces his chances of running for governor in 2018?

  21. Lynn 2014.08.30

Cory I agree. I plan to reluctantly vote for Jackley to deny Haber any benefit.

  22. Barry Smith 2014.08.30

JeniW 175,000 Democrats in the State , there are more than a few that would thrive on the crap being thrown at them. Democrats have decided to use their resources where they have a chance at winning.

JeniW I was responding to your earlier comment with my second one( notice the time lines on your comment and mine).

  23. Roger Cornelius 2014.08.30

My vote will go to Marty Jackley, it does leave a pit in my stomach however. It is not a requirement that the AG be a practicing attorney, but in a practical sense we need him/her to be one.
We know the corruption of Jackley and the con man Haber, my preference is that Marty be in office when after the election the EB-5 scandal blows up and takes Marty with it.
Should Jackley escape his many scandals and run for governor in 2018, he'll still have the stink of EB-5 on his suit.
If the hopeful scenario plays out and EB-5 takes it toll on Marty while in office, he'll either have to resign or face a recall and our newly elected Democratic Governor Susan Wismer can appoint a Democrat as his replacement.
I'd rather see Jackley's chances of being governor totally and effectively wiped out.
There are too many "ifs" and "shoulds" in my comment, but I'm hopeful

  24. Tara Volesky 2014.08.30

Democrats dropped the ball on fielding a candidate so my vote goes to Chad Haber.

  25. Kal Lis 2014.08.30

I wish South Dakota would allow write-in votes that didn't spoil the whole ballot, but that's not the case, so I'm leaving the AG line blank. Haber is not qualified for the AG's office or any other job in Pierre, public sector or private sector.

Tara is right; the Dems dropped the ball. jackley is going to score a ridiculously easy win against someone whose 15 minutes should have been up long ago.

I don't think there are enough people who will cast a de facto "none of the above" ballot, but the only real message that can be sent in this "race" will be jackley receiving thousands if not tens of thousands fewer votes than the winner of any of the the other constitutional office races.

  26. Roger Cornelius 2014.08.30

We need a 'Democrats For Jackley' Facebook page.

  27. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.08.31

Wait, Kal Lis: SDAR 05:02:16:17.01 seems to say that a write-in on one line does not spoil the other lines. Is there statute that says otherwise, that one stray mark spoils the entire ballot?

Tara, Democrats' failures are no reason to vote for a sociopath. Iron Eyes makes clear that Haber is at best the moral equivalent of Jackley. You need to present a positive reason to vote for Haber. In what way could he do the job better, more faithfully, more morally than Jackley?

  28. Tara Volesky 2014.08.31

If he brings out the injustices that are being done to children, that would give me great reason to vote for him. I want to see him debate Jackley. I believe the Republicans took advantage of Dr. Bosworth to take votes away from Stace Nelson, and than when she started out fundraising Rounds, they got nervous, plus Cory did a hell of a job destroying her. All I will say, if my campaign manager and lawyer told me to sign the petitions, I would do it without reading the fine print. Isn't Joel Arends also associated with the Rounds camp? Just my take on it. It is easy to assassinate a decent person, look what they are doing to Lora Hubbel. If you aren't part of the establishment, you are screwed. It's no different in municipal government. That's why I always support the underdog because they fight for the underdogs. That's why Lora Hubbel was picked to be Mike's running mate. She is treated no different than Chad Haber or Annette Bosworth. But we still chose her because there is nobody else that fights harder against the machine than Lora Hubbel.

  29. mike fro iowa 2014.08.31

Haber isn't fighting for underdogs, unless you consider him and his wife underdogs. He is in this race to make ....wait for it..... MONEY. That appears to be the only concept that will get and hold his attention. He has no chance of winning. If Jackley drops out of the race,Haber still won't win. If everyone in South Dakota died before election day Haber couldn't win. Haber's only marketable skill appears to be avoiding responsibility. How does that qualify him as Attorney General?

