Stace Nelson Chooses Concrete, CASA, Confetti over Caucus

Stace Nelson delivers an enormous disappointment at caucus this weekend... by not showing up for caucus. Responding to Tom Lawrence's curiosity about Democrat Frank Kloucek's endorsement of Nelson and Bill Van Gerpen for House GOP leadership, Rep. Nelson says he's got more important things to do this weekend than hang out with the RINOs running his party:

Nelson said he will be unable to attend the caucus events this weekend, since he’s busy pouring concrete at his home, and has a CASA event and a wedding lined up for today.

“I wanted to make it and I hoped I could bend the time to do it, but I will not be able to do it,” he said [Tom Lawrence, "Kloucek Backs Van Gerpen and Nelson for GOP Leadership Posts," Mitchell Daily Republic, 2012.11.17].

I wonder what that concrete is for... a new bunker? A convention hall to host the Mugwump Party Nelson will establish to challenge the GOP for conservative supremacy? Or maybe it's the foundation of a new Capitol building for when Hanson County secedes from the Union?

Nah... probably just a nice walkway for Stace's lovely wife to get to the driveway mud-free. No excitement there... and no excitement at caucus. Sigh!

Gotta be real proud of that House leadership team......nominate a lawyer for Speaker who can't seem to understand the notary laws. RINOs just can't seem to stop stinking up the place.

Speaking of stinking up the place, Ed, have you had a Certs latley? Some Listerine maybe? I'm just sayin' buddy.

  3. Bree S. 2012.11.17

Yes maybe a disciplinary proceeding should be started against Mr. Gosch due to his failure to follow the law. Of course no one would ever dream of a politically motivated disciplinary proceeding against a lawyer they disagree with who has been elected to the legislature.

Bill, you're have such a way with words. Perhaps if you had any operational gray matter or a hint of class, you might qualify as decent. Until you acquire any of those attributes, you may not be my buddy.

  5. Bill Fleming 2012.11.17

Thank goodness for that, Ed. I will forthwith officially dispense with any feigned terms of endearment when addressing you. What a relief! LOL.

  6. grudznick 2012.11.17

Ed, you may be my buddy even after you overgodded on me and got Mr. Howie all twisted around a couple years ago. And I still remember that advice you gave me. I just don't trust it any more.

Good for Stace putting family first and contributing his time to CASA.

But do you think there is any chance we could get a video of Stace doing the "Chicken Dance?" Kidding Stace...dance like no one is watching and have fun with the family!

Yesterday I said this about "Insane McCain, today Im saying it about Howie, Ellis, Shad Olson, and you Ed.

As insignificant as a crumpled up post it note on the bottom of the outhouse floor. Not big enough for any real substantial use, to thick to roll a good joint, and so dirty you wouldn't put it in your mouth anyway.

Cant we all just please get along? Not.

At least I respect Stace. We might disagree a lot but I still respect him.

Stace for Governor! I think he could pull off an upset in June 2014 against Big Spendin' Dennis.

  10. Bree S. 2012.11.17

I don't know about Governor but I bet he could end up in statewide office if he wanted too. He's already got "Nelson" for a last name and ends up in the state papers nearly every day. The publicity is helping not hurting his image. The Establishment hopes he doesn't figure it out and develop an inclination to run for anything. I imagine he should stay in the legislature awhile longer anyway. I wish Chris Nelson would run for Governor. One of the few Establishment Republicans I like at the moment.

Young Mr. Nelson should run for a statewide office like Lands Commissioner or Treasurer Secretary in 2 years. That would get his name bigger and show that he could operate an important office before running for Governor in 2018.

I mean the younger Mr. Nelson, not the other young Mr. Nelson who already has statewide offices.

Good idea Grudz! I doubt he'd want to move to Pierre though.

