Equality SD PAC Endorses Weiland, Page, Other Dems

The Equality South Dakota PAC has announced its candidate endorsements for 2014. Our three marquee Democrats—Rick Weiland, Corinna Robinson, and Susan Wismer—all get the nod, although they mention that Larry Pressler also backs legalizing same-sex marriage.

The Equality South Dakota PAC also gives official love to these Legislative candidates:

Our gal Robin gets special mention for taking on homo-xeno-trutho-phobic Phil Jensen:

Equality South Dakota urges you to support Robin. She has publicly spoken out against her opponent, incumbent State Sen Phil Jensen. Jensen introduced the controversial SB 128 this past session. SB 128 (which was rightfully killed) would have allowed businesses to legally discriminate against LBGT based upon the business owner’s religious beliefs. Robin Page voiced her support for LGBT equality at this year’s Black Hills Pride Festival and her platform strongly supports the LGBT community. She is directly campaigning against her opponent's support of SB128 (Page Running As Anti-Jensen, Rapid City Journal, Sept 29) [Equality South Dakota PAC, candidate endorsement, October 2014].

My only problem with EqSD-PAC's endorsements is that more candidates haven't earned them. Listen to the kids, kids: equality and civil rights for all citizens are the way all candidates should go. If you're not on EqSD's list of candidates fighting for justice, you should be.

Related: Steven C. Hildebrand reminds friends on Facebook that the lawsuit that could overturn South Dakota's same-sex-marriage ban gets a hearing on Friday:

Sioux Falls Area Friends - There will be a hearing in front of Federal Judge Karen Schreier as to the constitutionality of South Dakota's ban on same-sex marriages this Friday, Oct. 17 at 9 am Central time. The hearing is open to the public and will be held in the Federal Courthouse on Phillips Avenue in downtown Sioux Falls, Courtroom #2.

I would encourage any of you who are available to join us at the Courthouse on Friday. It would be a great way to show strong support for over-turning the ban [Steven C. Hildebrand, Facebook post, 2014.10.14].

Popcorn is not allowed in the courtroom, but curious and civic-minded citizens are!

"She has publicly spoken out against her opponent, incumbent State Sen Phil Jensen."

She has falsely spoken out against her opponent, incumbent State Sen Phil Jensen.

  2. Ellee Spawn 2014.10.15

I'm a little curious as to what their criteria was and more than a little disappointed that I wasn't endorsed.

  3. Roger Cornelius 2014.10.15

Me too Ellee, as you know I've followed your campaign from the outset and agree with almost all of your positions on statewide issues. Makes me wonder what it takes to get that endorsement from Equality SD.
And yes, congratulations to our gal Robin.

  4. Roger Cornelius 2014.10.15

You sound exactly like Mike Rounds, he too does not recognize a lie and distorts the truth.
Robin was right as rain about Jensen and the many Republicans that opposed Jensen's SB128 agreed with Robin.

  5. Lawrence Novotny 2014.10.15

The endorsement of legislative candidates was based upon personal knowledge of the candidates. In the past, endorsements were made based upon a survey filled out by candidates. Unfortunately, we were unable to do the survey this year. I realize that there probably are supportive candidates that were overlooked and I apologize for this. Lawrence Novotny, chair EqSD PAC

  6. Steve Sibson 2014.10.15

"Robin was right as rain about Jensen and the many Republicans that opposed Jensen's SB128 agreed with Robin."

No, it was a Neo-Marxist based pack of lies used to oppress the conservative worldview.

"Makes me wonder what it takes to get that endorsement from Equality SD."

Because they don't really care about "equality".

  7. Ellee Spawn 2014.10.15

Mr. Novotny, thank you so much for the clarification. I do apologize if my earlier post sounded like "sour grapes"... I was just quite surprised. If it's not too late, I'd certainly welcome the opportunity to discuss with you whether or not it might still be possible to earn your organization's endorsement. There's still plenty of time before the election and your endorsement would mean a lot to me.

So how much money will South Dakota Republicans waste in court to fight a losing battle?

  9. Bill Fleming 2014.10.15

Stevie, you started out so well this morning. Did your meds wear off? ;-)

  10. Roger Cornelius 2014.10.15

I was going to make the same observation about Sibson, earlier he coherent and well spoken. Time of day? Full moon? Meds? Something went wrong with him in a short period of time.
Steve continues to be too damn lazy to write his own blog and continues his dependence on Cory to get his neo-whatever out there.

  11. Bill Fleming 2014.10.15

Roger, I think Sibby really wants to be of service in the info community, and a lot of times he's right on top of key stuff before anybody else sees it.

He also knows what it means, which is a plus.

It's only when he goes off on his ideological rants that it gets tiresome, but I gotta tell ya, I'll take him over that crazed Angelo character any day. Angelo brings nothing to the party.

Sibby shows up with little precious gems on a fairly regular basis.

As much as he might not like to hear it, he's an integral part of the SD online hive mind. Maybe not in the way he intends sometimes, but he is, nonetheless.

  12. mike from iowa 2014.10.15

and mike rilly is my name, too still yet.

  13. Roger Cornelius 2014.10.15

Bill, I know. Cory once said he keeps Sibson around because of those precious gems that prove that at times Sibson can be lucid. I wish he would do it more often, the lucid part.

  14. Deb Geelsdottir 2014.10.16

I'm glad they've made endorsements, and I sure do support Robin Page. It's a black eye for SD to have such ignorant and hateful people as Jensen in the legislature.

  15. caheidelberger Post author | 2014.10.16

Indeed, Deb, Robin is to be praised for taking on Jensen. Her victory in District 33 will be cause for celebration on multiple levels. I look forward to hearing her compassionate voice in Pierre this winter.

  16. Scott 2014.10.18

Jensen is nothing more than a hateful bigot. He is against marriage equality because the bible says it's a sin, he needs to pick up the bible and read it and realize it says he must not be the judge and jury. God said he would judge each of us, he never said he needed your help doing it Phil! If you take a look at the bible it wasn't gay people who crucified Jesus, it was religious people. Jesus died for people sins, not just the self righteous, or religious but all people. Why can't we just love everyone, just look in the mirror and fix what you see there first!