  30. Tara Volesky 2014.08.31

I think Iron Eyes better look in his own back yard. He tries to solicit money for his cause. Chad is running for AG and I hope he can raise money because it will just help the Democrats and 3rd party candidates expose corruption. Sociopath is a pretty strong accusation.

  31. Tara Volesky 2014.08.31

Vote for Jackley them. I'll take my chances on Haber.

  32. JeniW 2014.08.31

I have still not read as to what Haber would bring to the AG office other than the tune of exposing the corruption.

Life goes on after the exposure, and there are other legal issues that will need to be dealt with in a timely manner.

Chad's waiting until the last moment to change his registration status has me wondering how long he would procrastinate with dealing with legal issues if he becomes the AG.

How much will we have to pay for consultants for legal issues that he is not familiar with?

  33. Tara Volesky 2014.08.31

Let's cut petty bs and get to the issue CHILDREN! I am calling on Chase Iron Eyes, and Shirley Schwab to host a gubernatorial and attorney general open town hall meeting with the media and expose these atrocities. People that have dealt with ICWA and DSS can ask these candidates straight out how they are going to change the corrupt system and keep these kids safe.

  34. Lynn 2014.08.31

Looks like Chad Haber has an event scheduled Wednesday, September 3 at 5:30pm
    Hillcrest Park in Brookings SD

Might be a good chance to ask questions about Utah, Raffles and everything else.

  35. Tara Volesky 2014.08.31

Let's get it out in the open. Town hall meetings are the way to go. No structure or time limits. The audience gets to engage in the process.

  36. Lynn 2014.08.31

Haber doesn't even have a campaign website stating what he would do as AG. It looks as though it's consistent with a fly by night operation running for AG, Libertarian for a Day and all the other schemes that never were completed and in the process people got burned. Not much access for the public to know much and maybe that is on purpose.

  37. Tara Volesky 2014.08.31

Lynn, I think children are a bigger issue than raffle tickets. Another distraction from the real issues. Talk about Marty's trip to Deer Valley or let's bring up the 300,000 dollars Rounds stole from taxpayers for personal use of the plane. How about the million dollar check Dennis gave to Richard Benda. Instead, let's talk about that public forum Chase and Shirley and however else should organize so we can here all sides of ICWA and DDS. I am sure Susan and Susie will show along with Mike and Lora. I am also counting on Chad to show. Now Roger, you better call your candidate MJ and make sure he shows. And Dennis I am sure will explain to the people all the Native children he has saved.

  38. Lynn 2014.08.31

Tara what is worse than what happened to those children and the family that has been hurt is someone using their tragedy as a vehicle for their own selfish gain.

  39. Tara Volesky 2014.08.31

Lynn, that's why we need a town hall meeting with full press, then you and Roger can focus on websites, raffles petitions, while Doug and Candy Boes can ask Chase, Shirley and the candidates how they think Tribal Judges that have limited education know what's best for their children. And, Dawn B. can ask DD and MJ why her son had to die at the hands of the state. These are just some of the questions that need to be answered. Cory, did you get any information from Doug Boes?

  40. Roger Cornelius 2014.08.31

Generally speaking I'm usually for the underdog in sports and in politics, in South Dakota the Democrats are usually the underdogs. With political underdogs, my requirement for support is that they be qualified and credible, Chad Haber has neither.
Yesterday I spent sometime forwarding this thread to as many individuals, tribal governments and organizations warning them of Chad Haber's con artist history and attempt to exploit Indian children.
Chase Iron Eyes has a legitimate organization that has been fighting for enforcement of ICWA, Shirley Schwab is well known for her advocacy of Indian children, both have the right to solicit public financial support for their activities. There is a clear distinction between the efforts of Iron Eyes and Schwab, and using Indian children to finance a phony political campaign.
Chad Haber For Attorney General Facebook page is sending out the same type irrelevant political memes that Bosworth did. The difference is, the memes are not posted on his profile, they are simply posted on Facebook.
Tara now wants Iron Eyes and Schwab to organize a town hall gubernatorial and attorney general debate on this issue. Tara, if you want a town hall, you, Myers, and Haber organize it, why are you shifting responsibility to Iron Eyes and Schwab for your political exploitation?
And yes, let's talk about the children, the hundreds if not thousands of Indian children that have been removed from their homes and placed in the for profit foster care system.