  13. grudznick 2012.11.17

Mrs. S, they hear tell that most of the consitutional electeds don't move out to Pierre and don't even have to show up there much to do the job. Mr. Nelson could do most of it from his farm or in Mitchell and do just as good a job and the state would pay him to keep an apartment for when he had to go to the statehouse. I think he'd be a lock to get elected for some of those positions and could really make a name for himself outside of his district.

  14. oldguy 2012.11.17

I wouldn't say most but there are some like Jared Johnson who hardly come to Pierre. Dusty still lives in Mitchell.

  15. Bree S. 2012.11.17

Good thoughts Grudz. I think you're right. Stace might be "rough around the edges" but he has integrity and that matters more. I'd put my money where my mouth is if he ran for state office ;).

Let's hope Speaker Gosch understands parliamentary procedure better than he understands notary law.

  17. grudznick 2012.11.17

He has not yet been voted as speaker, Mr. H. But assuming he is, if you believe all this notary business is serious and legal and all that, then you might be able to get a court to say all the stuff Mr. Gosch signs is illegal as he was not a legally installed speaker.

This mess is on Gant's head and shoulders and has compressed his neck.

I see Peterson is caucus chair of the Democrats. Good for him. He's everything a Blue Dog should be in my opinion - pro-gun, pro-life, and fiscally sane. He's also an advocate for farmers and landowners with plenty of experience in the legislature. Wish more Republicans were like him.

  19. Dougal 2012.11.17

South Dakota needs a strong leader at the top. I don't agree with a lot of Stace Nelson's views, but I'm sick of the wafflers who've snuck their way into the Governor's office. Janklow was a Marine, and so is Stace Nelson. The spineless wimps up in the Governor's office now are a bunch of desk shufflin' pencil necks who have no principles and ability to lead. Their only purpose is to suck off the government teat to fill their pockets and reward their cronies with fat contracts and plum jobs.

South Dakotans can do better than the current crop of jellyfish in every office on the first and second floors of our State Capitol.

I'm a lifelong Democrat, but if Stace seriously runs for Governor in 2014, I'm sending him $500. Somebody's got to stir it up in Pierre.

  20. caheidelberger Post author | 2012.11.17

Oldguy: Ah ha! Stace must be pouring concrete for his summer Governor's Mansion in Fulton!

  21. grudznick 2012.11.17

Mr. Dougal, Mr. Nelson is most seriously going to run for Governor in 2014. Please send his $500 to me so I can receipt it into the account I am keeping for him. Get it to a straight lawyer in Harrisburg and he'll take care of the rest.

  22. Bree S. 2012.11.17

Yes Grudz is now chair of the campaign committee lol. Epicureans For Stace PAC.

  23. grudznick 2012.11.17

EFS PAC is a pay pal so you can send money to us that way too. Soon the EFS PAC tip jar will be all over the internet.

  24. caheidelberger Post author | 2012.11.17

Grudz is clearly full of crap. Send your Stace-2014 contributions to the Madville Times. I'll form a SuperPAC.

  25. grudznick 2012.11.17

The EFS PAC will launder a smidgen of its funds through you, Mr. H. You can skim some for your Spearfish School Board run in a couple years.

Auditor/Treasurer/LandsCommissioner/UtilityCommissioner Nelson will make sure you get invited to some of the big hunts and parties where they get those fancy waffles hand served to them.

  26. Dougal 2012.11.18

When I see Stace file his 2014 Governor campaign committee, announces his candidacy and shows he's the real deal (not this Mike Rounds pansie boy exploratory committee malarkey), I'm sending the check.

  27. grudznick 2012.11.18

Stace for Governor in 2018, Mr. Dougal. Stace for Auditor/Treasurer/LandsCommissioner/UtilityCommissioner in 2014. The EFS PAC promises to keep all funds we don't use in the 2014 election and use them only for the 2018 election, or turn them back to you.

If they make Agriculture Secretary an elected office again and Mr. Nelson wins that, all bets are off because I think we can all assume he will want to keep that position.

If Governor Daugaard appoints Mr. Nelson to Agriculture Secretary between now and 2014, all funds will be returned.