  41. Tara Volesky 2014.08.31

I just contacted Brady Folken's mother and told her to tell everybody what she thinks of Chad Haber. Chase Iron Eyes and everyone else that thinks Haber is exploiting children need to ask Dawn her opinion of the Thug, Chad Haber.

  42. Lynn 2014.08.31

    Tara,

Chad Haber and Annette Bosworth are toxic in the public eyes and with your continued association with them being a campaign manager for Myers/Hubble it has further hurt what is left of their campaign also. I doubt Susan and Susie or most candidates would share a stage or have anything to do with Haber.

Unfortunately the Myers/Hubble campaign is just a minor sideshow until Nov 4th. About the only entertaining jab and attack Mike made during the State Fair debate was when he stated he would like Denny to put his hand over a bible and Denny replied repeatedly "Bring it on!"

  43. Tara Volesky 2014.08.31

Roger I am shifting it because I want to see if they will publically come forward and tell there stories. Looks like you are trying to make excuses and do a blame game instead of addressing this publically. Come on talk is cheap who wants to be part of this and EXPLOIT what is happening in SD? Any takers? How about the Democrat Party, they are much more powerful than an Independent candidate. I don't care about credit, I care about the kinds and families that are being affected by this. Everybody needs to come together for the cause.

  44. Lynn 2014.08.31

If these victims and I truly feel for them continue to hitch their wagons to Haber/Stranahan then they do so at their own emotional and financial peril. They have been warned. At some point we all have to walk our own paths.

This thread and others have covered those that are legitimately working to help these children and expose what terrible things that have happened.

  45. Tara Volesky 2014.08.31

Blogs don't work as well as public forums with the candidates and media there.

  46. Tara Volesky 2014.08.31

It's easier to attack people than to attack the issues. Yes, Roger you like the tribal Council format? I would rather talk to the people. Most Natives on the reservation are afraid of the council. Kind of like state government. Does Standing Rock still have their corruption fb page?

  47. Roger Cornelius 2014.08.31

Having a public forum on any issues is always a good idea, however Tara is attempting to make the misery of Indian children a completely political football to benefit Haber.

Shirley Schwab and Chase Iron Eyes have no obligation to step in the arena at this time. their work has been consistent and persistent, after Haber's potentially historic and epic loss to Jackley, will Chad and Stranahan continue to show their outrage about what is happening to Indian children? I doubt it. Chase and Shirley will continue their good work and with the help of the ACLU and U.S. Attorney's office will make meaningful contributions.
Lynn is right, Haber's candidacy is pretty much an irrelevant sideshow that is nothing more than amusing, The problem is that he is using Indian children as a part of circus act.

  48. mike fro iowa 2014.08.31

Like inviting a civet cat to help one enjoy the smells of a Spring meadow.

  49. Roger Cornelius 2014.08.31

Tribal governments like American and state governments are not perfect, they can all be terribly dysfunctional. With utmost respect for tribal government, I refuse to attack and criticize a tribe that I not a member. I may disagree with them on any number of issues, but that criticism will not be public.
Tara, there you go again with talk about getting credit, if you truly believe that, drop it or admit that you want someone to get credit.
Again, if you want a town hall meeting, debate, or other such public forum, organize it, that is what you want.

  50. Tara Volesky 2014.08.31

I would be very disappointed if they don't step forward. Now's the time to exploit this because the media won't do anything unless there are candidates involved. OMG Roger, I will try anything even if it means supporting Chad Haber. If any of these candidates can expose SD's dirty little secret, I really don't care if affects Mikes campaign. Children are more valuable than a stupid race.

  51. Tara Volesky 2014.08.31

Yes Roger that is what needs to be done. This isn't about who get's the credit. I would give full credit to the Democrat party. They are a party organization that has access to the press. I am hoping they step forward, after all they are for the little guy.

  52. Lynn 2014.08.31

Tara are you a campaign manager for Chad Haber also? Are you working on his campaign in any capacity?

  53. Why????
Why is the three major news stations burying what happened to my 17 year old sons death while in state custody......
Is it because Big Government in Pierre doesn't want the public to know what happened to my beloved son??? You have to ask yourself then why?
Are they guilty of something and that's why they will not sit down and talk to me about this wonderful boy who lost his life due to the neglect of the state. When we all know if this happened while he was in my custody I would be in jail and my other children would be taken from me. You have to ask your self then why do they run and hide from me. Are they guilty of something??? Do they have something to hide???? Why can't they tell the truth it's as simple as that!!!

  54. Tara Volesky 2014.08.31

Pretty sad, people would rather hide behind a blog or letter to the editor than publically speak out. That's why nothing will change. It's all about money.

  55. Doug Boes 2014.08.31

All. I will say is that yes cory has recieved some documents , not the file but enough . You all sit on your butts typing innuendos without talking about the fact that the children are being tortured in south dakota not because they are native but because they are a commodity worth tons of federal dollars to either the state or the tribes . Take away the federal money and the fight between these two intities would be "you take them - no you".......... Lakota law project and Aclu lawyer danna hanna helped take the ANGELS away from their TIOSPEYE and allow them to have to sleep on floors of homeless shelters. Wow every native should thank them for their hard work. ....they must really be fighting for the children! !! Lol

  56. Roger Cornelius 2014.08.31

    Dawn,
Thank you for commenting on this thread. Please accept my condolences and sympathy for the loss of your son. Your story is compelling and tragic and needs to be told as often as possible, I hope you keep up your efforts even after the election. Elections are only a sideshow compared to your deep and personal loss.
Please know that you have more support than you may think and that there are many in the state that have been asking the same questions you pose.
I'm certain Cory has posted on the death of your son, perhaps someone more in the know can find those thread and repost.
I have previously posted that I would vote for Jackley over Haber, I will now have to withdraw that statement and state I will choose none of the above.
From what I have discovered of the Bosworth/Haber campaigns and backgrounds, I fear that Chad Haber is using your son's tragic death as a campaign tool to jump into the attorney general's office.

  57. Roger Cornelius 2014.08.31

    Tara,

I looked but could not find any relevant information on Haber's website about the injustices children suffer.

Could you post his public policy position and action he would take to end these abuses.

This seems to be a hallmark of the Haber campaign and deserves more than ridiculous memes.

  58. Roger,
I looked but I could not find ANY information about the murder of my son on this blog. Why????

  59. tara volesky 2014.08.31

I will help whoever I can to get this out. If the Democrats were smart they would get 100% behind Chad Haber but they are whimps, and the Republicans are Bullies, and I just got my phone call to Chad Haber tapped. This blog enables the bullies to control, intimidate and threaten people who push up against the machine. Roger, Lynn and Cory, you are part of the problem. Oh by the way Dawn is having a meet and greet for the Thug Chad in Brookings on Wed. Chad also has not asked for one dime after what happened to his wife. MJ, DD, and MR are bought and paid for by crooks disguised as citizens united. Wake up Sheople.

Tara "I just got my phone call to Chad Haber tapped" What? Are you saying your phone conversations are bugged?

Tara are you working in any capacity for the Chad Haber campaign?

  61. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.08.31

Tara, I take deep personal offense to the false suggestion that standing up to a bully like Chad Haber makes me a wimp. I also laugh at your baseless assertion that your phone calls are tapped and the equally baseless assertion that Haber "has not asked for one dime". Please elaborate: on what authority do you make this statement? Are you in regular communication with Haber? Are you working for his campaign? And are you saying that Haber plans not to raise any money for his AG campaign?

  62. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.08.31

Roger, a "Democrats for Jackley" Facebook page would overstate my position. I am not for Jackley. Democrats should not be for Jackley. They should be against Haber's exploitation and mockery of the electoral system.

  63. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.08.31

Now we are way far afield, switching from the true allies of our Indian citizens in their fight against South Dakota's violations of ICWA in child removal/placement hearings to a discussion of possible abuses in our juvenile corrections system. It's time for a new thread on the topic of Brady Folkens's death. Please hold comments on that topic for a few minutes while I prepare a separate post where we can carry on that discussion.

  64. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.08.31

Tara, how does one avoid speaking up publicly by hiding behind a blog? I have been speaking up publicly with this blog for nine years. Blogging and speaking up publicly are the same thing. Pause before you type.

  65. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.08.31

Post on Folkens's death is now up. Please direct all comments on that topic to that post. Use this post to further discuss Chase Iron Eyes's dismissal of Haber as an ally of Indians.

And Tara, would you like to call Chase Iron Eyes a wimp, too?

  66. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.08.31

(And Roger, the commenter is correct: I have not previously written about the death of Brady Folkens, for lack of any substantive information to add. I invite commenters to add relevant factual information on the topic on the new post, not here.)

  67. tara volesky 2014.08.31

Cory, I messaged him and he did not respond. Haber is very close friends with his I think cousin or niece. She told Chad when he meets you, he will trust you. I hope Chase isn't a Wimp. I hope is motives are right. There is no money funneled into the Myers campaign because he is not for sale and neither am I.

  68. tara volesky 2014.08.31

Well there you go Cory. Dawn will provide you with all the information you need. All it takes is a telephone call.

  69. tara volesky 2014.08.31

Cory blogging and speaking up publically are not the same thing. How many people read blogs and how many people watch KELO and read daily newspapers?

  70. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.08.31

Same thing, perhaps more so: my blog posts are now part of the public record, as much as any news clip. And to make matters worse for me, they are fully my own words. I can't claim some reporter took my words out of context.

But Chad isn't doing anything more than I am about ICWA violations. I'm blogging; he's paying a spokesman to blog. Neither of us is doing as much as the ACLU and DOJ to really defend our Indian neighbors from state corruption. And while I'm blogging to get the truth out and really root out corruption, Haber is blogging to manipulate emotional stories and exploit victims for his personal gain.

Chase Iron Eyes knows the difference, and that's why he deems Haber the moral equivalent of Jackley, which no one here has denied. We get noise about other cases, other issues, but the fact is Chad Haber didn't get interested in these issues until he decided he needed a campaign (fundraising) issue. It's pretty obvious what game Haber is playing and who is getting played. Chase Iron Eyes is not getting played. Tara, I'm afraid you are.

  71. Roger Cornelius 2014.08.31

Tara, how do know that your phone call to Haber was bugged or you just getting paranoid?
You failed to answer any of Cory's or Lynn's questions except with typical vagueness. You seem to know the intricacies of Chad's campaign finances by stating that he hasn't asked for one red cent. How does a campaign work successfully without donations?
I'll ask one more time, what is Chad's position on ICWA and the abuse children in this state, what will he do besides talk about corruption?
Has the Myers/Hubble Team developed a policy position on ICWA, DSS, and the responsibilities of state government dealing with children in the foster care system?

  72. Lynn 2014.08.31

Tara I'm sorry but you have lost me on a few things today.

" This blog enables the bullies to control, intimidate and threaten people who push up against the machine. Roger, Lynn and Cory, you are part of the problem"

You phone being bugged? Why would you feel that way and by whom?

I've asked about your involvement status with Chad Haber's campaign numerous times which you avoid answering since you seem to know a number of details about it and are constantly promoting him as a candidate for AG.

Please keep in mind that you are publicly the campaign manager for the Myers/Hubble ticket so are you Chad's manager also?

  73. tara volesky 2014.08.31

So can you tell me how much Chad Haber has raised? He hasn't asked for one dime after what they did to his wife. She goes to court on Thursday and will go to jail before she plea-bargains with Marty Jackley. She was Brady Folkens Dr. and stood up for Brady against the state. Go ahead and protect the establishment because that is what you are doing. WHIMPS!

  74. grudznick 2014.08.31

If Ron Volesky, a young gentleman who actually is an attorney as I understand it, were running, we wouldn't have this dilemma about people voting for a clean pated manipulator who is insaner than most, despite his young pretty wife, who's ego has an impressive thermal mass. Which has cooled significantly.

  75. JeniW 2014.08.31

Annette is not going to go to jail.

  76. larry kurtz 2014.08.31

Mr. Iron Eyes is aware of this post: maybe he'll leave a comment.

  77. tara volesky 2014.08.31

That would be great. Come on Chase, we don't bite.

  78. tara volesky 2014.08.31

JeniW, Bosworth will not plea bargain, and I commend her for that, so don't be surprised if she doesn't spend some time in the Lock Hotel.

  79. Tara Volesky 2014.09.01

There is a major lack of communication between the state and the tribes when it comes to foster care in SD. State officials need to accept responsibility and address these issues publically. NPR should not be the only media outlet that reports on foster care. It is the responsibility of the SD media to get these stories out and educate the citizens of SD.

  80. JeniW 2014.09.01

Tara, what needs to be done to get the media attention to situations like this one, and who will step up to the plate to get the media sources to do so?

If there is no one who are willing to be drivers, the vehicles are going to stay in the garage.

  81. Tara Volesky 2014.09.01

JeniW, I was begging some people other than the candidates to host a Gubernatorial/AG candidate forum open to the people and media to bust this wide open, but all I got was criticism. What are your thoughts on this JeniW.

  82. Roger Cornelius 2014.09.01

    Tara,

You are a campaign manager for Myers, if you want a debate or public forum to discuss the South Dakota foster care system, ORGANIZE ONE. That is your responsibility.

  83. JeniW 2014.09.01

Someone had to be the driver for the NPR to get the attention of people in New York.

How did the people who were at the state fair want medical marijuana get publicity?

How did the people in Sioux Falls who protest the death penalty get publicity?

How do organizers of fundraisers get publicity?

They get it by contacting the media sources to let them know of the when, what, where, why, and how of the event. Perhaps there are people who would be willing to stage a rally/protest on behalf of children.

Sometimes, when lawsuits are filed, the media picks up on it because they are connected to the public record resources. Has anyone filed a lawsuit in this situation? (Filing of a lawsuit may not lead to anything legally being done, but sometimes the media will pick up on the filed lawsuit.)

Instead of using a political debate, perhaps organize a rally/protest to expose the situation. Start simple, and be persistent. It is going to take more than a debate to capture people's attention. Plus it will take more than one event.

The first fundraiser for "Race for a Cure" started with a small group and each year since then it has grown. That is how the "Pink" campaign started, now the Pink campaign is well known, and used in a variety of ways.

The 2015 legislative session will start in a few months, this is the time to start contacting legislators to find out if any will sponsor a bill to make changes in the policy of how child abuse cases are handled.

Some years ago, I and a few others submitted a bill proposal to change the wording used in the state laws regarding how individuals with disabilities are described. The bill did not pass, but there was a resolution that was passed. Fast forward, a bill was finally passed to discontinue using the "R" word in the state laws and documents.

Get some like minded people to sit down and plan a strategy, and determine who is going to do what, even if it is just two or three people at the start.

It took 40 years for the SD government to get to the point where it is today, it is not going to change overnight and with one event.

  84. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.09.01

JeniW identifies two important parts of protest strategy that show why Haber will fail as an advocate for Indian families and anyone or anything else.

Contact the media, says JeniW, but Channette have subjected reporters to so many laughable non-spectacles that the media will hardly bother with more of Channette's campaign stunts.

Organize and plan, says JeniW, but Channette's inability to organize any grassroots campaigners and their infinitesimal attention span (a new website almost every week, almost invariably forgotten within another week) demonstrate that Channette cannot mount any effective political action. Look to the ACLU for that kind of serious media and legal strategy. Look to the DOJ to follow up on real violations of law. But don't look to Chad Haber: his attention is focused entirely on fantasies of concocting some magical meme potion that will make 1 in 100 Florida retirees hand him all of their money.
